    Summary

The video delves into understanding how INTPs can remain motivated by embracing authenticity and avoiding excessive people-pleasing. The creator emphasizes the significance of living in one's truth and following excitement rather than obligations, asserting that this approach leads to greater motivation and fulfillment. They argue that INTPs often struggle with motivation due to societal pressures and fear of disappointing others, but true energy and creativity come from allowing oneself to explore and be guided by genuine curiosity and interest rather than expectations.

      Key Takeaways

      • Embrace Authenticity: Stay true to yourself and don't shy away from being perceived as a 'dick' if it means maintaining your authenticity. 😎
      • Avoid People-Pleasing: INTPs often overcommit to please others, which can drain motivation. Be okay with setting boundaries. 🚫

      • Align with True Self: Understand and prioritize your top cognitive functions—like introverted thinking and extroverted intuition for INTPs—to stay motivated and energized. ⚙️

      Overview

In the quest to stay motivated, INTPs need to focus on authenticity and avoid people-pleasing. The fear of being perceived negatively by others often leads INTPs to overcommit, draining their energy and motivation. By setting boundaries and accepting that it's okay to disappoint people sometimes, INTPs can preserve their energy for what truly matters.

The video encourages INTPs to follow their excitement and act on it without expectation of outcomes. This involves focusing on personal interests and allowing oneself the freedom to explore and experiment. Such an approach not only leads to personal fulfillment but also revives creativity and keeps motivation levels high.

Drawing on the strengths of introverted thinking and extroverted intuition allows INTPs to align more closely with their true selves. When operating from these primary cognitive functions, INTPs find greater ease and flow in their endeavors, ultimately leading to a more invigorating and inspiring life.

            Chapters

            • 00:00 - 00:30: Introduction In the Introduction chapter, the speaker begins with a casual greeting and mentions having several topics to discuss. However, they decide to focus on one topic, 'how to stay motivated as an INTP,' leaving a second topic for later discussion.
            • 00:30 - 01:00: Importance of Motivation for INTPs The chapter discusses the importance of motivation for INTPs. It highlights that motivation is crucial for this personality type, characterized by energetic ideas and a need for understanding. The text begins by expressing the speaker's intention to organize scattered thoughts into a cohesive discussion to understand the significance of motivation in relation to INTPs.
            • 01:00 - 02:30: Biggest Reason for Lack of Motivation The chapter discusses the primary reasons for lack of motivation, focusing specifically on the experiences of ENTPs (Extraverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Perceiving personalities). It highlights that motivation often requires an 'all-in' mindset. The speaker plans to explore the main reasons behind the lack of motivation among individuals, particularly from the perspective of ENTPs, and also suggests that there are keys or strategies that will specifically help ENTPs stay motivated. Overall, it emphasizes understanding personal and psychological traits to comprehend motivation-related challenges.
            • 02:30 - 04:30: Core Energy of INTPs In the chapter titled 'Core Energy of INTPs', the main focus is on the idea that a significant reason for lack of motivation in individuals, particularly INTPs (a Myers-Briggs personality type), is the fear of upsetting others. The speaker suggests that this fear of causing displeasure or conflict is a primary barrier to motivation and goal achievement. This understanding is presented as a personal realization by the speaker, highlighting the depth of influence such fears can have on one's drive and energy.
            • 04:30 - 09:00: Challenges of Extroverted Feeling and Thinking The chapter 'Challenges of Extroverted Feeling and Thinking' explores the struggles associated with sticking to commitments, particularly when they become burdensome. It delves into the pressure and stress of doing something out of obligation, even when it's exhausting or initially unintended. The chapter also references the eight cognitive functions of an INP (Introverted Intuition and Perception), indicating a focus on personality aspects related to extroverted feeling and thinking.
            • 09:00 - 12:30: Radical Authenticity In this chapter titled 'Radical Authenticity,' the speaker emphasizes the importance of being honest and straightforward, even if it means occasionally coming across as inconsiderate or blunt. They discuss the value of communicating openly about timeframes and commitments, suggesting that it is better to be truthful about delays or needs for extensions rather than to promise what cannot realistically be delivered. This approach to authenticity encourages honesty in communication, even if it might not be culturally comfortable.
            • 12:30 - 15:00: Impact of Authenticity on Motivation The chapter begins with the speaker acknowledging a realization about the long-term benefits of authenticity for everyone involved. The speaker hints at having multiple examples to illustrate this point and begins by discussing the reasons behind the truth of this realization.
            • 15:00 - 17:30: Connecting Ideas and Motivation Connecting Ideas and Motivation: The chapter explores how INTPS use introverted thinking as their core energy source. It discusses the development of personal theories and understanding, which forms the basis for perceiving the world. The realization and establishment of this foundational perspective is both energizing and gratifying for INTPS, as it reflects their cognitive process and motivation.
            • 17:30 - 20:00: Purpose and Flow This chapter titled 'Purpose and Flow' explores the concept of extroverted intuition, where one immediately begins to explore various possibilities and theories when presented with a fact or idea. This exploration is described as an energetic process that is independent of others and focuses on what the theory suggests about the world.
            • 20:00 - 22:00: Overcoming Resistance The chapter discusses the challenges of fulfilling obligations and how overcoming resistance entails leveraging one's extroverted feelings. It suggests that one way to push through draining tasks is by focusing on the desire not to upset others, which can motivate individuals to meet deadlines despite resistance.
            • 22:00 - 27:30: Exploration as Lifeblood The chapter titled 'Exploration as Lifeblood' appears to delve into the importance of motivation and self-reflection in the context of decision-making. The speaker expresses a sense of questioning their own motivations and behavior, pondering whether their actions are justified. There's a theme of internal conflict, especially about attending a meeting and the personal motivations behind it. The dialogue seems to explore how often one engages in activities and whether a loss of motivation indicates overdoing something or a lack of genuine interest.
            • 27:30 - 28:30: Conclusion The chapter titled 'Conclusion' discusses the tendency of individuals to engage in people-pleasing behaviors, which can hinder them from being their authentic selves. The speaker reflects on the nature of INTP personalities, often seen as 'mad scientists', who should embrace their true nature rather than conform to others' expectations. The speaker relates personally to this notion and cites Elon Musk as an example of an INTP who thrives by being authentic.

How to Stay Motivated as an INTP #intp Transcription

            • 00:00 - 00:30 hello hello hello hello um I had a number of uh topics that I wanted to go over today but I am now between two and I think the second one should be later the one that has won out is the juicy title how to stay motivated how to stay motivated as an INTP
            • 00:30 - 01:00 um and I think this is actually very important uh for us and I have a number of just ideas flying around in my head so um let's try and pin them all down so we can have a little conversation and figure out what it is um I will first start out by saying that I think the most energetic I p s
            • 01:00 - 01:30 and entps I've seen in the world are are the ones that are just all in on before I go there before I go there I'm going to talk about I think the biggest reason yeah I'm going to start with the biggest reason why you're probably not motivated why I'm usually I'm probably not motivated number one number two is the key to being motivated as an ntp
            • 01:30 - 02:00 um and uh I'll just speak first and then if I really feel like I want to have a visual aid I'll I'll show you but the number one reason why you're probably not motivated and what I've realized for myself is because you are so afraid of pissing people off that's pretty much it I've come to realize that that is the number one
            • 02:00 - 02:30 reason and so if I told someone I was going to do something by someday I absolutely feel like I have to do it by that day even though it's like running my hands through like glass to try and do that um or I'm very tired or uh or I never wanted to do it in the first place I just said it as as a favor um if we look at the the eight functions of an inp
            • 02:30 - 03:00 what you're doing there is I mean I know I know culturally it sounds really bad what I'm saying here like yeah uh basically what I'm saying here is like be okay with being a little being a dick sometimes yeah you said that it was you're going to do tomorrow but you're not going to do it tomorrow you're just going to let them know uh actually I'm not going to do it tomorrow um I probably need like three more days and you you can be honest about how many days it's going to take and
            • 03:00 - 03:30 and this is because um I'm realizing that this is because in the long run this is best for everyone involved um and there are many examples I can have too but let me let me just start let me just start out by talking about why this is true uh
            • 03:30 - 04:00 so if we look at our functions here um what what really is just like the center the core of our energy as intps is introverted thinking our theories like like oh I know this now I know that and then you you establish like this you establish this Foundation of like how to see the world and it's so um energizing and so gratifying to realize that and you
            • 04:00 - 04:30 immediately step into usually you or I'll say I do you step into like oh if that's true then here are like five different other things that are probably true like these are the things that the theory suggests are true about the world and I want to find out you extrovert in extroverted intuition into that um you can hear the energy of that you can hear like that it has nothing to do with anyone uh the only way that you can you
            • 04:30 - 05:00 can like follow through an obligation is uh to step into like like draining functions uh I I generally feel like the way that you're going to do it is with extroverted feeling you're going to be like oh but I have to not piss that person off um so I'm going to uh like just follow through on my deadline today
            • 05:00 - 05:30 or I'm going to go to that uh meeting that I agree to going um I mean like I'm just going to say that I think that if you are not motivated then that means that you're doing this too much I mean sure like like there's a part inside me me right now that that makes me say like am I right like like is it okay to be a dick um
            • 05:30 - 06:00 but I think it's right it's right there in the stack it's right there in the stack uh you should not you should be you should you are probably people pleasing too much and it's keeping you from being authentically uh the mad scientist INTP and I think that's absolutely true for me and I think about the intps that that people admire in the world they're they're thriving I mean Elon Musk I mean
            • 06:00 - 06:30 you say what you want I I I I'm pretty sure he's inp um Bill Gates these people are accused of being dicks all the time and that's fine because their their natural selves as inps is to authentically be kids in the candy store to be mad scientists out in the world I don't care like yeah did I say it was that that that time it's going to it's going to be late I'm sorry I'm having
            • 06:30 - 07:00 too much fun exploring doing my experiments um and in the long run this is good for everyone in the long run this allows an inp to do what they do best and things go way faster I mean I I I personally feel very motivated today and I think you can hear my voice you can compare that to me being like like grueling INTP who just would
            • 07:00 - 07:30 love to like explore something but I just have like this deadline coming up in two months and I'm just out of juice and I'm just slogging along that is going to be the slowest possible way that's that's my theory that person that's if you're a person that's like that right now quit or like be okay with this thing being laate of 3 days
            • 07:30 - 08:00 and do this just like just say like if if I had nothing do what would I do right now and uh maybe you would read a book or uh you would do an experiment and my view is that because this is the authentic path you will find far more motivation uh
            • 08:00 - 08:30 and I mean to continue like like talking about like things that drain us extroverted thinking if I if I want to try an experiment and someone says oh hold on why are you doing that what what outcome do you expect I'm going to authentically say screw you I I don't know I want to do it because I want to do it because it feels like no one has done that enough that's how I can stay energized when I do it if I instead say like oh well I did the the cost benefit
            • 08:30 - 09:00 analysis and uh this is the outcome that we expect then you know I'm just stepping into something that uh will not be energizing they say oh are you thinking about your future like are you are you worried about it and I say nope I'm doing this um and exert sensing like oh like like did you think about what you're wearing today or like did you make sure that it looks nice um
            • 09:00 - 09:30 no and introverted feeling like like like uh this is Ian Malcolm in in in um Jurassic Park you were so busy thinking about whether you could that you didn't you never thought about whether you should and I say um yeah you can think about that you can you can Wonder but I'm just going to explore um
            • 09:30 - 10:00 and yeah I know like I know what how this might sound it might sound uh anathema it might sound like like just it goes completely against what it means to be a good and nice person but I assert that the people that we admire the most are the people that really have gone down the path of radical authenticity if you've ever watched Alex horoi on
            • 10:00 - 10:30 YouTube he's an entj and he just over time has lost all of his friends and because he said like there is a there's a place I'm going and it's so serious for me that I will not tolerate anyone taking me off of that path and um for an ESFJ or something they might be a offended by this and
            • 10:30 - 11:00 scared but the ESFJ is is so happy because they're living their they're living their authentic life the entj this is what makes them fulfilled this is what gives them meaning let them be the [ __ ] that just like all ends on on their goal it's the most fulfilling thing they could do and in the very like okay I mean
            • 11:00 - 11:30 here's another example an isfp feels like they really want to be they really want people to admire their art like like I just want people to see what I see someone who's fe uh might say like oh you're being selfish someone who's te might say oh yeah but where's the money in that what what are you thinking about the outcome of that like uh the isfp can just say
            • 11:30 - 12:00 hey uh think what you want this is where the meaning is I'm going to go this direction and it reminds me very much of bashar's formula I highly recommend looking at bashar's formula where let's see if I can recall it like state it from from memory act on your highest ACT on your highest excitement um to the farthest degree that you can with no expectation of what
            • 12:00 - 12:30 the outcome is uh well you can say you can say that statement really act on your highest in any given moment act on your highest excitement to the farest farthest extent you have with no expectation of your outcome and the way it's stated right there I actually think that that would be the most the most resonant sounding for people with any in their stack
            • 12:30 - 13:00 so when you hear that you might think uh yeah like or you might you might be really um excited by that and you probably are an NP right uh because like no one's no one's telling you that no no one's telling an NP that but I think what we see in the most like actualized NPS out there is they just eventually just give into the call and they go um I'm talking a lot about like ENFP right now where uh they just pack up their
            • 13:00 - 13:30 stuff and they just they go on a road trip and uh the one that I met like they lived on communes and then and then uh they traveled with like an event event event planning company and and they eventually found themselves in Tech sales I mean it's just a um once again a te person would be like that's irresponsible are you thinking about where you're going uh no they're
            • 13:30 - 14:00 not but because it is uh the most energetic path for them it's going to work out well for them because that energy is going to wake up everyone around them and everything around them it'll create so much like you can kind of feel a difference when someone is walking through life engaged and alive or like just completely disengaged
            • 14:00 - 14:30 right so I I'm talking a lot about this um H I think I talked about two two ideas so far uh one is you are probably people pleasing too much and the people pleasing is getting the way of you being activated and the second is uh I talked about all the different functions and I I will specifically go back to talking
            • 14:30 - 15:00 about like the big one that I think is um like the biggest Energizer um I'll say two actually I'm going to talk about my experience right recently uh the two biggest energizers here and if you allow yourself to do them then you will find the energy to do so much is allowing yourself to dig for the principles of what you're doing like really really like and and and allowing yourself to explore
            • 15:00 - 15:30 with zero expectation of outcome um and the example that I I've just recently experienced with this is hold on I uh I talked about this book right last night I I I powered through it and it was full of so many ideas that I'm connecting to so many other things I took I took a lot notes like 8 to 10 uh like little message
            • 15:30 - 16:00 notes and it gave me something to connect to work and how I can talk about it I I talked about it last video so I'm doing that I'm uh I'm realizing where I was being uh unfair um to say it again I was expecting people to INTP with me and they can't um and so once once I can understand that then I can I can get very monopolistic
            • 16:00 - 16:30 about my INTP and I can just walk in and be like all right don't worry about INTP I got all I'll handle all the INTP here um and if even if they don't understand the value of the INTP stuff I'm going to do it anyways because that's going to be like just energizing for me uh it's it's just fascinating to me that that reading a book like there are all these things there's all all these other things
            • 16:30 - 17:00 viewed from a te lens that would be more productive for me to do right now but I really wanted to read this book the title was was uh exciting and the history behind it was exciting I wanted to read the book and by reading the book you can trust your NE you're going to make connections you're like even if it's something that like you think is completely like disconnected from everything you're doing you're going to be like oh that is connected to this is connected to that and just that process
            • 17:00 - 17:30 since that process NE is activated you're going to be very energized and uh you're going to find that flow once again to lead to guide everything else um and I think this this process is also like energy is very emotional too I think I think when someone is optimistic uh they are full of much more like happy
            • 17:30 - 18:00 emotions and so they they just end up doing more uh yeah I I I think um I think that's that's also quite quite a universal thing to say uh about about how to stay motivated and and I guess in a in a if I I speak more abstractly like how to live your
            • 18:00 - 18:30 purpose I think it seems to be quite a an important step to to move towards it discover the resistances around you and do it anyways and essentially like for a for a moment just be like I don't care what anyone says I'm going to do this uh
            • 18:30 - 19:00 and I mean like yeah like I understand like well yeah and so yeah I I I have a current work project I need to get done right but I was actually considering like just giving up on the project because I I I was feeling stuck you know and I was like you know what I'm not going to think about that I'm going to read this book and the book gave me something so
            • 19:00 - 19:30 that's what I want I want to talk about in that direction let's see so so yeah so I I um after that this experience and generally after a lot of these ideas I've been sharing with you I'm very excited to be reading these books because it's such a I find extr intuition such an such an interesting function because it's it's it's bound it's one thing is like
            • 19:30 - 20:00 it's bound to happen it's gonna happen but it's also gonna happen in ways that I cannot predict um where for example like let's imagine that like you're going to you you really want to watch a movie uh for some reason you don't know why and it makes no sense why this movie is going to be important at all but you watch it and you make a connection and that connection energizes like a
            • 20:00 - 20:30 different path and yeah it it was all um as Steve Job said the dots connected looking backwards uh yeah but I think one one idea I really want to point to right now is that for a lot of types for a lot of types the opposite of what
            • 20:30 - 21:00 I'm saying here is what they should do uh you know ni types are have to like just say yeah people are people are telling me about all these different things I want to do but I know what I want to do so I'm going to do that like that's them being an [ __ ] right uh an Fe type is going to be like yeah I like like I'm getting paid really well here it feels like a good career but it doesn't feel like I'm using my I'm
            • 21:00 - 21:30 serving people the way I want and then they quit and like you know they they were they were like the the best employee at the company and the their boss is really disappointed but they had to do it uh you know yeah I'm I'm making many connections I think this is also somewhat what uh Paulo
            • 21:30 - 22:00 quo meant when he was writing the book The Alchemist let me bring up the quote for you and I I'll show it to you and and uh we'll see if there's anything else I want to talk about in this in this topic but
            • 22:00 - 22:30 oh no that's not that's not how it goes that's not quite what it is I guess it is uh what I the way I heard it is when you decide to go to get something then the universe conspires in helping you achieve it and uh spoken from an mbti lens this
            • 22:30 - 23:00 is saying when you stop trying to listen to other people and stop trying to live in their realities and decide to live in yours uh the universe was waiting for you to do it the universe knew uh and maybe like the unconscious self inside you knew that you were not on the right path and as soon as you align everything starts to flow starts to flow um um
            • 23:00 - 23:30 so perhaps that's another way to say it is like you had you you had a kink in the garden hose of yourself and you didn't you didn't notice like like people people were telling you you were doing the right thing but something inside you knew that that you weren't and so you turn and the garden hose and like you turn and it feels like the wrong way because everyone around you disagrees but the garden hose un Kinks and you start to flow and the
            • 23:30 - 24:00 universe feels like it was just waiting for you to do that uh what inspired me to talk about this today is is like is that idea that it feels like the INTP path for this is uh just very crazy looking because uh it's like oh I have all of these things I need to do well yeah do I do all those things or do
            • 24:00 - 24:30 I explore that thing I've been weing I've been wanting to explore well the INTP path is actually um I would recommend exploring that thing you wanted to explore because there is a reason why you wanted to explore it um and if you really don't want to do something and it's going to be late well chances are no matter what it's ALS it's going to be late now because your energy
            • 24:30 - 25:00 is not aligned so let it be late and fix your energy that's my uh that's that's the theory crafting I'm doing right now and and I'm I'm living it so I'm I'm sharing it with you and I think I'm right and I also think that the world is full of stories of people who uh disappointed everyone
            • 25:00 - 25:30 around them only to later have them all realize that this person was right they just no one else could see they could they were the only one that could see what what they wanted to do so I'm encouraged and uh yeah you I would love to have the the frame of
            • 25:30 - 26:00 this video just be a growing collection of all the of all the experiments I'm running is there anything are there any experiments I can show you right now um I mean I recorded that I that I read that book I recorded structure of uh scientific uh revolutions here I'm starting to read The Magicians way I'm also reading um meditations
            • 26:00 - 26:30 by Marcus relus that one's short and nice so I'm going to read that fast um but yeah you know you can take a quick look over the experiments I'm running right now uh I still haven't finished Quantum Computing but hey there books um Truman shows the next movie to watch I also want I also want to watch tenant so I'll watch that
            • 26:30 - 27:00 um one last place to visit in Korea but that is not for fun that's not just for fun the main point I'm putting here is that is the lifeblood of of everything I'm doing exploration and answering the call of
            • 27:00 - 27:30 curiosity is the lifeblood of everything you're doing I assert that and I assert that uh the the resulting natural experience of building a new Theory and pursuing what the that those theories mean these are all uh things that will make everything else go way better than it ever has before because you now you're you're here I mean that's the thing if you're
            • 27:30 - 28:00 doing if you're doing things from other functions you are not acting in your own reality you are just living other people's lives and they it's PE like you know we're very we're still very early in this in this concept of of authenticity and and the F and uh how and personalities they think they're doing the right thing by insisting that you live like them
            • 28:00 - 28:30 when only you can tell that doing that is killing your motivation so that is uh me exploring this idea uh I think one way you can really understand this is understand all the functions and then
            • 28:30 - 29:00 understand your top two and like just try I guess try filtering out every other function and focus on your top two and see how that ends up making you feel I think that's very important because yeah sure understanding other functions is great but trying to use use them above your first two is I don't recommend that
            • 29:00 - 29:30 I've tried it so that's that today peace uh next time is um what was it next time is ah next time is about uh about about uh about energy so so stay tuned see you
