OCC’s AI guide is for examiners

By OpenTools Team

A supervisory resource carries no new bank requirements.

Audience

The OCC’s November 4 bulletin presents an examiner resource without new bank expectations or enforceable standards. Banks are not expected to use the framework to assess their AI practices.1

Review

Supervision should reflect materiality, consequences, transferred agency and human oversight. For community banks, examiners should tailor work to size, complexity and risk profile. The bulletin rejects a separate AI risk category or required separate risk appetite.1 This scope limit does not remove existing obligations.
