Sonos 27voice needs early access approval

App 27.3 lists the assistant; switching replaces Classic across your system and sends activated 27voice commands to the cloud.

App version and rollout timing

Sonos’s November 3 release notes list app version 27.3 and describe 27voice as arriving in Fall 2026. That is a seasonal availability statement, rather than a dated promise that every updated system can immediately use the assistant. Sonos also warns that app releases and features can roll out over days or weeks.

For owners checking the installed software, Sonos lists Android build 91.00.33 and iOS build 91.00.41 under version 27.3. Those numbers identify the app release; they do not certify acceptance into the voice beta.

Approval and system migration

The setup guide restricts early access to US customers using US‑English. Requests are first come, first served, without guaranteed entry. “You’re on the list” confirms a request; approval changes the tile to “Set up Sonos 27voice”. A microphone‑equipped Sonos product is required.

The switch applies to the whole system: Classic Sonos Voice Control and 27voice cannot coexist. Sonos documents upgrades and downgrades.

What the cloud assistant changes

According to Sonos’s control documentation, 27voice accepts natural‑language requests for music, speaker grouping and library management on supported services. Its scope also extends to timers, weather, supported smart‑home controls and general questions. Those broader requests help explain what owners are considering when they weigh a switch from their existing music controls.

27voice needs an internet connection and will not function offline. The documentation describes global availability after early access, still supporting US‑English, but gives no date for that next stage. Owners outside the United States therefore have a future rollout statement, rather than a confirmed local enrollment opportunity. These are Sonos’s documented capabilities and plans; this article does not report a speaker test.

Local buffering and cloud commands

The processing difference is explicit in Sonos’s privacy statement. Classic processes command audio on the product. That does not mean every associated datum stays there: Sonos describes cloud processing for some in‑app activity, alongside collection of registration and usage information.

For 27voice, Sonos says wake‑word activation is followed by sending commands to its cloud AI infrastructure. The notice lists voice recordings, transcripts, inferred command intent, device identifiers and command metadata. It separately describes local buffering while listening for a wake word; that is distinct from uploading an activated command.
