            Chapters

            • 00:00 - 00:30: Introduction and Episode Overview This chapter serves as an introduction and episode overview for the series "Fuhan." The hosts clarify a pronunciation mix-up at the start between "Frank" and "flank." They announce that in this episode, they will visit the CBD area to experiment with something different: finding the cheapest food under $10, specifically for office-goers. They mention incorporating a fish soup element catered to office ladies, aligning the episode with themes of economical meals within the business district.
            • 00:30 - 03:00: Tanjong Pagar Plaza Food Review In this chapter titled 'Tanjong Pagar Plaza Food Review,' the hosts embark on a culinary exploration at Tanjong Pagar Plaza, focusing on Sunun-hing food delights. They take into account aspects others might overlook, such as the length of queues, which plays a significant role in the dining experience. The hosts are joined by two cast members, Raja and Ellie, implying a collaborative and more enriched review session. The review highlights the unique offerings of the place, mentioning special dishes like 'law me' and specific variations such as 'sh meat li,' all recommended by their audience.
            • 04:30 - 08:00: Amoy Street Food Center Challenge The chapter titled 'Amoy Street Food Center Challenge' revolves around a culinary experience at the Amoy Street Food Center in Singapore. It highlights the unique aspects of trying shark meat, which, while considered special, is not unusual in Singaporean cuisine. Among the various ingredients discussed are a hard boiled egg, a wantan (dumpling), meat, chili garlic, and meatballs. The transcript reflects on the mixed emotions of enjoying a dish priced at $5, which controversially includes an endangered animal, highlighting the ethical considerations alongside the gastronomic experience.
            • 09:00 - 19:30: Food Review at Amoy Street Food Centre The chapter titled "Food Review at Amoy Street Food Centre" centers around the narrator's experience with a dish that receives mixed reviews. The narrator points out a 'minus point' due to an ingredient referred to as the 'devil's vegetable.' They express that the dish lacks the sourness or vinegary taste they prefer, although other aspects are good. They are conflicted as they've had several similar dishes in the past and find this version's base a bit bland, dominated by strong garlic and chili flavors, and lacking the traditional elements expected in the gravy, leading to disappointment.
            • 23:00 - 31:00: Bollywood Biryani Review The chapter titled 'Bollywood Biryani Review' reflects on the complexity and enjoyment of a noodle dish called 'lomi'. The speaker shares a conflicted feeling towards the dish, describing it as both flavorful and a backdrop for other elements. Having experienced 'lomi' for the first time, the speaker describes it as eggy noodles with a rich sauce accompanied by crunchy ingredients, likening its consumption to an enjoyable experience for someone trying it for the first time, especially if they prefer a touch of chili.
            • 39:00 - 45:00: Final Thoughts and Roleplay In the final chapter 'Final Thoughts and Roleplay', the speakers reflect on their experience in the CBD and express their appreciation for the setup, suggesting that it is quite appealing given the context and pricing of $5. They compare it to what they would expect in London, noting that they would consider walking 10 minutes for such an experience once a week. The speakers discuss the taste of a dish, mentioning that although it doesn't taste distinctively like fish, there is an added sweetness to it that they find impressive. However, one of them seems unfamiliar with the rating system used.

TDK CBD Food Hunt Final Cut Transcription

            • 00:00 - 00:30 No, I want yall to order the Frank be. This okay Frank. It's not Frank, guys. It's flank. Okay, so welcome back to another episode of Fuhan. Today we're going to be doing something a bit different. We're going to the CBD area. We threw a fish soup in there for all the office ladies. The O. Every time people do Fuhan at CBD is what kind of food under $10. Cheapest food you can find in CBD, which we know is the hook. So that's exactly what we're going to do today. But the
            • 00:30 - 01:00 difference is that we are also going to figure out how long the ques are because I think that's a very important factor that a lot of people gloss over. Yeah. And today we are joined by two other cast members, Raja and Ellie. Hello. Oh, we got the budget episode. What? Oh my god. We are currently at Tanjong Paga Plaza and we are trying Sunun-hing food delights recommended by you guys for their law me. And what's special about it is we have the normal li but we also have sh meat li not shak sh meat. Have
            • 01:00 - 01:30 you tried sh meat before? No actually. Have you? Yes. From my understanding growing up right I've had shark meat li like several times. I mean it's special but normal in Singapore. This particular li there are a lot of ingredients. Half a hard boiled egg. You have a wantan. You have meat. You have chili garlic. You have meatballs. You have no nyong nongyang noyang nyang. [ __ ] $5 for all this and an endangered animal. Wow.
            • 01:30 - 02:00 Oh, my first minus point for this dish. Okay. Okay. This is the devil's vegetable. For me personally, I think it is not as sour or vinegary as I would like. Everything else is really good. I'm very conflicted about this dish. I've had several lawies in my life. You li and the base of this li is just a little bit bland for me. Yeah. So, I'm just getting very strong garlicky and chili flavors, but the law me is missing from the gravy. That kind of like disappointing for me, right? But, right, when I taste the individual
            • 02:00 - 02:30 ingredients that go into this, right, everything, right, is amazing. So, that's why I'm so conflicted because if I'm looking for a good li, I still want to be able to enjoy the lomi, but this particular dish, right, the noodles and sauce almost act like a backdrop. It's my first ever bowl of lomi texture- wise, tastewise, they're flavorful, they're bursting with flavor, because this is your first time tasting it, right? How would you describe the taste of law me to someone who has never tried it before? I would say it is a bowl of eggy noodles with a bugree sauce contrasted with crunchy ingredients. And if you're like me and you enjoy your cake chili, that was that was that's a
            • 02:30 - 03:00 that's a good way to set this up. I really really like it because of the context that we are in the CBD. I think based on that context alone, it's insane. Like $5 for this. Like if I was working in London Pa, if this is a 10-minute walk, I will walk at least once a week. I think the SH just tastes like normal. Yeah. Whatever fish. Yeah, there is no distinct fish. It's a me. Nope. Look, it's actually very nice though. It's not very fishy, but it has extra sweetness to it. I'm quite impressed with you guys know how the rating system work. No, how does it
            • 03:00 - 03:30 work? All right, drop explain. One star means that if you're in the area, maybe you want to give it a try. Two stars is that if you make a slight detour. Three stars means make it a destination. Ready? Three, two, one, zero, two, three. very strong. Why zero? The bulk of lomi is made up for me of the noodles and the sauce. And although the ingredients were nice, I think that the noodles and the sauce left a lot to be desired. So like if I were to get a good bowl of lomi, it wouldn't be from here. That's fair. It's my first ever
            • 03:30 - 04:00 bowl of lomi. I just want to say that I placed a less value on the noodle, but I like all the ingredients that went in. I thought they were crispy. I thought the contrast with like the gooness was great. Like the mouth feel was there. And the fact that it was fish, I don't actually enjoy eating fish. I thought they did really well here. Okay, so Raja is saying that apparently he found a store here that was featured on Netflix right next to me store. What exactly is this? Oh, it's a glutenous rice and there's a bit of pandan on top. I'm a purveyor of qual so I thought this feels a bit less sweet like the paste tastes a bit more granular. So my grandma loves
            • 04:00 - 04:30 this kind of stuff and I always have it at home and all the you know got the blue color one got the rainbow color one got all this thing right. I always have the burgan solo one that's like the baseline and I think that this one in comparison the textures and everything amazing flavor is amazing. Bungavan solo leans towards the sweeter side. This one leans toward a slightly more savory side that you can taste the rice more. Exactly. Yeah. Which is interesting if you prefer a more savory version. Okay. So, that's location one. Now, we're going to head over to the very crowded place where apparently there's going to be a challenge and a forfeit. We're heading to the heart of CBD. We're going
            • 04:30 - 05:00 to Amoy Street. Okay. Okay, so right now we're at Amoy Street Food Center and the challenge for today, what we are guessing is the time taken for us to find a seat, order the food and when the food gets to the table, that's where the time ends. So the two people that are furthest away from the score and the correct timing will be the losers. Okay. Okay. Okay.
            • 05:00 - 05:30 Okay, let's go. Let's go. Fine. I see the Okay, so it's stupid crowded like literally you cannot even walk properly. We'll see whether we can find a place for at least four I think. At least four. There are a lot of two-seater tables. Raja suggested to divide and conquer. But I need to know where the store is. But that probably means that he gets a very short time. So he's rushing to Are you rushing to buy? I
            • 05:30 - 06:00 guess 2 hours. I'm chill. I'm chill. So with the timer with our guesses on the timing, the loop that guy gave us right when then blasted past him right was immense. I've never seen a look of hatred like that. That is so okay. You order anything? No. I want you to order the Frank be. Okay. Frank. It's not Frank. It's flank. Okay. So flank be flank rice.
            • 06:00 - 06:30 Where the beef is very honest with you. Moving on. So, like the others, I am very good navigational skills and I've already located myself. Guys, the store not went here. I needed to order the chicken renang and uh I just found out that it's sold out. Frank rice makes it back first, baby. There were two girls that just finished ordering and they literally just said,
            • 06:30 - 07:00 "Oh my god, he's so fierce and scary. I miss these kind of places. So, I'm really excited because if your face is scary, right, it means that the food has to be freaking amazing. I think I got the worst queue of everyone, but this store apparently is the most popular store. And then we're standing here. I don't know where the queue is, right? That's where the store is. All right, we're now here live on the ground checking in on Raja and his current mood because he seems to be taking the longest. The worst part of
            • 07:00 - 07:30 this is that I was forced to kill for the one place I don't give a about. One eternity later. Keep the timing go. I haven't put it on yet. I'll take my time. Too bad. Waste some more. There we go. All right. Okay. Our producer is just tabulating up the results and the scores. You take my times two. I still haven't ordered my food yet. Okay, everybody. So, the total time taken, the final timing for the the last dish to touch this table, drum roll
            • 07:30 - 08:00 please, is 32 minutes and 16 seconds. Holy [ __ ] That is the winner was 11 seconds away from this final number. Okay, with a guess of 32 minutes and 5 seconds away. Alistister, congratulations. That's actually wild. 32 and 12 minutes. That's a spot on CBD KR dog behavior. The person that's further with a guess of 14 minutes. If I
            • 08:00 - 08:30 had a mini store, I will be Israel. It wasn't Hank Key, the very popular shop. We would have hit the timing. So now is between Dan and myself. Oh, who is joining? And this is crazy because right, our scores were 1 second apart. Your guesses were 1 second of 1 second apart. You never You never copy me. One bra. There's one bra bouncing back and forth. So then he guessed 40 minutes and 25 seconds. 40 minutes and 25 seconds.
            • 08:30 - 09:00 And my guess was 40 minutes with your book and 26. I didn't know you were guessing seconds in this game. You have a clue. Give a hint. Help me out. As in they guess 14 something. Who? Who? Then guess 14 something. Okay. Thinking it's going to be so stupid long, right? That I just need to be the longer than the longest by a bit. Then I will win.
            • 09:00 - 09:30 Each other. I want this. I want this one. Not so spicy. Choose. Not so spicy. See this one? Straight up. Oh my. Okay. This how you can see the food. By the way, this is like a crotch cam for me. This is so dumb, man. How am I supposed to eat like this? I got to throw up very soon. Okay, so introducing the places that we'll be trying today. The first one is Craft B. They offer a flank rice for $8. Get a very healthy portion of
            • 09:30 - 10:00 steak. Looks very well done. Sui adamame. You have potatoes on the side, some rice, the special sauce, kimchi, and then a soup which nobody has tried. Yes, I'm looking at the dish. The spoon, right? Okay. Look. We that's a skip. Here we go. Got a nice eggy. Okay. Lord have mercy on me on this one.
            • 10:00 - 10:30 Your mind adjusts very quickly to it. Right. Sure. His mouth is I'm not sure it's because we ate it too many minutes late, but the beef is kind of tough right now. The flavor is there. It's a very pleasant, very mellow flavor. I think for me the the brown sauce has a very nostalgic like quality. Like it reminds me of steak dinners that I used to have with my family when I was like very very young. I don't mind it. It's just maybe not my first choice when it comes to ammo food. For a healthy rice bowl, I think this is rich. Like if
            • 10:30 - 11:00 we if we had eaten it immediately, right, I think it would have been a fantastic bowl. If I compare this to the Vivo that we had at SA, I think I prefer this one. Oh yeah. Yeah. So comparing to the Sink one, this is what you expect from that. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Secondly, we have the spicy wife nasi luma. It was the longest due we saw when we got here. It's 4.7 on Google with 237 reviews. Very excited to try it. We have the aromatic chicken and I'm going to try. Can Can I help you? Cuz I feel like you're missing. No help. No help. This is inclusive society. We let people
            • 11:00 - 11:30 stumble their way through. You're so close to a very nice piece of meat that you just miss. Well, I'm going to throw up. Not because of the food. No, lowkey the vertigo is real. I feel like I'm playing a game. Excited person. I think that was one of the best fried chickens on a I ever had in my life. And there's a very specific clove or like spice you can get added to the skin that is sensational. I think everyone can taste even after 20 minutes of sitting
            • 11:30 - 12:00 here, right? The crisp like it's still there, you know. Not to mention the coconut rice as well. This gorgeous coconut rice there. So again, like I mentioned, I compare all NASA to village truck cuz that's the best I've ever had and this comes extremely close. Everyone's looking at the chicken and I think you're absolutely right. The thing that really really spoke out to me was how juicy it was. I don't know whether it was the piece or like the area I got while the skin was still crunchy and flavorful. And let's not gloss over the sambar. I thought that sambar was fire. It was a good cake and you know some a lot of places they do spicy for spicy. This place got flavor in the spice. I
            • 12:00 - 12:30 don't think there is a better nasala chicken in Singapore than this. I think this is the best best chicken I've ever had. The size of the chicken, there's so much meat, right? It's so tender. It's so moist still. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the chili. I think it's a tad bit spicy for me. Everything is so good that even if I didn't have the chili, right, no problem. And I want to say that the queue was long, right? Even the timing wise, right? But right, the queue moves fast. And I think it's this is really, really worth the queue. The last dish which has the longest queue is an fish
            • 12:30 - 13:00 soup. Okay, this one right on our community right everybody was saying you have to try this. Okay, and obviously because we are doing a CBD full hunt, fish soup is a must, right? Apparently the aunties at this store are known for their very good memory. So they take your orders in advance and then they able to remember it all the way. Is that true? Yes, that's true. The auntie actually took my order about 20 minutes before it was served to me. She went down the row. She asked what everyone wanted. She grabbed the money out of their hand. She kept moving it. Oh, this difficult 10 times send like
            • 13:00 - 13:30 noodles actually edit fast. But no, it'll be like unedited. He didn't even have any fish. Got a get a thick slice. I think this right. Wait, you haven't been eating the fish. This guy. Sorry, I kind of a bit don't care about the nas. Oh, really? Okay, that's a bold statement to make. Get that soup, get that fish, man. Okay, I don't care what everybody
            • 13:30 - 14:00 else has to say. 30 minutes to cure for this, right? I think it's totally worth it because, right, this is not extravagant. This is not over the top. But every single component of this, right, to me is done to perfection. The fish is not fishy. The tenderness, the texture, there's no waxiness, there's no chewiness, there's no weird awkward gummy bite to it. Yet, it doesn't fall apart too much like it's overcooked. Then, right, seasoned perfectly. You don't even need extra soy sauce. The noodles, this has been sitting here for a while already. Noodles, fantastic dness. It's not like it's soaking up too much of the soup and all that kind of
            • 14:00 - 14:30 [ __ ] right? And the soup itself, there's like almost like some kind of clarity to it. I don't know how to describe. I've never enjoyed a like a proper clear sliced fish noodle soup before, but I think this is really the best variation of this dish that you can find. Yeah, I'm going to be a bit of a downer. My take on this is that if I work nearby, it might be worth it if it was maximum 15 minutes queue. I think if it's a half an hour queue, I feel like because of how simple it is, and I don't think that's a of the dish, it's just what I'm willing to wait for. It's just that I think the soup left me wanting
            • 14:30 - 15:00 more. It was missing a bit of depth. I want to say the soup is more like bland. It's more mellow, but the fish flavoring, it's great. It really really contrasts well with the soup. Really, the fish kind of a stand out. Like, you don't really expect this in coffee shop as an avid nonfish enjoyer. But I can see how right rubric wise, right, if I grade everything here on a rubric, right, I can see the value in the fish, I can see why it's not like a fishy smell, not a fishy taste, a very like the texture is there. Having said that, right, it's a very simple bowl and there's no way in hell I'm cooking more than 10 minutes. And based on our new
            • 15:00 - 15:30 metric of tal like even if you don't separate the soup and noodles, right, it still works. And I think now I can understand why all of this lady will order fish soup because right when done well and right like this one when you eat right you will feel full but it doesn't make you feel like the greasiness you like lethargic but this one will make me feel a little bit of that after you know. Yeah. Which is why I'll go to this cuz I'm not going to continue working. Okay. So let's go back craft B. You have your scores. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Three 2
            • 15:30 - 16:00 1. Let's rate the spicy wives. 3 2 1 and it's a three across the board. Can I take a step forward and say the chicken is a four? Everything else may be a two or but the chicken is a four. Remind you on the new graph that we created, right? Four is rent a car to come here. Five, right, is buy a HDB five. It's a com soup. The most recommended dish from our community. Okay, ready? Three, two,
            • 16:00 - 16:30 one. Here's my other hot take is that I think around this country, you can probably find similar quality level of both. Exactly. Some of you blind taste test, I wouldn't point. I don't think I'll be able to point this. When it comes to all of fish soup, the variance doesn't differ too much. But when it comes to like say, right, it's like the skill ceiling of fish soup is not that high, guys. Not only are we going to hunt here for drinks and food, but we're going to try and find something else. Then, are you thinking what I'm thinking? I am thinking what you are thinking.
            • 16:30 - 17:00 Clemens posing. Okay. Okay. So, what's actually going on is the location that we wanted to try. The person that recommended it never really reply us. So, instead, right, we thought that since it's Ellie and Raja's first time on this show, we need to test their credibility a little bit, right? Whether are they are they good with food or not? So, for the last location, they are going to recommend something and we're going to go and try it and we will be the judge of whether you all know how to recommend food. So, we are at Adeli. This is my my pick and it's Makan Bollywood biryani place. So this place actually used to be at something that we
            • 17:00 - 17:30 also saw. So like we're trying to keep this under $10 and so both of these are but we also saw something on the menu that's actually $24. Advance order only. Lamb shank biryani. So unfortunately we won't try for this one but I'm very curious to see what Yeah. Don't forget when you have biryani you need to have ice. This is a must. So uh I'm guessing that's the mutton and this is the hey then we to see and watch them. Never mind. We have a bowl with a curry with a
            • 17:30 - 18:00 I don't know how else to describe it except it's such a lovely bowl. It really just feels like comfort food. I feel we came a bit late for it to be like fresh out of the the pot. I also feel right that this the dra increases it of it rating by one for me. Like this just transforms the whole dish. I think I've tried like at least five to eight different like very popular biryani spot in little India alone and I think that this one sad to say cannot compare to those. Okay. Yeah. They they come in
            • 18:00 - 18:30 this like metal bowls, right? And then wow. And it's like piping hot and fresh every single time. For this particular place, the mutton stood out for me a lot. Like it's super soft, very flavorful, but not too gy and it's able to complement everything else very well. Like a lot of times sometimes you have the curry but you don't need it. I think for this one you actually need it when you put it all together. Very nice combination. But individually, nothing really stands out. I like my biryani wet and so that's why the the curry makes a lot of sense. I would say the meat is a bit on the dry side. Especially for the chicken, the the mutton not so much. I think it's still good. The chicken's a little bit, but it's by no means bad. I
            • 18:30 - 19:00 won't call myself biryani enjoyer. I don't like the spices, specifically star anise. So sometimes when the rice is too packed with the This is good. This feels flavorful. The rice doesn't feel too overpowering. That's why I do enjoy this. Let's rate. Three, two, one. 20. So it's a zero on the chicken. I would not have I would leave the building to eat another shop. But it's a two on the mutton. If I was in a building for sure, I think I'll definitely bring friends, family to eat here. And can I just say also that one
            • 19:00 - 19:30 thing that really impressed me when Raja went to order the food right before he come back the food come is when we walked in here, the uncle already like waved us in. Very friendly. Yeah. Very welcome here. Yeah. I know there is pressure when it comes to recommending things cuz I also personally recommend before then like not nice, right? I think it's not fair to judge based off one dish. We have to do a few other dishes over the course of this series. Then we will see whether you are a culinary. There's something that I have mentioned recently, right, that a lot of people don't know about that I want to talk about and go and feature is
            • 19:30 - 20:00 kotu praa. You know, apparently a lot of Singaporeans don't know what that is. Oh, is it? So kotu praa. It's like a combination of like they take patta as the base carb, right? And then they kind of like dice it up and then stir fry it with a bunch of other ingredients and it becomes a dish of its own. What do you all think is like a potential solution for this? And also
            • 20:30 - 21:00 producer says here talents must roleplay how they would reject their colleagues if they don't have lunch with them. Hey guys, let's all go for lunch. There's this cafe poached eggs and [ __ ] Oh my god. It's only $20. It's okay. Okay, let's go. So cheap. Oh, yeah. Oh my god. Let's go. There's actually a $200 like beside the cafe, though. • 21:30 - 22:00 week for you to maybe just spend a little bit more than you would normally do just so that you can still blend in with your colleagues. But what what if right it's that cafe lunch that you're going to spend $30 $40 on and it's just really something that you don't want to do like once a week or whatever. Let's say in a week right then I I say hey then let's go lunch. We're going to go to the cafe here. I would have a heavy breakfast and join them for coffee. I have a trick for this and I used it when I was with a group of I won't say anything more than that but I used it before. You know who you are when this happened and they went to this extremely overpriced I think Japanese place. It wasn't that good first of all but it was
            • 22:00 - 22:30 pricey and I've had it before so I knew. So they insisted to go again right the dilemma. Do I want to stay part of the social group? I do. I value that. You know, it's an investment. They have a good working environment. So, I just say yes. And I go there, right? And then I became a [ __ ] and I was like, "Oh, this actually really bad." You know, you don't like this is to me low quality. I don't like it. Yeah. I only like sashimi that is like good. This one is not good. So, it's a poor job. Yes. I became a [ __ ] I out [ __ ] them that they felt like they were having substandard food and then they felt embarrassed to stay at the base ever again. Like we would still go for lunch together, but we will never end up at the base ever again cuz I was just like, "Yo, pay so much for
            • 22:30 - 23:00 this. This is not nice. You know, sashimi tast so so like old, you know, and like it was so sad to say that actually was okay. Why they overpriced? I whack like that. The fact that you guys are having sashimi at a work, I know, right? Step, right? They didn't know even anything about you. You were the last person. Correct. But they didn't. So sometimes, right, people not knowing stuff about you, right, is a weapon. Use it wisely. And then just be a [ __ ] Honestly, think you can find your own strike. There's got to be people in the office who hate this kind of [ __ ] as well. Spot the signs. If you know somebody who's been avoiding you
            • 23:00 - 23:30 guys for lunch, right, spot the sign. Be more inclusive. Think about that a little bit. It's not that they poor or anything. It's just some people don't see the value in spending $28 on X. I can make it home for seven, eight. Let's say I'm the person struggling with this. Right. First of all, check whether those are the people you want to hang out with, right? But the second component is that if that seems to be an issue to me, I would say that buy or bring your own food. And the social component is a separate thing that you should be addressing. Like you don't have to be eating the same thing in order to be bonding. Which is why like it's so important I think for a lot of companies

Which is why I quite like our very long dying table because literally one person can buy $28 piece of food. I can order a $5 chai fun and we can all come together. Let's all be more mindful of our colleagues. Not everybody's willing to spend
