            • 01:00 - 01:30 do at and what's your role with the This Global Bal in Global Engineering so I'm uh Professor atal sub um I am in charge of uh managing and developing all the bachelor programs uh since we have several Bachelor programs with different objectives different uh people coming from different countries um it's quite quite
            • 01:30 - 02:00 new position at Central superx because we developed these programs two years ago uh so it's a a new position and we have very large objectives to develop new programs to welcome students from all around the world so it's uh it's quite very challenging and and very motivating position yeah this is the this is very uh very exciting to see these new programs U um appearing um so
            • 02:00 - 02:30 could you introduce us to S as an institution historically where it come from um did you always offer B degrees is it new and what type of undergraduate uh degree do you offer because as at any way we focus on undergraduate U studies yeah has a very long long story uh it comes from institution that uh are two centuries uh old uh in France engineering institution work created at
            • 02:30 - 03:00 the beginning of the 19th century uh really with the DNA of providing um Engineers for industry uh we had school providing Engineers for a public institutions but we were created to uh to train students to become engineering companies in order to manage factories to develop new technologies so we we were called Central par then Super for
            • 03:00 - 03:30 all the the all the topics linked to Energy electrical energy and then we merg these two institution to become Central super that's why we have this the stuns and we used to be really a graduate school we used to have only graduate programs uh this is the way we train Engineers uh in France and we started undergraduate program uh just a
            • 03:30 - 04:00 couple of years ago uh and at this time we also created a new institution called University parisle and this is really a strong strength we we have in in central super is we are part of university Paris we are located south to Paris 20 kilom South to Paris and we are the engineering school of the University Paris so now we have all the programs from Bachelors we have Master programs
            • 04:00 - 04:30 we have engineer degrees and we have also Executive Education so now we within Paris SLE we are really in the heart of the University uh we share the same buildings than the the presidency of the university and we have all the programs uh in engineering from Bachelor to Executive Education yeah that that's very exciting to see these all these schools kind of coming together under the same institution because in term of global visibility for ranking Etc I

            • 05:30 - 06:00 we we have at Cal super we have a diploma The Bachelor with the the accreditation of the of the ministry and we have different tracks to get these this depla so for now the the main track is this Global Engineering program and in this program we we delivered two diplomas the central suc diploma and The Bachelor of engineering from Meg so it's really a join programs

            • 06:30 - 07:00 stone to do potentially something else that's really a change of uh of mindset in France uh really we we have now to think as a bachelor has its it's common at the international level so uh it's not a lense it's not an engineer degree it's really a bachelor that's why we wanted to develop this program with an international institution MH really to be uh on this level and on this
            • 07:00 - 07:30 a uh really common idea of what is a bachelor so it's it's really like you have a bachelor of of Magill so it means that at the end you can go to work you have really strong Prof professionalization you have strong skills to work to join what the the company you want uh in any place uh around the world but you you can also pursue your studies with different Masters and one of the possibility is to come back uh to the
            • 07:30 - 08:00 engineering degree okay and become an engineer so it's really an undergraduate program after that you can go to work or you can choose one specialization uh in a master you can also uh choose to uh to to have a master not in engineering it's very interesting to have four years of engineering after four years you have very good level in engineering you have strong skills in this domain and it's very interesting to
            • 08:00 - 08:30 have an additional uh diploma the Master Level like an MBA like in economics uh we have students wanted to go in architecture in the so after the bachelor you can do um whatever you want that's really um very interesting I don't think we will have so much students uh wanted to to get the engineer degree uh it's something quite different very well known in friends but
            • 08:30 - 09:00 it's really only for friends so we we we have the possibility to to have the engineer degree uh we can uh you you can complete engineer studies uh two years after the The Bachelor so it means that you can enter the the the the curriculum the engineer curriculum and you spend two years in this curriculum to become engineer so it's like and M two years of Master
            • 09:00 - 09:30 after your Bachelor how does it work in Quebec to get the title of engineer so after the bachelor from Mill if they do the two plus two with the your program uh would that give them in Quebec um like a the title of engineer or would they also have there to do an extra year no you know in in Quebec it's not automatic it's not engineer is not a diploma it's a it's something it's a it's it's a place you have to apply in add to your to your diploma so with this
            • 09:30 - 10:00 bachelor you have all the credits to apply to the orderer in uh in a Quebec okay so you have a professional experience you you have internships and you have the credits uh to apply to to this title of engineer okay so it's really like any other Bachelor of Engineering in Mel there is no specific it's the same recognition at the
            • 10:00 - 10:30 as if they did the four years or the three years in Mill and as as any program in at Mill you can have uh really just a change in in the number of credits depending on the specialization you have if you choose to have an entrepreneurship stream at my you may miss one or two credits so it it's it's really comeon to all the students from me and so can you explain to us a little bit what um what do students do when
            • 10:30 - 11:00 they get to why is this program different from The Bachelor do it going straight to Mill or engineering that's an option for our students why would they choose this double degree uh that potentially is adding an extra year for them um what what's the I want to say pre value uh that that they be add add on benefits um from this program I think it's well uh explained uh in the name we
            • 11:00 - 11:30 choose the Global Engineering because uh Global mean obviously International so it means that you have a bachelor spending times uh at two different places but also Global mean that you have a larger Spectra of knowledge and this is one of the originality of this bachelor compared to the other Bachelor at Mill or in most of the university around the world is that you do not choose your specialization
            • 11:30 - 12:00 from year one uh when you enter m in any other program you have to choose to do mechanical engineering electrical engineering computer science here on this on this bachelor during the two First Years in Paris all the W cour is doing exactly the same classes so all the courses are the same they are together in class and there is no choice of specialization so uh during the the first two years in Paris we we we really
            • 12:00 - 12:30 teach a strong Basics all the basics to become engineer whatever the domain you will work or or whatever the disciplines you want to uh to to dive in so it means that during the two first years you have really large Spectra of courses you have obviously strong basis in math and physics uh for those who know the the class preparat we cover almost the same program uh the same uh fundamental
            • 12:30 - 13:00 knowledge and topics you have to know to become an engineer you have different part of physics you do mechanical you do electrical uh you do a little bit of waves Optics electromagnetism so you cover a large Spectra of of basic knowledge in math and physics but you also have courses like biology like economics like Compu um company organization so it's it's really what
            • 13:00 - 13:30 the the first originality of this program is that you have large number of courses and you do not choose the specialization and after two years when you go to Montreal at this time you choose the stream you want to go uh in and the stream you want to to to specialize in in so this is really uh the two main difference is that from day one you know exactly what will be uh the the International Exchange you
            • 13:30 - 14:00 will have and you have guaranteed to go to Montreal and to have this true experience and during the two First Years you we will not ask you to choose you will discover all the fields of of engineering and are you also guaranteed to be able to access the the engineering specialty you want once you get into Mill or is it there are certain number of place and yeah there there are a limited number of Place uh and and this is really if you
            • 14:00 - 14:30 know what you want to do uh as specialization you have to go there directly okay this is really the idea is that if you know from year one that you want to become a mechanical engineers you have to apply to mechanical engineering uh the idea for us is that you have this general education during the two first herei and at the end no matter the stream you want okay it means that going to
            • 14:30 - 15:00 electrical to you going to bioengineering should be almost the same thing for you so there is no guarantee there are most large number of places but typically on this year we have three or four students that could not go to the the stream they want okay among 80 80 students yeah so that was my next question so it's about 80 students per cohort yep now it's 80 students who will go a little bit
            • 15:00 - 15:30 during the the coming years but right now we have two cohorts of 80 students and so the first course is now Shing the streams to to go to Montreal in September and so at some points the the the grades are considered to choose the the the Stream So we cannot guarantee the stream if if the whole Court want to go in the same stream canot do that so there is no guarantee uh but we have a testimony of students
            • 15:30 - 16:00 uh saying that when they enter the program they wanted to go to mechanical engineering and since they have all this bunch of different courses they discovered different topics of engineering and they moved to uh other stream and this is really the idea if you come to this program with uh an idea of exactly what you want to do is not the good place for you and no level of French is required whatsoever no no absolutely not uh at the end you should
            • 16:00 - 16:30 have a B2 LEL so you have courses in of French during the the the curriculum but to enter the program there is no French needed at all and could you so you compared a little bit to two years at calc with the the prepa system um there's lots of different experiences at the undergraduate level sometimes it's very selective to get in the program but the goal after that is for 100% of the students students to graduate and to go
            • 16:30 - 17:00 to the end sometimes it's easier to get in but then you will have a lot of students that will be cut out of the program because they don't make it prepa is a system where you have that pressure of you know the the concour and and not knowing where you're going to end up so how would you describe the uh the intensity of the workload and the the risk or uh you know um to to make it through uh in this program we are very selective at the entrance and really our purpose is is to uh to bring everybody
            • 17:00 - 17:30 at there so the this is one of the reputation of Mel meel and we share exactly the same philosophy we want that everybody entering the program to graduate uh after four years so there are accidents that there are there are people that want to change our mind there are a lot of but the a is really that 95 96% of the of the students uh go uh graduate
            • 17:30 - 18:00 from from the program it's not it doesn't mean it's easy uh because it it's quite demanding we have all very often the question about the little in math in in physics typically most of the students uh we selected had a position in class preparat okay so it's it's really the same level for the the French Bala it's almost the same level uh we we we take only students with with a very good
            • 18:00 - 18:30 level in math and physics because if if we we want them to discover all the domain of of engineering and it's quite demanding okay it's it remains mathematics teach has a French used to do uh so it's uh it's really demanding and and at the end there are a lot of different topics you have to discover so you have to get the ability to switch from one domain to the other discover
            • 18:30 - 19:00 electrical then go back to automatics and so it's it's quite demanding but compared to classa what is changing is really the the the pedagogy uh we have we are not preparing a competitive exam uh we have different size of uh of class we can split we have modalities to teach that are quite different uh which why also to have more let's say applied and handson
            • 19:00 - 19:30 experience of engineering we do not have only theoretical classes with a written exam at the end from the the just after a couple of weeks you you start during presentation during team project uh and and dealing with companies this is also one very important uh part of the of the program uh we we are well known for all the
            • 19:30 - 20:00 links we have with uh companies and we want that the students be in touch with companies during the curriculum so uh we move the cohort within companies the engineers from company are coming they teach to the students they give they come they come with their their problems they explain what are the challenges in in in their field so there are a lot of uh times where you can exchange also with company is we have obviously
            • 20:00 - 20:30 internships so all these elements are quite different from classa and we know that even if the the Lael uh and the the the content of the courses are the same the way we teach and the goal are quite different thank you very much for clarifying that very very helpful um and so the what does it look like to be a student um there do you does everyone leave on on campus you have very I'm assuming international student
            • 20:30 - 21:00 population so maybe that would be my first question so what what does it look like that group of 80 students where are they coming from is it mostly French students or is there a specific nationality that's kind of dominant or where are they coming from and then what's the campus kind of vibe if you come from the other side of the world and you end up uh so what is quite new for engineering studies is that we have 46% of female students this is one of the great personality that's quite new also for for Central sub we welcome
            • 21:00 - 21:30 students from right now 25 different countries uh meaning that uh students have all the high school abroad so they they spend a lot of times in different countries around the world um and we have around 30 different nationalities so uh but we have a lot of people with double nationality uh usually a European one and an Asian or
            • 21:30 - 22:00 American one uh so a lot of people speaking different languages with uh an international experience they spend they lived many years abroad uh they studied abroad so they have they have this International experience so we we don't think too much about nationality uh we look at the the kind of diploma the the
            • 22:00 - 22:30 students prepared or have from the from high school so we have French boria we have European Bia International Balia a level high school from Canada so we have all this degree uh and we have people coming from really large number of places around the world so we prefer think uh this way and we we we should have around 60% of students students having the French nationality but for
            • 22:30 - 23:00 most of of them it's the first time they come in France to start the program so the national doesn't mean a lot of things for for for us so obviously we we offer housing on campus so we have rooms dedicated for bachelor students uh usually there this is a share bedroom share apartment uh with three or four bedrooms uh uh and it's located 100 meter from
            • 23:00 - 23:30 the main building on campus and and we are really the on the heart of the of the campus it means that we have all schools around we have also uh other students from physics from biology from from the University Paris so it's it's a mix and all the bachelor students are really mixed with the engineers it's the same location same classrooms uh we also instructors from
            • 23:30 - 24:00 The Bachelor programs to the engineers so there is really uh everybody is sharing the same uh the same place so now let's talk a bit about um the admission the application um process uh so how does it work because uh it changed a little bit from last year I don't know if it might still change a bit but this year how does it work and what are the different scenarios um do you have to apply through parkour SHP in some scenarios
            • 24:00 - 24:30 are you allowed to apply outside of Parkour uh if you want um how does the how does it work for students that we want to to apply uh you you never have to apply through parp uh it's a possibility uh we have usually 10 slots available on parit only so it means that most of the people are entering the program through the the the application process uh starting in October and then uh going to to to March okay so
            • 24:30 - 25:00 it's it's complex because we have to uh to share data with Canada and we have strong regulation about personal data so our dream was to be able to have only one platform located on one location for everybody but we could not do that so everybody has to apply twice one on Central superx platform and one on megel
            • 25:00 - 25:30 website so that everybody provides its data on each country with the good agreements to to share the data so we have really big issue with the with the data uh we also have two different schedule between megel and Cal superc because megel is stopping all the application mid January okay because they need a lot of time to get the visa to go to uh study
            • 25:30 - 26:00 in Canada so they close very early the process so that they are almost sure that all the the the students can come uh in September to start the the class so here for the program uh if you go to the magil website right now at this date you cannot apply anymore for the program however you can still apply on S websites and we will transfer the file to uh Mill so you have until
            • 26:00 - 26:30 the 1 of March to apply on S super platform to uh to this program even if uh student miss the the me Guild deadline it will be okay we consider yeah it will be okay and megel will just open the the platform for each students who already applied on C okay and then so then you can they when they apply to you then they're going to open them access to to do that okay but any point
            • 26:30 - 27:00 if any students is in touch with one or the other institution we are sharing a lot of information we cannot share the the the documents yeah we don't want to share the data between the two countries but we know we can share the number of of applicants we share the the the name to be sure that we have the uh the the the dossier on on each platform so we have to manage this uh regulation about data but it works okay so you you can
            • 27:00 - 27:30 still apply on the central super website and uh it's it's quite easy for us to to exchange and discuss in any case the platform will close at beginning of March because after that we have the parkour process and we didn't want to interfere between the two process so at the end of February you cannot apply anymore on platforms and if you want to apply you have to go to Parker soup but
            • 27:30 - 28:00 it clear that we have only 10 slots available of Parker Soup for the applicants who discovered the program lately or hesitated before you still have the parkour sh possibility after that okay that's very clear thank you for clarifying that very very I know I know it's not really clear not so easy we are really struggling with rules with PCO soup with the Canadian regulations so we try to make it as easy as possible but we know it's

            • 30:30 - 31:00 options it's a good student so we can discuss and in any case we have really uh double evaluation each institution is doing the evaluation with share criteria with its own criteria and then if the two institutions agree we have the we can admit the the the students so it's really we we didn't CH choose one way or the other we do both and we share the
            • 31:00 - 31:30 results and it happens that we disagree at times but we have uh elements so it means that on these programs we accepted students that usually M Gil would not have accept because we had good reason and they said okay we we take these students and on the other way there are students uh especially students from abroad we didn't know so much the system the high school and Mel said okay this one is good even for us it looks not not

            • 42:30 - 43:00 program and typically if you look at the the grades you will see that bioengineering needs higher grades than mining for example it's because there are much more application to bioengineering than on mining so it's much more demanding so logically the the the the admit students with the higher grades so it's it's much more a consequence of the number of application
