Everything You Can Do With Voice Memos | More Powerful Than You Think Transcription
00:00 - 00:30 so when you get a new iPhone or a new iPad Apple usually pre-installs all of their native applications and some of those yes are the camera app in the photos app and the phone app but a lot of them are actually things like GarageBand and iMovie and the I work Suite reminders and a lot of other applications that usually go unused so most people just tuck them away in a folder throw it in their app library or completely delete them to make room for other applications but there's one apple native app that I think goes under the radar is very underrated and goes relatively unnoticed and it's something that I use on a daily basis and that has
00:30 - 01:00 to be the voice memo app and on the surface yes you just turn it on record your voice as maybe set a reminder to maybe remember something in the future but this voice memo app is actually extremely powerful and some of the features kind of compete with those other third-party ones that are meant to be more than just a voice memos application so in this video I want to highlight some of its key features and walk you guys through exactly what you can do on this Voice Memos app because I think you're going to be relatively surprised so without further Ado let's talk about Apple's voice memo app and walk you through everything that they
01:00 - 01:30 can do let's get into it okay everyone let's get right into this video and as you see I got The Voice Memos app right here and we're going to start relatively simple so the first thing I'm going to make sure you do is that when you open up the app for the first time it's going to ask you if you want to share your location I'm going to recommend that you do and the reason I recommend that you do is because if you forget to actually name your voice recording and your location isn't shared it's going to show up as recording and then a number next to it versus if you actually share your location and then
01:30 - 02:00 you don't name your actual voice memo then it's actually going to name it based on the location that you're at with numbers attached to it so here these are actually names of locations this one is a renamed one but you can see these are all names of locations and things like that until after you end up actually renaming it so just a little tidbit right there so if I started recording let it do its thing you can see that immediately it's going to name it after a certain address that's on here I'm going to block it out for that purpose but you can actually see exactly what's going on down to the actual unit of where I am which is kind of cool to see and then to get into actually how to
02:00 - 02:30 rename it so let's say I am talking I am actually recording something if I actually swipe up you get a much better View you of what you're actually dealing with so if you want to rename it it's very easy to rename you just tap up here name it to whatever you want press enter you can pause it right here to make sure it's done and then if you swipe down you can see that it's named right then and there press done and now you have that voice recording and then to continue on if you do again start a recording swipe up like I mentioned earlier this is the view that you're going to want to be in in order to see what exactly is going on from a voice memo standpoint and how
02:30 - 03:00 loud you are how soft it is how often you're talking so you can make your cuts and then you can actually just pause it right here if you do want to pause it which is great to see and then also if you need to resume it you can just resume it right then and there to start talking again and you can see that it breaks it up into two sections so if I pause it again and then resume you can see that it's broken up once more to make sure you know like hey you pause it in this instance but you're recording again so now that we're aware of how to actually do a recording now let's talk about actually editing this recording so the first thing I'm going to show you is if you are live recording you're going to swipe up again make sure that you're
03:00 - 03:30 talking and then you pause it you actually get this little button right here in the top right hand corner that shows up and and that is your trim button so if you tap on that you can actually trim the actual voice recording so let's say I want to cut out this whole front piece so I grab this I move it over go right there I press trim and then you can see that it does shorten the actual voice memo completely and you press save and then you're good to go now you have your actual voice recording and then you can still resume after the fact but let's say you have an older voice recording so you click on here click on your three dots and you get a
03:30 - 04:00 bunch of options here and what you're going to want to do is actually edit your recording and that is where you're actually able to then see exactly what's going on so you press the trim button again let's say I want to cut out all this dead space I'm going to cut it from here because I'm going to show a different feature off with the rest of it so we'll go here we'll press trim we'll save it and then you're good to go swipe down and then you press done and you're all set and also one other tidbit because this is part of the Apple ecosystem all these voice recordings are going to show up on all of your idevices that are signed into the same iCloud so this will show up on your iPhone this
04:00 - 04:30 will show up on your iPad if you have a secondary iPhone it'll show up there which is great to have especially if you're in pickle maybe you forgot where you recorded it what it's being recorded it's all great to see the next thing I want to quickly show off is the ability to actually replace certain portions of the recording which I think is a great little feature so if I go into the three dots then click edit recording you can actually see that this is now a replace button so if I scroll along here and let's say I want to replace maybe the very end of it to let myself know like hey this is a recording that I want to do something with I go here I press replace and now it's going to start to
04:30 - 05:00 go over that last recording with what I'm currently saying it's going to continue to keep going until I pause it press done and then you're good to go so now that portion is now being saved it's being uploaded make sure that those changes are set and then you're all set with the new replacement of that actual recording so as next feature is what really sets The Voice Memos app apart from pretty much any other Voice Memos app or the fact that they can do this built in natively is kind of nice so go into one of your voice recordings click on the three dots go to edit recording and then you're going to see this little
05:00 - 05:30 toggle over here this is kind of like filter button we're going to click on that and then you're going to see a couple options so first you can change the speed of your actual recording so if I move this over if I want to make it extremely fast and then I press play it's going to roll through extremely quickly so if I go back I can actually go back to the normal pace which is good to see but then I can also skip silences which is great so if I go here you can see that this voice recording has a few silences that I put in here on purpose to let you guys to show you exactly what it's like if I press play It's Gonna
05:30 - 06:00 automatically skip that silence as much as it can which is great because again it's going to save you a ton of time and then also you have the option to enhance recording so if you have a little bit of background noise if you sound a little bit muffled or if there's something going on that again gets in the way of the actual recording this should actually help out a ton so enhancing that recording will help you if you are editing these voice memos and you just want to have a simple voice memo editor that can get the job done for the most part and I've used again the voice memo for multiple different occasions I use it for voice overs I record a podcast
06:00 - 06:30 segment on here again if you have the correct microphone or even using the onboard microphone if you hold it close enough to your mouth and there isn't a lot of noise in the background you can also completely get the job done and then the last little tidbit that I will mention is that the voice recording app acts like any other app so if I go on here I delete it you actually recover that deleted file by going back go to recently deleted and then recover those files which is great to see and then also it'll save your watch recordings on here so if you have your voice memo app on your Apple watch and you record using your Apple watch because let's say you want to remember to get you know bananas at the grocery
06:30 - 07:00 store and this is how you do it then by all means that is what you get to go with with the watch recording so That Just About Does It For The Voice Memos app as you saw you can do a lot more with The Voice Memos app than just record your voice maybe for a reminder or maybe you're in a lecture hall and you're actually putting it there to maybe hear your teachers and then run it back later on but this thing works extremely well you know you have your cut and paste features you're able to enhance your voice you're able to go back to one and then go invoice over a different voice that you want to actually go over so there's a bunch of different features that the voice memo app just goes again relatively unnoticed
07:00 - 07:30 and not a lot of people use it I personally use it for all of my voice overs I plug in this microphone via lightning cable to my iPhone and then I just start doing voiceovers when it whenever I need to and I edit those voiceovers directly in The Voice Memos app so when I import it into my video editor the voiceover is just already edited and ready to go for me but that is going to do it everybody if you did make it to the end leave a little dolphin in the comments down below and leave a comment down below if you knew that this voice memo app actually could do everything that I mentioned and leave a comment down below some other iPhone apps or native applications that Apple
07:30 - 08:00 creates that goes relatively unused and under the radar because not a lot of people talk about those like second and third tier Apple native apps like the utility folder GarageBand iMovie and things like that but that's gonna do it everybody if you want to watch more Mac OS iOS or iPad OS videos click on one of these right here and until next time I'm Fernando and I'm out of here peace [Music]
