Infrastructure for software that thinks

Rivet is an open-source infrastructure company building Rivet Actors, a stateful compute primitive for AI agents, collaborative apps, realtime applications, and durable execution. The current Rivet site positions Actors as one actor per agent, session, user, or tenant, with in-memory state, sleep-when-idle behavior, WebSockets, workflows, queues, scheduling, and deployment options across Rivet Cloud, private VPCs, or air-gapped environments. Rivet started in the multiplayer infrastructure market and its Y Combinator profile describes the company as founded in 2022, YC Winter 2023, active, open source, and based in San Francisco. The older product story focused on managed game servers, matchmaking, DDoS mitigation, autoscaling, deploys, and operational tools for game teams. The current product has shifted that stateful backend work toward agent infrastructure and software that needs long-lived state. For builders, Rivet matters because agent systems often need more than a stateless API call. They need memory, queues, realtime streams, scheduled work, and observable state that can survive idle periods. Rivet Actors provide a way to model those units directly inside Node.js, Bun, Deno, and related JavaScript/TypeScript stacks without forcing every team to operate its own backend orchestration layer. OpenTools created this organization record as a dependency for Rivet-related tool and infrastructure pages. Source material reviewed during this run included rivet.gg/rivet.dev, the rivet-dev GitHub repository, and the Y Combinator company profile.
