Advances in artificial intelligence have made it easier and faster to create convincing fake pornography, posing a challenge for policymakers. Eight Canadian provinces have enacted laws to address non-consensual intimate images, but only half of them refer to altered images. British Columbia recently joined the list, allowing people to seek resolution and damages for both real and fake intimate images. The issue of deepfakes and altered images is a growing concern, with calls for comprehensive legislation to combat the problem.
