🤯📊Notebook LM vs MarkMap: Which Mind Mapping Tool Wins? 🤖🧠 Transcription

            • 00:00 - 00:30 hello everyone welcome back to my channel again today let's talk about mind map mind map is very useful for us to learn a subject or construct our ideas i think it's very useful to have different toolkits to serve our learning purpose so today we are going to check two mind map tool one is from notebook LM the other one is mark map so before we go to the test let's first check the
            • 00:30 - 01:00 different advantages and disadvantages and functionalities from the map that I just drew so as you can see here the first one is notebook LM the second one is mark map um as you can see on the right hand side I actually have a scoring uh results eventually I get a six points for notebook LM five points for mark now I'm going to explain you why I give these scores for notebook LM as you can see there are three boxes I
            • 01:00 - 01:30 made here so basically the first box is about uh if it is open source or not open source uh how about the storage uh vertical integration and so on uh as you can see for notebook LM uh you need a Google account to login you have cloud storage you have a vertical integration with different Google applications and also you can use uh any documentations from your Google drive which is uh very convenient however if you look on the site of mark map um it is open source and usually you just uh uh go to the
            • 01:30 - 02:00 website and you paste the markdown information and you are going to save the results in local uh storage then let's take a look at the main part for both notebook LM and markdown map for any mind map tools we need to understand input and output so for notebook LM we have a different uh input uh sources we can put a PDF file without uh using the markdown but if you use markdown
            • 02:00 - 02:30 sometimes you get some slightly different results of the mind map and then you can save the results in PNG where you can save it and use it elsewhere um and if we look at the markdown map parts uh the input you need to structure it to markdown format so if you follow strictly the markdown format provided by mark map you're going to get a very good organized mind map if you just copy the uh markdown of the chatbt response sometimes some of the details will not show because you need to follow
            • 02:30 - 03:00 100% the markdown format provided by mark map then you are going to see a very clear detail and about the output you can have HTML you can have SVG so there are some flexibility and regarding HTML if you save it you can expand the node do some visual changes it is dynamic so it's very convenient so the last part is about additional uh functionality and so on so basically for
            • 03:00 - 03:30 notebook LM you can have additional function ions like podcast and uh uh other functionalities of notebook LM because it is not a product uh specialized for mind map but now mind map has become one of the functions provided by Google uh on the other hand you cannot customize the mind map so basically it is one short generation you do not have the chance to modify it directly this is uh just one side that
            • 03:30 - 04:00 is not very convenient if we look at the mark map it is a customizable which means that uh you can change how you visualize this my map either you can use different functionalities provided in the website or you can just delete or add any content in that session and it also supports long text display and also different format display so in notebook LM the mind map will just show you a
            • 04:00 - 04:30 structure it is like an outline but for mark map you can show both outline and also detail information so these are some brief uh summary of the functionalities and the comparisons so I also made an arbitrary uh scoring for each part for example like for Google notebook IM for the first part about the accessibility and so on I give it four points okay because it also has some cloud storage vertical integration and
            • 04:30 - 05:00 you just operate in your browser you just operate with your Google account Google drive and so on but for mark map I give two points because uh it has two advantages it is open source it can uh allow you to save the docs uh in local environment you do not need to share your personal information to any service provider for the general workflow I think u uh notebook LM I give it one point because it is one shot generation
            • 05:00 - 05:30 but for mark map um we can have uh different output uh formats i think it's more convenient and and the last one is about additional functions and also uh long text support um I would say uh I would give each one one point because not is more versatile you can generate a podcaster and the different notes and so
            • 05:30 - 06:00 on but for mark map it is very convenient you can change any elements and also um make it a long text and eventually we have six points for notebook LM five points for mark but again this is just my initial arbitary scoring you can always uh pick uh the products according to your preference so now let's take a look at the interface of both tools okay now let's start using these two tools and see the difference
            • 06:00 - 06:30 so basically uh I'm using this um uh document uh the large language model page from Wikipedia uh let's just uh select all the text and copy uh first of all I'm going to put it directly in my notebook lm using copy the text function so I just insert the text information directly inside uh of course as I already said before you can use different uh doc sources so you can uh put them uh inside as a Google doc
            • 06:30 - 07:00 Google slide or pdf and so on and um now I just click copied text and I'm going to paste all the information here without editing anything i'm going to insert so after a while you're going to see that it already uh analyze all the information so if you click the source and you can see notebook has already uh obtained all the information and organized in its way and if you go to chat if you saw my previous uh video you
            • 07:00 - 07:30 already know that you can ask a questions you can generate audio overview add notes and so on but today let's just focus on mind map so we just click mind map as you can see here it is generating actually assigned also a title to it if you click it you're going to see this is a mind map generated so you can expand it as you want then you're going to see the details for example if you see the definition you're going to see these are key points um demonstrated in the documents you
            • 07:30 - 08:00 provided and also you are going to see the other part as well the results is quite good because uh generally speaking what you are going to see here uh is well organized right then you can download it as um PNG file but what you uh download is actually the current view you're going to see yeah this is a current view okay it is not first of all you cannot change uh this output because it is image file already generated you
            • 08:00 - 08:30 cannot change each node or the content in the mind map you can the generate notebook LM but it's not like you can change some specific parts as you want on the right hand side we have a mark map uh mark map is very intuitive you just follow the format and use it then you are fine uh of course you can also check the documentations here uh it is uh very well written and organized you can check it as you want but I'm going to go straight to the point try it out
            • 08:30 - 09:00 as you can see here directly on the left hand side you have a markdown format provided by markmap to have the mind map on the right hand side our text in the Wikipedia page is not in this format so we need to transform it to this format now let's take a look at GBT i'm going to say um transform below text to mark map format okay so now I'm just going to ask a charge to transform this text to mark
            • 09:00 - 09:30 map format but there is a little risk here sometimes it cannot recognize mark map or if the text is too long it cannot transform you see the disadvantage here is that you have to wait for the completion of the response then you move back to mark map well we are waiting for the generation of the response let's take a look at the mark map again i think there are several functions very interesting for example like the organization of the table table
            • 09:30 - 10:00 information as you can see here for the product price you can organize uh the table as such and also you can put for example this one is uh some code and also some text formula for example like uh here as you can see on the right hand side you can see the formula and so on and also a chat box you can also change the format of the text like highlight and so on so and also here you can add different links okay so the links you can click uh so there are different
            • 10:00 - 10:30 options that you can put different informations inside of this M and one of my favorite part is using wrap long text if you click it the long text will be wrapped um so I think it's very useful especially when you want to see like a very long text when you wrap the text you are going to show it in a very uh good way because you don't want it to expand to the right hand side infinitely so let's check if we already have it yes let's try to copy and paste it directly
            • 10:30 - 11:00 here as you can see here we have this mind map also summarize the text it is not displaying the whole text right so uh for initial inspection of this uh uh document I think it is uh useful because we see the outline just like uh notebook alm and uh you can zoom in just in the same session of the web browser you can check the different detail for like the definition I can expand as I want you
            • 11:00 - 11:30 can see the details and so on you can also for example use solid color the color will be always uh blue and you can also wrap long text like I said If you wrap the long text you are going to see long text in a in a better way because uh sometimes you can expand a node to the right hand side and creates a very long uh branch um you can also limit expand level if you limit it will just uh go back to the um highest level if
            • 11:30 - 12:00 you expand you're going to see all the details yeah here you can see there are also filter nodes uh center active nodes uh if you're interested you can check the documentation to see what they mean but for my case I think uh it's not uh 100% necessary to use them okay now we can see here we can download as interactive HTML or SVG that's downloadable SVG format is uh like a image but the text you can copy um it is
            • 12:00 - 12:30 uh already completely expanded okay and if we have HTML let's check HTML L so in HTML formats we can collapse all the uh nodes as we want okay and also expand as we want so it's uh very convenient and also you can see there are some additional functions like zoom in zoom out this will allow you to operate on this HTML uh dynamically okay so let's go back to notebook today just to conclude we have two tools to make mind
            • 12:30 - 13:00 map and now you already see advantages disadvantages limits and also flexibilities i would encourage you to try both and see which one fits your use case the best um I wish you like this video if you like my video don't forget to share with your friends give it a like leave a comment if you have any question feel free to reach out to me if you like my channel don't forget to subscribe please support my channel by using the different links in my link
