Chapters
00:00 - 01:00: Introduction to Elite Dangerous for Beginners The chapter is an introductory guide to 'Elite Dangerous' aimed at beginners. Commander Atlas Rand, the narrator, emphasizes that this video is the preliminary step for newcomers before watching any other content. The motivation for creating this content arose from encountering new players and streamers who have recently started their journey in the game.
01:00 - 02:30: Understanding the Game's Learning Curve The chapter 'Understanding the Game's Learning Curve' discusses the challenges that players face when learning a particular game. The speaker empathizes with players, noting the visible frustration they experience as they make numerous mistakes compared to their successes. This game is characterized by a prolonged learning curve, and even players with two years of experience continue to discover new aspects. However, the chapter clarifies that despite the ongoing learning process, the game's learning curve is not the steepest compared to other games.
02:30 - 04:30: Starting Your Journey in Elite Dangerous The chapter discusses the complexities of starting a journey in the game 'Elite Dangerous'. It compares 'Elite Dangerous' to 'Eve Online', suggesting that while both games are massive in scale, 'Eve Online' has a much steeper learning curve. The speaker seems to confuse the two games momentarily, emphasizing the need to focus on 'Elite Dangerous'.
04:30 - 06:00: The Elite Dangerous Fandom Wiki This chapter introduces players to the basics of Elite Dangerous, starting from the initial game installation. It covers the tutorial mission where players begin on foot, engage in combat using laser guns, and eventually progress to acquiring a ship for flight training.
06:00 - 08:00: Career Paths and Their Benefits The chapter titled 'Career Paths and Their Benefits' introduces readers to a game world where players start their journey in mining. Players receive their first ship for free and are encouraged to explore the universe. The chapter emphasizes the importance of the elite dangerous fandom.com Wiki as a helpful resource for new players.
08:00 - 10:00: Choosing Your Playstyle The chapter 'Choosing Your Playstyle' emphasizes the importance of utilizing resources like the game's Wiki as a new player. The Wiki is introduced as a valuable tool that can answer a wide range of questions about the game, providing at least a rough outline of any topic a player might need to explore. This chapter likely encourages players to consult this resource to help them decide on their playstyle.
10:00 - 12:00: Combat and Money-Making Tips The chapter begins with the author discussing sources for in-depth information on gameplay. Despite having over 6,000 hours of experience, they still refer to essential resources for specific queries such as weapon damage. The chapter plans to start with the basics, focusing initially on careers within the game, which is familiar territory for longtime players.
12:00 - 14:00: Exploration and Trading as Profitable Ventures This chapter addresses common questions about what players can do in a game where they control a spaceship. It emphasizes the variety of career paths available in the game, focusing on exploration and trading as profitable ventures. The discussion points out that some career paths can generate money faster than others, with a focus on combat-related careers like assassin and bounty hunter roles.
14:00 - 16:00: The Importance of Ships and Equipment This chapter emphasizes the significance of ships and equipment in various missions, specifically highlighting how different military or combat-related tasks require specialized ship builds and UNF foot suit builds with particular guns. It suggests that understanding these components is crucial before deciding on a course of action in the missions related to being a mercenary, pirate, or Xeno Hunter.
16:00 - 18:00: Buying the Right Equipment for Exploration This chapter discusses the considerations a new player should have when buying equipment for exploration games. It begins by questioning the player's personal preferences, contrasting fast-paced action games like Call of Duty with exploration or crafting-focused games. The discussion emphasizes the importance of aligning equipment purchases with the type of game play the player enjoys, whether it's heavy on combat or more focused on exploration and crafting.
18:00 - 21:00: Resources for Players: Websites and Tools This chapter focuses on resources available for players who are interested in game elements such as bounty hunting, mercenary services, and piracy. It suggests that players who enjoy shooting can concentrate on these activities, noting the dual perception of actions in games: while someone may see themselves as a bounty hunter, others may view them as a pirate.
21:00 - 23:00: Building and Modifying Your Ship This chapter discusses the strategic decision-making process in the game related to ship building and modification, particularly in preparation for Xeno hunting. It suggests that early in the game, players should concentrate on Player vs Environment (PVE) combat, either in ships or on foot, before delving into the more specialized area of constructing a ship for Xeno hunting. This aspect of the game may become relevant after 200 to 300 hours of gameplay once players have engaged extensively in other game activities.
23:00 - 25:00: Using In-game Codex and Pilot's Handbook The chapter discusses the ease and cost-effectiveness of setting up a small ship for combat in the game. While it does require preparation, the time and monetary investment are minimal compared to other activities. However, it highlights that combat has historically not been a fast way to earn money in the game, suggesting other methods might be more profitable if the primary goal is financial gain.
25:00 - 27:00: Traveling and Docking at Stations The chapter discusses alternate activities to combat in a game, focusing on exploration and trading. Exploration currently offers a high payout, while trading offers the second best payout. Both activities can be initiated with relatively small ships, though it is advantageous to upgrade to larger ships quickly.
27:00 - 30:00: Exploring the Station and Making Purchases The chapter discusses the exploration of a new station and the process of making purchases for better equipment, specifically focusing on ships. It highlights that players should not be too concerned about spending a large amount of money on ship upgrades at the start. The 'Hauler' ship, though not aptly named for its capacity, is recommended due to its long jump range and affordability, costing under 300,000. Players are encouraged to focus on earning more money through gameplay, which would allow them to purchase multiple ships if they desire.
30:00 - 32:00: Understanding In-game Services and Interfaces This chapter focuses on the understanding of in-game services and interfaces, particularly focusing on the progression of upgrading ships. Initially, players start with a basic ship provided for free, but it is essential to upgrade to more advanced ships such as the hauler to perform more complex tasks. For those interested in exploration, acquiring an A-rated jump drive is vital to enhance exploration capabilities. The chapter highlights the importance of upgrading in-game assets to advance and explore within the game world.
32:00 - 33:00: Final Tips and Encouragement for New Players The chapter provides final tips and encouragement for new players, focusing on managing ship components in a space exploration game. It starts by advising players that all in-game purchased ships begin with the most basic components unless bought with real money. The narrator suggests the importance of upgrading these parts for activities like exploration or exobiology, highlighting the latter as a more profitable venture.
How to start in Elite Dangerous DAY ONE for total Beginners the fast, quick and easy way tutorial Transcription
00:00 - 00:30 greetings commanders this is Commander Atlas Rand and today I have a very beginner beginner beginner video for you so this one I would Place ahead of all my other videos in terms of what order to watch them for a brand new player the reason I'm doing this video is because I've recently come across a couple of different people that are streamers that just got into
00:30 - 01:00 Elite and I can see the frustration on their faces as they make 10 mistakes for every one correct thing they do uh this game as those of us that have been playing for a while very much know is not an easy game it has a very long learning curve you can play this game for two years and keep learning new things that you didn't know about in the past I don't think it's the steepest learning curve by any stretch I think
01:00 - 01:30 Eve online takes that particular uh Victory it is uh not any smaller than Elite dangerous and may be a little bigger in fact but the learning curve is even steeper luckily we're playing Elite online uh or maybe maybe that's a new game we're playing uh Elite dangerous God I keep thinking even line so uh let's focus on everything about this
01:30 - 02:00 game and start off with the very very very basic Basics so you've installed the game you ran it it guided you through a tutorial mission where you were on foot uh turning on a settlement and then shooting your laser guns to kill the bad guys and after successfully doing that you were sent to pick up a ship and get trained on flying a ship do a little bit
02:00 - 02:30 of Mining and then shoot some bad guys and so then what do you do you you're given your first ship for free and then you're just sort of pat on the back and said well go out there and explore the world so this is where we're starting literally your first hour in the game the first thing I want to do is introduce you to the elite dangerous fandom.com Wiki
02:30 - 03:00 this will be greatly beneficial to you as a new player you can see I've got the address right here and I will have a link to the wiki in the description of the video this Wiki has information about everything in the game that you might have questions about now that information may be fairly small it may only give you the rough outline of that topic but it should be in the wiki
03:00 - 03:30 nonetheless there are other places that you can go for more in-depth information but usually and this is even something I do today after over 6,000 hours playing this game usually if there's something that I want to look up this is the first place I'm going to go if I forget how much damage a particular weapon puts out I will go here so let's start at the very very basic location here which is careers now most of us that have been playing the game for a while have played
03:30 - 04:00 most if not all of these careers at one point or another but this is a question that I've seen asked as like well what do I do in this game like I have a spaceship do I just fly around shooting bad guys what do I do well there are a number of career paths that you can take some of them will get you money much faster than others so let's just go down this list start with combat related ones they have separated out as assassin Bounty
04:00 - 04:30 Hunter we're not even going to cover CQC you don't need to worry about that mercenary onf foot mercenary pirate Xeno Hunter so these are all really military related or combat related missions and they each have their own specialized ship builds or UNF foot suit builds with particular guns so before you need to really decide what you want to do the
04:30 - 05:00 first question I would ask a brand new player is what do you like more do you like games like Call of Duty where you're constantly non-stop running and gunning you like to have something that you can be shooting at and somebody shooting at you or do you like games that are more exploration or more building and crafting where you may end up shooting at somebody or getting shot by somebody but that is not the main
05:00 - 05:30 game elements that you're looking for so if you like to shoot you're probably going to want to focus on things like bounty hunting bounty hunting um which is I would really group it with mercenary Services as well um and even piracy because if you're bounty hunting other groups well you're kind of the pirate to them while you're the Bounty Hunter to yourself and I would forget
05:30 - 06:00 about Xeno Hunter early on in the game I would revisit this maybe 200 to 300 hours into game play if you're still playing the game and you're still interested and you've done quite a bit of other PVE activities maybe at that point start looking at building a ship specifically to try your hand at Zeno hunting but initially you're going to want to focus on PVE combat either in ships or on foot uh on ship combat that
06:00 - 06:30 is well I don't want to say it's necessarily easier but it certainly requires less preparation time you can get a ship set up even a small ship can be set up fairly quickly and easily and without too much money to be able to start doing combat in your ship however combat right now and really for most of the history of the game is not a particularly fast way to make money so if your goal is to make money
06:30 - 07:00 rather than specifically do combat there's some other activities that can be done and the two main categories of those activities are going to be exploration which has a very nice payout right now or trading which has probably the second best payout and both of these activities can be done starting with fairly small ships you're going to want to get something fairly quickly bigger
07:00 - 07:30 than your starter ship but you really don't need to spend too much money in fact a ship called the hauler which is not a great name for that ship because it doesn't have very much room to haul things but it does have a fairly long jump range that you can get from that ship and it's extremely cheap it's I think it's under 300,000 and you're going to be making millions so you'll be able to afford multiple haulers if you wanted to of course you you don't really need
07:30 - 08:00 multiple versions of that ship but once you again you can start with the ship that you get for free but you're going to want to updated fairly quickly and I would say the first step is probably going to be the hauler for you um if you want to get into doing exploration the most important thing you're going to want to focus on is buying an arated jump drive for your
08:00 - 08:30 ship uh It All Ships when you first buy them come with the absolute worst components in the game that is pretty much a standard thing the only exception to that would be ships you're buying with real money but let's just focus on buying ships in game rather than with real money and so if you're going to do exploration or exobiology which is really the the portion of exploration that is the most profitable
08:30 - 09:00 then really any ship will work but the longer the jump range the better it will work what you're going to be doing is going from planet to planet landing on that planet and this is of course limited to only planets that you can land on and then looking for uh for life on those planets so I just zoomed into the picture this is an example of a plant on some random Planet you will be looking for things like this come coming up to them with a scanner and then
09:00 - 09:30 scanning them now where do you get the scanner because you don't get the scanner automatically for free you have to buy the scanner and it actually is part of a suit specifically for exploration called the Artemis suit and you can buy that suit at any station that has a store in it um I forget the name of the store off the top of my head but um uh in fact I wonder if
09:30 - 10:00 where we are no they're not going to have a store uh at this station but basically any station that has a store where you can buy guns or suits or supplies they should have a version of the Artemis suit that you'll be able to purchase and the suit looks pretty much like the one that's in this image although all three of the suit types look pretty Sim ilar so it's hard to
10:00 - 10:30 tell just by looking at them but Artemis is the name of the suit that you'll want you should have enough money at the start of the game as soon as you're given your free ship if you don't buy anything else at that point you should have enough money to buy this Artemus suit once you've purchased your Artemus suit you can get into your starter ship and literally go to any landable planet and um well there's actually one
10:30 - 11:00 more step involved here but you you could even without doing the uh the probing of the planet you could just fly over the planet and see if there are any plants growing there but ideally you will buy one more piece of equipment and let me uh close this window and I'll show you the piece of equipment that you want to oops that you want to buy and I've got one on this ship so I can
11:00 - 11:30 just show you right here it is a detailed surface scanner now mine says pre-engineered don't worry about that that's something you can pick up later um but you're just looking for something called a detailed surface scanner and that detailed surface scanner is equipment that goes into the smallest size internal optional compartment on your ship you can either replace
11:30 - 12:00 something else or if you have an empty slot on your ship you can just put it in there this will allow you to fly to a planet shoot out some probes at that planet and they will scan the planet for you and I will go ahead and do this but before we do that I want to go back to the website um so this website has um me jump to it real quick here as well okay this is not working
12:00 - 12:30 hello there we go there's the website this website will have information that you can look up for example if we click on exobiology here it'll tell you more you got some more pictures of plants being scanned all that good stuff it'll tell you that there are different ranks that you can achieve once you start scanning it'll tell you that there are are different uh species that you can scan
12:30 - 13:00 they have different requirements blah blah blah you can read this on your own and I highly recommend that people read information on the activities they want to do on the website before starting because um well there's two personality types right there's a personality type that never wants to learn or read and just wants to go out there and do and that's fine play the game the way you want to play the game but for the other 95% of the population
13:00 - 13:30 that doesn't like wasting time then it's highly highly useful to be able to go to a site like this and actually read what am I doing what is the process what kind of things am I looking for oh are these uh tusu worth more money should I focus on getting them or should I focus on bacteria which is worth very little money um there's a section on payouts there's tells you about first footfall like if you're the first one to ever
13:30 - 14:00 scan something the amount you get paid for doing that is multiplied by five and that's a huge development so do use a website like this next website we're going to look at is inara everybody that's starts playing this game on your first day in the game you should open up a browser if you got two monitors keep this second window open toara it's going to save you a ton of time and headaches
14:00 - 14:30 inara and the elite dangerous section they also have one for Starfield but the big section that you're interested in is Elite dangerous and when you go here you can see they've got different sections and you can you know you can look at any of them read up on the thargoid war see what the Galaxy is doing what are the community goals but the most common things you're going to look use are in this data menu you're going to click on search nearest or you're going to look at Commodities if
14:30 - 15:00 you're going to do trading you're going to click on trade routes and if you're trying to upgrade or engineer your ship you're going to click on component trading and then also one more section outfitting and this will guide you towards where to buy new components for your ship for example today the person that I was talking to uh he just found out that he needs carbon in order to upgrade some piece of equipment that he has in the ship and he
15:00 - 15:30 was trying to find where carbon is and I said well you know you can mine carbon in asteroid in belts around planets and so he immediately flew to an asteroid belt thinking that he could just shoot them with the lasers that came with his ship I said no no no hold on hold on your first stop has to be to buy the right equipment because this game is not a um well it's it's not like no man's sky or or a myriad of other Sho them up
15:30 - 16:00 games where you can literally jump in and within an hour you've got all the equipment you've got everything you need and then you're just doing the same thing over and over think of playing Elite dangerous as a slow process of building a foundation then building the first floor then building the second floor then building the third floor and on and and on and on and you end up with a skyp scraper eventually this game can take many months to even many years
16:00 - 16:30 to play to get to a point where you feel like you've done just about everything uh like I said at the beginning of the video I've played this game for over 6,000 hours that's more than three years of fulltime now obviously I've been doing this more than three years so I'm not playing full-time but if you think of it that way that is basically three years of eight hours a day uh during business hours uh and I still have not done
16:30 - 17:00 everything in the game I'm close but still not everything there's still plenty of places I need to still go and visit there are still some items that I have never gotten uh and certainly I have in the back of my head a lot of things planned to do at some point that I've just been putting on the back burner so using tools like anara will greatly speed up the process and help you get to a point in the game where you're actually doing things so for this
17:00 - 17:30 person for example he needed to have a mining laser so we click on outfitting click here and then type in mining laser okay and it shows you a lot of different mining lasers at this point you might have a question which one do I need well what do you do you go back to this site to the elite dangerous Wiki and then you look for uh well how do I find out what kind of mining laser that's probably going to be an outfitting let's go into
17:30 - 18:00 outfitting uh mining lasers that's a gun so that's a hardpoint so then what types of weapons can I put on here and uh let's see it's going to these are utility amounts so it should actually be up in the weapon section yeah or maybe it's got a mining section that's separate but you want to use the websites that are available to determine uh okay here we go so you go to weapons
18:00 - 18:30 let's see mining tools there we go so now it tells you okay you have different types of mining tools so beyond mining lasers you also have abrasion blasters subsurface displacement missiles Siz make charge launchers wow what are all these things well again you just click and you find out so you want to know about mining lasers click on that go to the article on mining lasers it's going to tell you the background it'll tell you that there's two sizes of mining lasers you can get what are the
18:30 - 19:00 differences oh well they cost a different amount of money they take a different amount of energy and it looks like they um they have different heat that they put out different Power draw uh so there's some differences between them but if you can't really see a useful difference between them just start by getting something cheap you can always upgrade and get something more expensive later there's no point in getting the most expensive thing if you don't know what the difference between that and
19:00 - 19:30 something else is so you go back to inara you say let's just do a basic onesze mining laser and then you type in the system name that you're in I happen to be in q1 so I hit search and there's the search results so this in order of distance closest to me to further away it will show me where that part is available and I can go to the wind terminal here
19:30 - 20:00 in in q1 arani and land there and be able to go and buy this mining laser piece what do I do with the mining laser well we come to the third app that everybody should know how to use and have bookmarked when you're playing this game super super useful app called Etsy so you go to EDS y.org again I have links to all this stuff in the show in the U Notes to the video I keep thinking notes um and what does this do well this
20:00 - 20:30 is a virtual ship building tool that lets you completely customize a ship and then see what the parameters are am I using too much power is my ship running too hot what kind of speed should I expect when I'm flying this ship either at normal speed or full Boost what happens if I put all power to engines will that make my speed faster all of these questions all these calculations are done by the software it's also the
20:30 - 21:00 software that most of us use to trade ship builds so once I've configured a ship the way I like it here I can hit export generate and then copy that short link and then paste it in and give it to you for example and then you will have a link that you can click on that will literally open this page and you'll see how my ship is built I have two mining lasers and there their size twos maybe that's what you want to
21:00 - 21:30 do as well and then all these other things and it shows you all the different parameters if you're curious about everything in your ship and if you want to change something let's say we want to take this and and swap these two size two mining lasers with size ones well you just right click on that it becomes empty and then you go over here okay so mines that's not what we want mining tools that's that is what we want so we put a side one mining laser in
21:30 - 22:00 there and then you can compare what's the difference between the size two and size one you can see on the right side it's showing you what all the differences are if you like using the size ones you hold down the control key and you just drag it and replace the size two and now you can see our ship is using even less power because we have size ones instead of size twos on here very very useful tool allows you to both look at what other people are doing play around yourself and really build a ship
22:00 - 22:30 before you actually spend any in-game money so you've got these three tools bookmarked you're using all of them now at some point obviously we are playing a game so you do want to get back to the game but when you get back to the game now you know a lot more uh you know for example that if you go out here you've got you've got a couple of mining lasers that you're using and you you see that oh look my ship's power is in the red zone so there's I'm using too much so
22:30 - 23:00 you may need to adjust some things to make sure you're not in the red although there's kind of workarounds this as well that are a little more beyond the scope of this video but now you you know what to do to set up a ship to do what your goal is whether it's mining or whether it's hauling or whether it's doing exploration and scans and of course if you do mostly exploration you don't need to really configure your ship too much although you may want to upgrade your
23:00 - 23:30 actually it's in core here you may want to upgrade your frame shift drive to an A type so whatever number is going to be the same it's the same as the number that it came with but it'll usually come with like a 5e and then you'll want to buy a 5A Drive which will give you much longer range now this ship is somewhat extreme because it is my long range ship for exploration and it has a maximum jump range of 76 and a current jump range of
23:30 - 24:00 75 Lighty years generally your starter ship will have a jump range of about 10 Lighty years so about seven times less than this thing can jump but it doesn't mean that your ship is useless it just means everything will require more jumps to get to and that's also part of the reason that you want to upgrade to another ship like the hauler pretty darn quickly and then after the hauler there are a few other ships along the way that
24:00 - 24:30 would be the next set of upgrades depending on what kind of activity you do so let's say you did want to upgrade from a 5e to a 5A Drive what do you do there well again we're going to do the same thing we're going to go back to this window we're going to do a change search close that out put in a 5A and it's a 5A frame shift drive and there's actually two types so there's also
24:30 - 25:00 a uh there's a 5A and you could just put in the word frame here like I did and there's also an SEO type so let me find one of those so here's a 5A SEO so which one do you use well guess what you do you go back here you you go back to the wiki you can either type in a field in the search or you can go back to the uh top level of it and then look for or what what is this probably going to be an outfitting
25:00 - 25:30 it's not weapons it's going to be internal components so under internal components click on that what kind of component is it it's a frame shift drive so click on that it tells you all about frame shift drives tells you about the engineering you can do and all kinds of other topics gives you fun math equations that you absolutely don't need but if you're interested in the fuel equation you can certainly see that as well um and it
25:30 - 26:00 lists off all the different Pro uh different parameters and the prices of each of the drives that you might want to buy and some way here it's going to separate out the seos versus I don't know maybe I'm skipped through it the SEO drives versus non SEO drives because that the SEO drives showed showed up about a year ago as the time of this video it also shows you where to buy
26:00 - 26:30 some of these things um so see here class specifics where is it doing let me look here SEO okay there we go so FSD SEO adds the capability of super Cruise overdrive for much faster travel within a star system what super Cruise overdrive go over here uh it tell you about overcharging or I
26:30 - 27:00 guess it's super Cruise overcharge not overdrive it's basically turbo I just call it the turbo button or nitrous button if you like it just makes you go zoom and burn a lot of fuel that's what it does so you can read about that and then you can make a decision which Drive do you want to upgrade this do you want to go normal or do you want to go SEO is it worth the difference in price so you're starting to understand the process that is used and this is not just for noobs which of course you are
27:00 - 27:30 if this is your first day playing the game or even your first week playing the game and I mean let's be honest if it's your first year playing a game you're still kind of a noob but uh using these three tools that I've shown you is going to save you a ton of frustration and a ton of time just doing things that result in nothing in the game so once you've uh figured out what you want
27:30 - 28:00 to do uh and what equipment you need to do and let's say you just want a haul well you don't need mining equipment for hauling but you do want the faster SEO so you probably upgraded that already and let's say you wanted to do the exobiology you wanted to go and and look for plants well you've put in the two modifications to your ship a faster um drive for it frame shift drive and
28:00 - 28:30 then also the other component that I showed here which was the detailed surface scanner and now you can go and look for planets and of course uh just to put a plug in in my own video about my own videos or anybody else's remember your fourth most common website that's going to be YouTube You're Going to do a a a lot of you're going to do search seches that may lead you down to YouTube and you'll
28:30 - 29:00 do you know Elite danger Dangerous YouTube mining let's do that search so then we have a bunch of choices on mining and I'm sure I'm somewhere towards the bottom of all this stuff because um a lot of people have made videos way before me so you'd have to say like video made in the last month to uh to track down something that I've
29:00 - 29:30 made I don't even know if this is this is not even mine this is somebody somebody else's video same topic as I am doing but oh this is a live one so this is actually running as I'm recording this so great perfect but you see the the point is you're going to use external Tools in order to find out how to play this game better because if all you do is try and stay in the game you're going to going be more frustrated this is what we all did that have been
29:30 - 30:00 playing for seven plus years we learned it the hard way by just kind of being in the game and playing now you do have I do want to mention you do have some tools in the game so if you hit the four key you can look at your right side panel there's a thing called codex and this codex oh we're not I I didn't have the right thing displayed okay great so I wasn't even showing where to go let me do that that again you go here there's
30:00 - 30:30 the Codex that I was describing you go to the Codex in the Codex you can look at your discoveries you'll have none of them when you first start you have knowledge base and Pilot's Handbook your Pilot's Handbook is sort of like the tutorial section the how do I do this so you want to learn about bounty hunting you go here it's got a lot of information about what what you need to do to Bounty hun the types of weapons the types of ship loadouts Etc um you want to learn about crime and
30:30 - 31:00 punishments in the game like can I end up in jail yes you can why do I have a bounty on my head well you probably shot a policeman or something uh you can learn about the engineers who are they how do I get them what do they do for me all that good stuff in here and then the other section is the knowledge base which is more of the sort of the lore of the game or what what do you need to know to feel like you're living in this
31:00 - 31:30 universe you want to learn about the alien species that Humanity's been fighting for like last four years learn about the tharo you want to learn about different political factions the Empire the Federation the Lions they're in here um boy that's a lot of stuff there you want to learn about the Guardians who are they well they're all dead now but they're an ancient civilization that we have been finding very very useful technology information from and all
31:30 - 32:00 kinds of other things and so that that is something that is accessible from your number four menu which is your right side menu so this is your centered looking forward looking to the right you have this there's the Codex that's what we looking at you also have other things like Hollow me to customize your character power play to look at what rank you are or to First Join one of the 12 current power play
32:00 - 32:30 groups you would click on Power Play I'm already in one I'm in in the uh Leong Ru but you would be able to select which one you want to join from this menu um going back here it shows you to the left side here your six different ranks you rank up in each of these as you do more activities CQC is something most people don't do that's basic basically just continuous pew pew it's a different mode
32:30 - 33:00 of the game that you would log into and just stay in where you're constantly just over and over shooting at ships and then as soon as you die you just respawn again uh I don't do it most people I know don't really do it but it's there if you want to do it squadrons is the equivalent of guilds um training is the training that you probably hopefully already went through when you first started the game engine Engineers will give you details about your engineers whether they're
33:00 - 33:30 locked or unlocked you can read about them and find out where to go to unlock your engineers and your engineers are the ones that will be able to upgrade your ship and your equipment and then gnet news is actually kind of neat this is a about once every week maybe once every couple of weeks they post articles and you can listen to the Articles not just read them so sometimes if a new article comes out I'll just started playing in audio and then go about and use my ship like
33:30 - 34:00 normal um so we've covered what tools you want to use we've covered some of the basic professions and let's say you actually want to go and do the um the very lucrative money-making activity of exobiology well I have a video that shows you how to do exobiology and I'm not the only one obviously a lot of other people have videos on how do exobiology the key thing you're going to need to
34:00 - 34:30 do is to get that emis suit and you get that Artemis suit like I mentioned earlier by going to a station and then buying it at a store once you've bought the suit you will always have it you can see I'm wearing my Artemis suit and you can put it on by going to loadouts and this will list all the suits that you have you may have other names of your suits these are just the names I've named them because I'm not very very creative um so I just named the suit for
34:30 - 35:00 the suit that it actually is in the store but uh you just select your emous suit you put it on and then that suit has the scanner for the exobiology and like I said if you actually want to see how to do exobiology just watch that other video that shows you how to do exobiology and there's a few of them I've done specifically on that topic so that's that's by hitting the the uh three button that you look at the menu between your legs here um now I already mentioned the number four menu on your
35:00 - 35:30 right side you have the number one menu on your left side what do you have in here you have the very leftmost tab you have information about your current system your next tab has all the different locations in the system that you may want to go to and you can select those locations like let's say we want to go to this station we would hit space bar select it and then hit that again to lock it in and now if we leave this current station
35:30 - 36:00 or I'm actually on a planet if we leave this you will see that I'm targeting the the station that I just selected you probably did something similar in the training scenario that you went through uh at the very start of the game I know you did that because I I vaguely remember doing that okay now so it's super dark what do you do well there's two things you can you can
36:00 - 36:30 complain you can hit L to turn your lights on on the ship uh or you can hit number four button go to ship in your tabs and then go to where is it uh external lights are on night vision on oh look at that now you can see in the dark so night vision is very useful I actually have my night vision mapped to a joystick button because it's very useful to turn it on and off again and an awful lot of things can be ma mapped
36:30 - 37:00 to joystick keyboard or Mouse buttons in this game so take advantage of that so you can see some pretty little nebula here okay so we're going to fly to Blackwell station now we can see it we can see it says it's 7,691 light seconds away that's not close I'll tell you that right away okay it also said we're no longer it says fire zone exit which means we're no longer Mass locked so we can fly out of here it's going to give me an escape
37:00 - 37:30 Vector you don't have to exactly Target it but just get it close to the Escape Vector make sure you have your speed on Full Speed Ahead and now we're going to fly to this Blackwell platform however you see it's kind of dotted and I don't see any stars around it what could that mean well most likely it means there's a planet in the way and you don't want to smack into that planet so aim away from there there as long as it's kind of
37:30 - 38:00 white dotted like that and just accelerate up to a good speed we're still leaving the planet I'm going to do something you don't need to do here which is I'm going to switch into third person view and you'll be able to see that we're leaving the planet that little bright light in the middle of the planet is where we just were it's a it's a um a little station or city on the planet this is my ship and you can see that
38:00 - 38:30 we're flying by another planet that was in the way of our ultimate destination now we got some sunlight here let me get back inside the ship and now this thing is no longer dotted it is solid yellow so I can turn off night vision no longer need that we've got sunlight and now we can just fly there at this normal speed at Full Throttle um or you can go to 3/4
38:30 - 39:00 throttle and then go here to reselect the station you're going to need to do it manually so let's find where it is I think it was 7,000 something there it is bake well so select that and then go to super Cruise assist turn that on and as long as we're at 3/4 speed it'll automatically control the direction so that even if I'm a little off I let go of my my uh controller it just Zs right back
39:00 - 39:30 to the middle so it's an autopilot but autopilot only works at 3/4 speed so if you want to go faster put it to Full Throttle and if we at Full Throttle you can see it's not moving me back to the middle here it's going to leave me anywhere that I go now I have an SEO drive and SEO drives one of their main advantages is being able to go quickly and kick in that nitrous or turbo mode so I'm going to do that to get a little closer I'll drop out of it about 5 seconds away
39:30 - 40:00 right about here and I did that knowing that number is still going to increase up so now we're at 27 I'm going to fly at Full Throttle for the next 20 seconds or so and then I will slow down to 3/4 speed as we get closer to the platform itself to the station but again this St is mostly what you should have been learning during the
40:00 - 40:30 tutorial now once you get under 10 really seven but for sure under 10 that's when I flip it over to 3/4 speed and I already have Cruise assist turned down that we did earlier so as soon as I put on 3/4 speed it kicks in and automatically um wants to fly me to that station it's going to keep tweaking the direction of the ship to be pointing directly at bwell platform it'll also be slowing the ship
40:30 - 41:00 down automatically so I don't have to slow the ship down it will take care of sloping the ship down and the super Cruise assist only works if you have super Cruise assist installed in your ship most ships you buy will come with it installed but not all ships and if you would like to add it you can manually buy it at a station usually the same station you buy the ship at and put it in there if you don't want to use it
41:00 - 41:30 if you only want to fly manually you can certainly get rid of it sell it and then put something else into that slot so this is hands off I'm not touching anything it's controlling Direction and it is automatically slowing the ship down and when we get and when we get right up to the platform it's going to yeah thank you uh when we get right up to the platform it's going to
41:30 - 42:00 automatically drop us out of warp which is going to be again done without me having to touch anything and while it's doing this I I can still you know turn the ship around its axis I can actually even pull out of this if I wanted to but then it's no longer going to be in automatic control so so as soon as I bring the the direction back to Bakewell it super
42:00 - 42:30 Cruise takes over and once again it's going to take care of uh controlling direction and speed for me and you can see looking at the stars that we are actually turning very slowly as we're getting closer to it so here we are so here's the station now ironically enough this is considered one of the the most dangerous types of stations for new players
42:30 - 43:00 because it's got these huge Hammer arms and if if this you are unlucky enough to be in the location of that hammer arm as it comes swinging by you may lose your ship because the station isn't going to be the one that stops your ship is going to get whacked very hard you're going to lose your Shields and potentially you're going to actually lose a lot more than your Shields so a good call here is just to wait till it passes or to just go
43:00 - 43:30 very wide around it and then fly towards the entrance and then you can tell the entrance because it has all these advertisements in front of it you'll see them before you see the actual entrance opening now you have two ways to go in one is your ship may have come with or you may have purchased automatic docking option for your ship the other way is to do it manually but before you go in I'm just going to park here you want to
43:30 - 44:00 make sure that you oops don't do that that you go to your number one your left hand controls here and then switch over to contacts make sure the station is selected and hit request docking once request docking is granted if your ship has automatic docking like mine does it will start automatically flying to dock now I can also disable automatic docking
44:00 - 44:30 by going here and doing autod docking off and in that case you could see it stopped trying to dock now the station is turning so for most people doing Auto docking is preferable because um you know the station's turning so you're going to need to turn your ship in time to the rotational speed of the station as well so we'll go ahead and manually fly in here and then once I'm in here I'm going to be flying to
44:30 - 45:00 number 38 but since I have automatic docking I'll turn it on usually you will never turn it off or on I'm only turning it off to demonstrate to you that you can get in without it but if you have it installed on your ship and it's optional you can take it off put it on but if you have it installed in the ship and you have Auto doing turned down which you should by default then your ship will do this automatically so now you're at a station and let's
45:00 - 45:30 again we're pretending we're going to go to do xenobiology first thing I always do is refuel the ship and then you're going to want to disembark the ship you're going to leave the ship in order to go into the station to go to the store that sells the gear like the suit the emous suit that you're going to need in order to fly out and do xenobiology so you could do this in the same station
45:30 - 46:00 that you got your free ship in or you could do it in a different station it really doesn't matter but at some point if you're going to do xon biology you need to get to a station and get out of your ship and this is kind of neat actually because you spend so much time in the game flying in your ship that actually getting out of your ship to stretch your legs and see some new sights it's kind of fun because you have very typical elevator music playing in
46:00 - 46:30 here all right now we're at a station most stations look fairly similar to this there's a little bit of difference different color paint palettes different uh posters hanging maybe slightly different um locations for things but they're all generally fairly similar you can see we have Vista genomics right here this is where you will go once you've done some scans of plants of Biologicals you're going to go in here you're going to go up to this guy and
46:30 - 47:00 sell them but you have nothing right now so there's nothing to sell so instead you're going to go to Pioneer supplies which is the name that I forgot before Pioneer Supply is where you'll be able to buy your suit so we hit e let me browse your stock got four suits let's take a look what's available Dominator Maverick Maverick and Artemis so Artemis is the one you're going to want to get and that has the genan sampler and that's the thing you're going to use to scan the
47:00 - 47:30 plants with you can see also there are two different Mavericks here there's a grade one and a more expensive grade two once you've accumulated some money I've got a little under a billion here myself but keep you're not going to have that initially once you've accumulated some money it's always a good idea to buy the highest level rated version of your suit like there are two Mavericks here but only one of these two suits a different station may have two different arnus suits but only one of each of
47:30 - 48:00 these other ones so it's always useful to look early on in the game when you're first starting every station you go to it's a good idea to get out of your ship walk in here and see what's for sale CU sometimes you'll get a good deal you'll be able to get a suit that already has some cool features same thing with weapons I go in here these are all very basic weapons nothing special here but sometimes you'll click on all grades and you'll get a a grade two or even a Grade Three weapon or a Grade Three suit which
48:00 - 48:30 normally would take quite a bit of upgrading to get to if you can get those just by buying them it's always worth it so you've got your suit you know where you're going to come back to to turn in your scans what else is in the station well we have a a ship store you can also buy this from your ship you can look at ships for sale or you could do it in person by going up here you have a bar where you cannot buy a
48:30 - 49:00 drink ironically the bartender is really used as a sort of a trade market for materials that you would gather while you're on foot you got a nice view of the station you could see people standing here with little blue circles anyone that has a little circle like this is a mission Giver so you can ignore them for the time being eventually if you want to take missions from these people you can go up to ask them what kind of missions they have they'll tell you you can even
49:00 - 49:30 haggle with them for how much they're going to pay you another couple things you might want to know in the station is apex apex is the taxi system in the game if you want to go somewhere but don't want to fly your own ship you can go to Apex and order a shuttle and it'll ask you where do you want that shuttle to go you will select it it'll tell you the price the price is super cheap usually and then go back here or go uh I guess it's on this side go back here those
49:30 - 50:00 elevators and get into a shuttle and I'll take you there and on this side we have Frontline Solutions Frontline Solutions is basically military Contracting so if there are any wars in the system you can talk to them there aren't any wars so the only thing they can do is redeem combat bonds but if there was a war in the system you could sign up for their mercenary service and then it'll tell you to go fight in that war so that's really about it and then
50:00 - 50:30 those are the elevators you would take if you sign up to fight in the war otherwise you're going to go down here more of these Mission givers down here and then you have kiosks that's the last thing you have at every station the kiosks allow you to take missions for onf foot if you're sitting in the ship you will take missions for uh fighting in the ship so but if you want an onf foot mission you can um you can take them those types of missions
50:30 - 51:00 here so these are have to do with like going to places getting out of your ship and then doing something and the skull means something illegal don't take any illegal missions until you're much more comfortable with the game because you're probably going to lose that mission not make anything off of it and likely to get either killed or sent to prison all right we're at about an hour and I don't want to give you more data than youve already gotten at this point
51:00 - 51:30 but I definitely wanted to give a very basic basic basic like what do I do in this game what are my options what are my choices and what tools out of game do I need to use what tools in game do I need to use Community is pretty friendly you can always ask questions or leave comments in videos somebody is bound to answer your question oh yeah you don't actually walk up here to get into any of the ships it would be cool if that worked it
51:30 - 52:00 does not this game came out 10 years ago and they haven't really changed that so you always look for the blue circle to get back in your own ship all right Commander so this is my most basic video as I've said I've got a ton of other videos that tell you about specific elements within the game so feel free to watch something or search for a video on a topic that you have questions about and I may do a second follow-up beginner video at some point
52:00 - 52:30 as well to bring up things that I didn't talk about in this video but I think after about an hour here this is probably as much of a data dump as you need in any single sitting so hopefully you've got something useful out of it hopefully you're less confused than you were when you started watching the video one quick comment for guys that have been playing the game a long time like me if you watching this video you knew this wasn't meant for you so don't leave me snarky comments about how well
52:30 - 53:00 actually uh you can do this this and this thing and then you don't have to hit this button I know okay I know all that same stuff that you do but this video is specifically for beginners so I wanted to make everything as simple as possible and that's why I'm not giving shortcuts I'm giving long cuts I'm telling people how to do things on their own and then as they start learning they'll be a ble to get more of the shortcuts done thanks for watching everybody I will catch you in the next
