How To Shoot A Basketball Perfectly (FIND YOUR PROPER SHOOTING FORM!) Transcription
00:00 - 00:30 hey what's up yaz coach rock here from revenge basketball and in today's video i wanted to address a question that we get a lot here on this channel it's about shooting and it's about where should you pretty much place the ball or i like to call it the shot path but it's where should this path be basically should you have the ball in front of your face when you shoot or should it be to the side of your face when you shoot so in today's video i'm going to break this down so that you know the best spot for you to be shooting from
00:30 - 01:00 [Music] now i'll start this by saying when it comes to anything related to shooting form which this is related to shooting form it's all about comfort so just because somebody might feel better shooting from here it doesn't mean you will and just because somebody might feel better shooting from here it doesn't mean you will and even some people even if they feel more comfortable shooting from here it doesn't mean you will so what you need
01:00 - 01:30 to do is you need to find the best spot for you where should you be shooting from now when you're trying to figure this out there are really two simple exercises i like to put my players through to help them figure this out alright the first one is basically you can stand at the foul line or you can move up but you're just shooting one-handed and the reason we're doing that is because since you don't have this other hand to help you you have to shoot from where it feels
01:30 - 02:00 most comfortable you have to shoot from where you feel like you have the most control and essentially that's what you want to do when you shoot even if i have another hand here i still want to shoot from wherever i feel i have the most control of the ball because that's going to allow me to have a fluid shot have the same shot every time and just have a more consistent form every time i shoot so that's the first thing is where do you feel most comfortable when you're shooting one-handed is it from the side
02:00 - 02:30 of your face is it from like right here or is it from i wouldn't even recommend trying from here but you can't really go wrong with here or here now one thing you will notice is that this has a lot to do with your stance when you shoot because essentially what your body is trying to do is it's trying to align your shoulder or your shooting arm with the basket so you might see players that stand more you know straight in front of the basket like this square with the basket they'll
02:30 - 03:00 have a shot more to the side because essentially they're trying to align this elbow with the basket so other people like many of the great shooters in the nba they have their feet at an angle so when you have your feet at an angle if you go like this your elbow isn't really aligned so it's when they're in front of when they shoot in front of their face is where their elbow is more aligned now the reason why you'll see most players shoot with the ball in front of
03:00 - 03:30 their face is because they angle their feet when they shoot very rarely if ever we see a player square to the basket and shoot in front of his face because again like i said it's all about having that elbow aligned with the basket so if i'm helping a player from scratch i always recommend they turn their feet a little when they shoot it's just been proven to be more effective to help you have a more consistent shot help you get more power from your shot help you have more balance steph curry shoots like that i
03:30 - 04:00 mean basically all the best shooters in the nba especially nowadays they shoot like that with a slight turn to their feet which gives them the ability to have their elbow right here and they have the ball kind of more in front of their face so that's the first that's the first thing i'll recommend is figure out which one feels more comfortable for you and really it's going to be all based on your stance and maybe the free throw isn't the best example of where to start because i know
04:00 - 04:30 a lot of players that shoot angled but then they come to the foul line and they shoot square and then they wonder why they don't shoot well from the foul lines because the foul line's completely different but i recommend just shoot a regular shot see what your feet look like then when you come to the foul line i don't care what your normal valve shooting stance is change your stance to be how it is that you shoot regular so for me for example i shoot everything with a slight turn in my feet
04:30 - 05:00 then i'm here and then i just do what feels natural up here which is to have the ball in front of my face but again it only feels natural because i shoot with a slight angle in my feet now if i turn here this would probably feel more natural is to have the ball to the side of my head so i hope that makes sense basically front of your face side of your head is all based on your stance if you're square to the basket it'll probably feel more comfortable for you to shoot on the side if you turn your feet it'll feel more
05:00 - 05:30 comfortable probably for you to shoot a little in front of your face so let's look at a live example again if i'm doing it how i shoot a little square i mean a little turn and i turn my feet so that my shoulder is more square to the basket my elbow it's basically aligned with the basket and therefore my hand is perfectly aligned with the basket when i shoot so that felt super comfortable for me
05:30 - 06:00 now let's say i was to square my body to the basket shooting from here doesn't feel as comfortable for me anymore because look my elbow is completely out of alignment with the basket i'm not talking about the ball in my elbow i'm really talking about the basket in the in my elbow so what makes sense for me to do here is turn my bring the ball slightly to the side and then shoot
06:00 - 06:30 [Music] so even that it just didn't feel natural for me because that's not how i shoot so i know for me i shoot best when i shoot with the ball basically in front of my face again it's because i angle my feet so that's the biggest takeaway here once you figure this out then what you want to do is you want to try to replicate this as many times when you are shooting on the court and even in your free throw shooting so again like i said
06:30 - 07:00 what you don't want to get into the mistake is sometimes you're shooting square sometimes you're turning your feet sometimes you're shooting in front of your face sometimes you're shooting to the side of your face you don't you don't want that to happen you want to stay consistent you want to shoot the same shot to the best of your ability i do understand sometimes you might have to fade sometimes you're going to be catching at a weird angle and you may have to do something different but for the most part if you could shoot the same shot every time the more consistent you're going to be the more confident you're going to be so work on this when you are shooting at home alright when
07:00 - 07:30 you're shooting from all different spots on the court work on where are your feet angle where's the basket how are your fing feet angled when in relation to the basket and then whatever happens up here is going to be natural so even though the question is really based on here this answer is based on here so it all works together when you're shooting i hope you found this video helpful if you enjoyed it do me a big favor hit the thumbs up for me comment below let me know what else you need help with last
