Summary
In this video, the creator explores the pros and cons of selling Pokémon sealed products across various platforms: Facebook Marketplace, Local Game Stores (LGS), TCG Player, and eBay. Each platform offers unique benefits, like avoiding shipping hassles with Facebook Marketplace and LGS, and fetching top market prices on eBay. However, there are downsides, such as the risk of scams on eBay and time wasted with uninterested buyers on Facebook Marketplace. The video highlights the importance of choosing the right platform based on product value and seller comfort.
Highlights
Avoid shipping costs with Facebook Marketplace and keep all the money! But watch out for flaky buyers. 🏠
Local Game Stores don't charge shipping or fees, but their cash offers can be hit-or-miss. Shop around! 🏪
TCG Player is popular for online sales, but entering as a newcomer might be tough without reviews. 🌟
eBay offers great market prices but beware of scams, especially on high-value items, and remember, fees add up! 💰
For highly valuable Pokémon items, in-person sales can prevent scams and disputes. Trust your gut! 🔒
Key Takeaways
Facebook Marketplace is great for eliminating shipping costs and selling without fees, but beware of no-shows and time wasted in communication. 🤔
Selling to LGS or LCS avoids shipping and scams, though they may offer lower cash percentages, so shop around for the best offer. 💸
TCG Player can offer good market value but the creator lacks personal experience with it, leaving unknown challenges. 🤷
eBay can fetch top market prices, but high fees and potential scams on high-value items are significant downsides. 🚫
For high-value items, consider selling in person to avoid scams and ensure smoother transactions.🤝
Overview
The creator dives into a detailed comparison of different platforms where you can sell your Pokémon sealed products. First up is Facebook Marketplace, where the lack of shipping fees and sturdy transaction setup shine, but flakes and no-shows can dampen the experience more than rainy days slow down Pikachu's Thunderbolt.
Next, Local Game Stores offer a safe, hassle-free environment without shipping concerns, though their financial favoritism rarely extends beyond 60% cash value. Better like bargaining, because each store is a playfield with varying rewards.
Lastly, online juggernauts TCG Player and eBay take the stage, with TCG offering elusive street cred to the uninitiated and eBay sweet-talking top dollar potential despite its hefty 14% fee and scammer swarm. Would you risk facing Team Rocket in cyberspace?
Chapters
00:00 - 00:30: Introduction The chapter titled 'Introduction' begins with the speaker explaining that the video will be longer than usual and is filmed in their closet. They plan to discuss the pros and cons of selling Pokemon sealed products in various places, specifically naming four platforms: Facebook Marketplace, local game stores (LGS's), local card stores (LCSS), TCG Player, and eBay. The speaker intends to outline the advantages and disadvantages of each platform, starting with Facebook Marketplace.
00:30 - 01:00: Pros of Selling on Facebook Marketplace The chapter discusses the benefits of selling on Facebook Marketplace, particularly highlighting the elimination of shipping costs. This is especially advantageous when selling bulky items like a Charizard UPC or collection boxes. The absence of shipping means sellers do not have to worry about the box getting lost or the contents being damaged due to poor handling. Overall, eliminating shipping presents a significant advantage for sellers.
02:00 - 04:00: Cons of Selling on Facebook Marketplace The chapter titled 'Cons of Selling on Facebook Marketplace' discusses some advantages, such as not having to worry about shipping and no fees for local sales. This means if you agree on a price like $85 for an item, you will receive that amount unless further negotiation happens in person. However, a notable disadvantage mentioned is the potential to get scammed, although not specifically on the product.
04:30 - 06:30: Pros and Cons of Selling to Local Game Stores (LGS) and Local Card Stores (LCS) This chapter discusses the potential risks and benefits of selling items through local game stores (LGS), local card stores (LCS), and online platforms like Facebook Marketplace using payment methods such as PayPal or Venmo. It highlights the importance of understanding possible scams and how to recognize fake cash transactions. Sellers are advised to research the safest methods to handle money transactions, especially if they are inexperienced in face-to-face sales.
06:30 - 07:30: Pros and Cons of Selling on TCGPlayer One of the pros of selling on TCGPlayer is that you can avoid being scammed with the product itself. When meeting in person, the buyer can inspect the item right then and there, assuring its condition, such as a sealed booster box being sealed without damage. This in-person transaction eliminates the risk of online disputes that can arise from claims of damage during shipping or that the product doesn't match its description.
07:30 - 10:30: Pros and Cons of Selling on eBay This chapter discusses the advantages and disadvantages of selling on eBay and Facebook Marketplace. While people can quickly list items and reach a broad audience on these platforms, a significant drawback highlighted is the potential waste of time during the messaging process, especially on Facebook Marketplace. The author notes that some buyers may engage in prolonged discussions and agree on meeting details, only to not show up at the agreed-upon time and location, causing inconvenience to the seller.
10:30 - 11:30: Conclusion The chapter concludes with a warning about the potential downsides of making time commitments with others who may not follow through on their promises. It suggests that before meeting up with someone, it's wise to confirm the plans to avoid wasting time. The text acknowledges that non-responsive behavior from the other party can be frustrating and points to the limitations of engaging only with people in certain areas.
Pokemon Investing: Where Should You Sell Your Sealed Products? Transcription
00:00 - 00:30 hey guys today I'm back in my closet and it's going to be a little bit of a longer video today so just stay with me because I wanted to go over the pros and cons of selling your Pokemon seal product at different places so today I'm naming four different places um there's definitely some other places you can sell um from but um I'm just going to uh name Facebook Marketplace lgs's and lcss TCG player and eBay so let's start with Facebook Marketplace and I'm going to name the pros and cons um for each and I'm going to do the first so the pros of
00:30 - 01:00 selling at Facebook Marketplace is that you eliminate shipping so eliminating shipping obviously you don't have to pay for shipping which is great especially when you're selling something bulky like a Charizard UPC or just like a collection box or whatever um you just don't have to pay the shipping cost which is good um also uh you don't have to worry about you know it the Box getting lost in shipping and you don't also have to worry about um you know the product getting uh damaged inside the box if they like I don't know handle it terribly um so that's defin definitely a
01:00 - 01:30 like big relief of tension not having to worry about the shipping um another Pro is that there's no fees on selling on Faceook Marketplace so if you sell locally and you agree on a price like $85 let's say you agree to sell like a Charizard UPC you're going to get $85 unless you know they try to negotiate with you in person um but other than that you're getting the $85 um so another thing that I guess is a pro but you got to there you can get scammed but you can't get scammed on the product so what I mean by that is okay
01:30 - 02:00 if you sell something and you know you sell through um Facebook Marketplace and uh they uh pay you by I don't know PayPal or venmo there are probably ways they can scam you with that so you kind of have to know how to do it in a way where you won't get scammed with the money um it's not that hard but you definitely want to do some research if you've never sold in person before and you know done that sort of thing with venmo or PayPal or you kind of have to also maybe wor about fake cash and stuff but I mean that's a little bit easier to um distinguish so you can't you can get
02:00 - 02:30 scammed with the money part but you can't get scammed with the product and what I mean by that is let's say you're selling a I don't know seal booster box um you don't have to worry about them claiming that it's not sealed or that the box is damaged because you're right in front of them so if they look at the box and it's good then you know obviously you know you don't have to worry about them trying to say that you know it's not what it is because if you were to sell you know something on in like online and it goes through shipping or whatever and they receive it um it's kind of hard to argue whatever that you know the box came perfect condition or
02:30 - 03:00 whatever um but anyways those are the pros uh there's definitely some cons though um selling a Facebook Marketplace a big con that I've realized with um selling on there is that you can waste a lot of time messaging people um people could message you for a couple days and um especially if they're slow at responding and um let's say you talk to them for a few days and you agree to meet up at a certain place and time and that day comes and um they just don't show up um I've had it where people people literally have agreed at a time
03:00 - 03:30 and when the time comes ask him oh are you still like are we still set for this time and said oh no sorry I'm not interested anymore and they didn't even tell me in advance so you might have to put something aside to like make time to meet up with them and they might just cancel it so make sure before you actually go to the spot and meet with them to message them and make sure that the time is still good and obviously if they don't respond to you just don't meet up um but definitely you can wait a lot of time messaging people um and yeah it kind of sucks um another uh con is that you're kind of limited to the area
03:30 - 04:00 you're selling at because when you're selling locally obviously you only want to drive so far to sell something so whatever area you're in you're kind of limited to that um especially you know if you're living in an area kind of in the middle of nowhere or where Pokemon might not be very popular um you're going to have a tough time selling your stuff in person so that definitely sucks is that you're limited but um yeah um another con is that um you know you can't always sell stuff in person for market price um because people aren't going to like buy something market price
04:00 - 04:30 in person when they can literally go online and buy it so it just does make a lot of sense so you will usually have to sell for a little bit less than market price for it to actually sell but then again you don't have to pay for fees so it kind of sometimes averages out um yeah that's face the marketplace um definitely a good option if you can sell there because it just it's very it's just very easy um but there are some cons but if you can sell on P Marketplace try um next let's go to the LGs and lcss I have experiened selling to an LCS
04:30 - 05:00 and um I've caught up other like lgs's and stuff and um yeah so I can kind of give you my experience also for this one um so let's start off with the pros so the pros is pretty similar to Faceook Marketplace because they're both in person um you don't have to pay for shipping so all the stuff I said applies um what I said with Facebook Marketplace um there's no fees like I said with Facebook Marketplace um you can't really get scammed especially with LGS and lcss um it's a little bit easier to not get scammed um and also I guess another Pro
05:00 - 05:30 is that you don't waste time like Facebook Marketplace messaging back and forth you kind of just get whatever they say you're going to um they're going to give you and that's it um but definitely selling there even though there are those Pros with Facebook Marketplace they're similar um they definitely a lot of cons though um and there's basically only one big one is that they give you a terrible percentage a lot of the time um usually it's 50 to 60% cash um it could be less depending on where um I don't know what store you're um calling up um
05:30 - 06:00 definitely uh call um more than one store because uh there could be better um stores out there where they'll give you more money for whatever U but definitely uh they will kind of scam you on the percentages of uh whatever the market price is um I've been lucky where I've sold to an LCS that they actually give decent percentages all the way up to like 80% um depending what it is for cash so I'm kind of Lucky cuz I've sold stuff there and it's been kind of easy to do it that way um but other than that
06:00 - 06:30 most of the lgs's and lcss will kind of give you a pretty low um you know value for whatever or they'll just barely give you anything at that point it's not even worth selling to them um so definitely that's a big con and that pretty much is the only con um so now we're going to move on to the online websites so let's start with TCG player honestly I have no experience and you might be asking why do I put it on here it's just because it's very popular um but I have no experience selling on TCG player um I
06:30 - 07:00 guess a pro could be um like I don't know you can get like good market value um because it's online and people are willing to pay that um and I guess it has a lot of traction too because people use TCC player very often um but that's kind of all I can say for the pros cuz I've never sold on there and for the cons um I don't know maybe it's harder like I've never tried selling them there for one reason I just feel like it might be harder to um just start new like if you have zero like reviews on your um account or whatever ever I just feel
07:00 - 07:30 like it's harder to sell it on TG player as a new person but I've never sold in there personally so I can't really say but that's just how I feel but I kind of have to skip over TCG player even though I included it because I don't have any experience so I can't give you a really good like I guess um review about that um but lastly is eBay now I have pretty good experience on eBay with Pokemon and other things so let's start off with the pros so the pros about eBay is that you can usually get like the top market price for things and maybe even a little bit more if it's like very popular um so
07:30 - 08:00 let's let me just give you example let's say I wanted to sell I don't know um this like box right here these boxes are around like $350 um I can usually get 350 or maybe a little bit more um obviously vintage stuff is a little bit maybe that's not a good example because those are a little bit harder to sell but I don't know like a booster box let's say this was evolving skies I could get like top dollar amount um on eBay selling um so that's definitely good uh another good thing about eBay is that you know
08:00 - 08:30 obviously if you're going to get a lot of um or you're going to get top dollar market value um you get a lot of traction on there so combining you know getting top market value or top market price and you know getting most traction it usually is pretty quick to sell those things that are pretty like hot on the market um and another Pro is that um eBay has pretty much like I would say the best Protections in terms of like scamming and whatever but the problem is that they usually side with the um buyer not the seller um unless you have a ton of reviews or whatever it might be a
08:30 - 09:00 little bit easier but um you definitely can um get kind of scammed but they do have protections and I think they're one of the better ones out there cuz I wouldn't sell like online like through Facebook or something where you can ship through cuz I think that's I wouldn't even go there um but selling on eBay though there are some cons though even though you can get the most money and it's easier to sell cuz you know there's a lot of traction there there's some bad stuff um one being that you can get scammed um and like kind of like what I said with the um you know with the whole
09:00 - 09:30 uh what was I say the protections sometimes the protections don't even help because they'll decide with the um buyer so you can definitely get scammed especially I want to say this especially with more higher value items um so with like vintage items like some of these boxes down here that are worth like in the hundreds like 300s like 200s um you definitely can get scammed because you know people are more enticed to want to scam you when something's worth more money um so that's one thing um honestly I'm
09:30 - 10:00 willing to sell something like that like vintage in person and take a little bit less profits just to like avoid that kind of like air of like you know getting scammed so um that's just my opinion if you're selling something this expensive try to sell in person first cuz definitely that will kind of avoid trying to get scammed um and also there's fees with eBay um also there's TCG player there's fees but um I don't sell a TCG player like I said but but um on eBay I think it's around 14% um and
10:00 - 10:30 what kind of sucks is that okay let's say I sell this Charizard UPC for $100 and it's $10 shipping that I added um you'll get tax for the whole or not tax but you'll get fees 14% for $110 not $100 they do give uh or they do um charge fees for the shipping too which kind of sucks um so you have to take that into account with whatever you're trying to get out of um selling it and I guess another con with um eBay is obviously you have to ship it um unlike
10:30 - 11:00 in person you have to worry about you know it getting damaged or whatever um and yeah those are kind of all the things I had uh or all the pros and cons that I have for all these different for marketplaces um there's probably some I missed but um yeah that's all I had to say uh hope you guys enjoy this video uh it was a little bit longer it's like I don't know we're at like 11 minutes now um but yeah if you made it all the way to the end of this video thank you for watching I know it's longer and um I kind of like this style where I kind of just you know have my camera here and I
11:00 - 11:30 just kind of touch stuff and you guys can see my boxes and stuff I know this might get a little bit boring so tell me if you guys want me to integrate more of the computer videos I've made like a couple in the past um but definitely I will try to change up the scenery because yeah this closet might be getting kind of boring and I know I'm kind of rocking back and forth here I know some of you guys have complained about me moving my camera too much so sorry about that um but yeah that's the end of this video hope you guys enjoyed and I'll see you on the next one
