09:00 - 10:30: Buying and Price Considerations The chapter discusses the financial aspects of creating YouTube content. The narrator explains that despite the significant effort and time investment required to produce YouTube videos, creators receive minimal compensation from the platform. The narrator also mentions that a friend gifted them something to give away as a form of appreciation to their Patreon supporters.
10:30 - 12:30: Fabric and Durability This chapter discusses the durability and quality of various outdoor gear, including tents, sleeping bags, guidebooks, and rucksacks. The explanation aims to inform readers about the material characteristics that contribute to the durability and strength of the product.
18:00 - 22:00: Harness and Comfort The chapter discusses the characteristics of fabrics, particularly focusing on comfort and breathability. It explains how cotton, commonly used in sports joggers or pajamas, is breathable and comfortable due to its loose weave, making it airy and soft. However, cotton is not suitable for outdoor use because it dries slowly. The chapter also mentions the concept of denier, which measures the tightness of the weave, using an example of a rucksack with a denier weave of 210.
22:00 - 27:30: Main Compartment The chapter titled 'Main Compartment' discusses the robustness and highly durable nature of a jacket described as 'freaking Bonkers' due to its high denier weave of 210. This makes it significantly more resilient compared to most waterproof jackets, which typically have a denier weave ranging from 70 to 100. The tightly woven fabric ensures the jacket is both waterproof and long-lasting, able to withstand brushes with trees and brambles without snagging, thus maintaining its integrity.
27:30 - 29:00: Sleeping Bag Compartment The chapter highlights the impressive design of a Rook sack, focusing on the bottom compartment made with a 500 denier weave. It emphasizes the durability and robustness of the material, explaining how it can withstand rough surfaces like glass or twigs without ripping. This feature is praised as an outstanding aspect of the product's design, showcasing its hardwearing and well-built nature.
29:00 - 31:00: Critiques and Final Thoughts The chapter 'Critiques and Final Thoughts' discusses the durability and longevity of the Osprey Rook sack, emphasizing it as an investment piece. This sack is detachable to reduce weight. The chapter emphasizes the utility of this sack, known as a brain, which contains two compartments including a top compartment with a rain cover tab, hinting at its use for rain protection.
Osprey Atmos AG 65 Backpack Review Transcription
00:00 - 00:30 hey everybody how's it going welcome to another video my name is Abby and this is spend more time in the wild a channel a platform a community entirely dedicated to inspiring and empowering people that's you to get outside that's where we are for the benefit of mental and physical health whilst giving Back
00:30 - 01:00 To Nature to leave the planet in a better place than when we arrived now today we are talking kit we are talking gear we are talking stuff call it what you want to call it my goal with this video as with every Gear review video is to empower you with information is to untangle the big words and to leave you with the facts that can hopefully enable you to make a sensible purchase uh and and have Kit and Equipment that's going to see you through the next season if not not more in a very comfortable and
01:00 - 01:30 healthy safe fashion today we're here to talk about this Tada so this my friends is the Osprey Atmos a65 what the flip does that mean good question so Osprey is the brand Osprey is a fantastic brand I have no affiliation with them and I'm very excited about them as a brand because they are really taking Leaps and Bounds to do everything they can to minimize their environmental footprint and build
01:30 - 02:00 products that are built to last thumbs up all around right there Atmos is the name AG not sure what that means haven't researched that and 65 is the liter capacity so that is the the size of this Ro sack and as you saw it's a big old backpack this thing is built to last and this thing is built to see you through longer Expeditions and traveling trips where you need a bigger capacity with lots more stuff so my goal now is to
02:00 - 02:30 find a tree trunk just over there I don't really need to find it I found it is to go to that tree trunk to take this Ros saac off sit down with you guys to make sure you got a brew make sure you got some popcorn because we always need popcorn and let's talk about this packpack the pros the cons and everything in between let me tell you something people I'm not going to be flying with this on my back not anytime soon anyway right let's schol walking on sunsh see I found the tree trunk happy
02:30 - 03:00 it is there we go it's rather cozy quite like this right let's get into this Rook sack so the first thing I want to say is you can buy this rook saac in blue black and green from the Osberry websit now this pack is this sort of Navy Bluey color uh is actually a slightly older model this one was made 3 years ago but it has exactly the same features as the current model so I just thought you know what I'm going to sit sit down and chat
03:00 - 03:30 about this thing so this was very kindly gifted to me by a very good friend of mine uh so that I can give it away to my patreon community so creating YouTube videos takes a lot of work a lot of time and they are entirely free YouTube does not pay us very much to do this this is something that I just really want to do I feel it's like my life calling and by having a patreon platform which is an online platform designed for creators to be supported by their fans and followers um with a monthly donation of3 or more uh it basically enables me to sit here
03:30 - 04:00 and help you out learning about Kit and the outdoor inspirational stuff um so every single month I give away a piece of kit on my patreon platform whether that's a tent whether that's sleeping bags whether that's guide books or Rook sacks just like this one and I'm going to be giving this one away at the end of February 2024 so if you wouldd like to join us there for exclusive content for postcards from me and so much more then please do have a little look the links below and in the top right now as well and also be in with a chance of winning this Rook sack so that's basically just
04:00 - 04:30 a little disclaimer this is not currently on sale the other thing I want to add to that is buying secondhand is one of the best ways we can reduce the price and we can help the planet um by not having to have new stuff produced all the time so I mentioned price there what does this Rook sack retail at Β£290 there you go see you want to knock off a few dollars of that you want to get a second hand um no but honestly Β£290 is a lot of money that's a big price tag but I've already mentioned
04:30 - 05:00 several times in fact that this Rook sack is built to last it has it is is designed with so much care and consideration and that's what we're going to talk about now is all of the different features so what I want to start with is the Fabrics because for me this is one of the most impressive things about not just this Rook sack but other offs spray Rook sacks as well so when it comes to fabric density this is called denier so you might see a number and then a d when it comes to the fabric so that is literally how dense the tight
05:00 - 05:30 or how tightly weaved my gosh get my words out Fabrics are so if you think about like cotton Sports joggers or something you wear around your house your pajamas those are really breathable um yes they don't drive very quickly do not wear cotton in the outdoors uh but they are super comfortable super soft and um very airy so they have a very loose weave so that would be a very small number maybe 20 denier something like that just plucking that from The Ether this Rook sack has a denier weave of two 210 on most of the body except
05:30 - 06:00 the bottom we'll come to that in a second so 210 is freaking Bonkers that makes it basically bum prooof so most waterproof jackets have a den a weave of around 70 to 100 because you know you've got your jacket on your brushing past trees and brambles and whatever you don't want it to snack that needs to stay as one complete piece of fabric so that it is waterproof this a 210 it's just Madness so it's really really tightly weaved and that's why I say this thing is flipping been built to last if
06:00 - 06:30 this snags well done um and then ospre have gone another level again and the bottom of this Rook sack has a 500 denier Weave you're putting your Rook sack down you're at a train station it lands on some glass broken glass or Twigs or or whatever this thing is just it's not going to rip if you rip it like seriously well done um so for me that is such an amazing feature of this Rook sack um just that it is is is so well built it's it's robust it's hardwearing
06:30 - 07:00 it's durable this thing is built to last you don't want to hold the new Rook saag I mean speak from experience you do not want to hold in your Rook sack you lose stuff it's annoying so that's basically the first thing that for me is a massive wow about this Rook sack so this is truly an investment piece so that's just one of the amazing features and now what I'm going to do is break everything else down from the Zips to the pockets to everything else so since it's what I can reach let's start with the top of this Rook sack so the top of this Osprey Rook
07:00 - 07:30 sack is actually removable they call it a hood or a brain and on the back you've got a couple of Clips which you can undo and you can take this thing off and that's going to help shed some weight because this thing does come with some features as a brain I mean brains usually do have positive reasons for existing um So within this brain there are two compartments so we have one right at the top um which has got a little rain cover tab on it and the clue is in the sign this is for your rain
07:30 - 08:00 cover only I put the things in the wrong place um there's another pocket underneath and that is where I have the rain cover that comes with this Rook sack um so it's a nice vibrant green and uh basically a rain cover if you're not familiar is a piece of waterproof fabric that goes over your Rook sack to protect it during really rainy down spells now the outdoor Community is quite well divided when it comes to rain covers um some people really like them some people don't like them and one of the reason many people don't like rain covers is
08:00 - 08:30 they blow away not ideal for you or the planet but Osprey have an amazing pack cover that comes around there's so it's got a lastic sort of around the outside it goes over around the outside and then it Clips around the back of your Rook sack so it Clips onto your Rook sack so it cannot physically blow away and that is one of the reasons why I'm actually really Pro waterproof covers because I think you spend so much on a rook sack the last thing you want is for it to just get soaking wet then go moldy in your house because you can't dry it out maybe that's just our house I don't know
08:30 - 09:00 but also I actually have my Rook sack in my tent with me when I'm camping and I just want to minimize moisture in there so I like waterproof covers it is worth me saying though that this cover that it comes with is a slightly different Osprey design so there are two ospre covers one of them has a clip one of them doesn't and the standard that they tend to give with their roxs does not have a clip um probably so that you do lose it and have to buy another one because the other ones are not cheap let me tell you that um but that's just basically one of the PKS that this Rook
09:00 - 09:30 set comes with if you don't want to carry a waterproof cover take it out easy peasy it's detachable and then the top pocket which should be the bottom pocket that's not confusing at all um this is just a really great top pocket here uh it's got like a little key fob so I put my key on there shockingly I put an OS map in there just for size reference you can see uh just how big and spacious this is I've got my wallet I've actually got a portable chargeable hand warmer I've got some camera batteries cuz running out of power got
09:30 - 10:00 some tissues cuz I'm a bit congested um you know it's just one of those fiddly handy pockets that's really nice to have um and they're very tidy they've got a a slight flap going over the zip so that if you're not using a waterproof cover there's still a little bit of protection so water shouldn't penetrate that zip and then speaking of zip this is one of the things that I love about Osprey packs in general is they are just so well fought through it is crazy these are what you would call glove compatible Zips or zippers um so then they're big
10:00 - 10:30 they're reinforced with this chunky piece of plastic so if youve got gloves on you can just grab it and you can yank it and you know that it's going to be absolutely fine um there's nothing worse than when you've got numb hands and you've just filtered water you've had a horrible night and it's tipping down and you can't fidly faff with your annoying Zips because they're too small and fidly so these are great you're never going to have that problem if you do you might want to get your hands checked in um but no so that's that's the top of this Rook sack um which is is just great and then coming
10:30 - 11:00 to the front of the Rook sack try and get this thing actually balanced so what you can see is I really have not got this uh maxed out in terms of the carrying capacity quite frankly well I was going to say I don't have enough kit to fill this thing up but I do just um not that I want to carry uh 65 lers is a very very big carrying capacity and I think you know if you're just starting out you're probably going to have slightly bulkier kit because cheaper kit is generally a little bit bulk iier not necessarily
11:00 - 11:30 heavier but yes bulkier um and therefore you might just need slightly more space but also um longer trips you know you that's where you end up carrying sort of 10 12 days worth of food and that's where you need more space um I tend to operate within sort of a 48 50 L capacity for my longer trips um but no doubt there will be a time in my life where something like this is going to be extraordinarily helpful um I haven't actually mentioned yet this Rook sack weighs 2.1 kg is so it's a pretty heavy Rook sack and the reason why I say is is
11:30 - 12:00 because you can buy it in small medium and medium large and that's referring to the frame size the hip belt uh yeah hip belt size um and so I just really want to recommend that if you are interested in this Rook Sack or any other Rook sack to go to your nearest outdoor store preferably an independent one and try before you buy because what that means is you can load it up with all your stuff you can bring it in or just a pair of dumbbells or a ker Bell or something um and really feel what it sits like on your body uh when it's fully weighted up
12:00 - 12:30 because most Rook sacks fit all right when they're empty but when you actually put stuff in they that's where their their pulley systems and the design really comes into play so make sure you try before you buy and that you get the right size and I mentioned 2.1 kilograms being quite heavy like it really is um my Rex weighs under 1 kilogram jully expensive um but the reason why this Rook sack weighs just over 2 kg is because it is packed with features we've already seen two very luxurious things of two top Pockets there um which really
12:30 - 13:00 isn't necessary you could just have your waterproof cover stuffed in the front here which will come to as a feature in a minute but you know they're luxuries and for some people this is just going to be amazing because you can really divide your kit up and keep things in right places keep things protected um keep things separated whatever um and that's it's really really helpful if you're Pat packing as in traveling um traveling the globe VIA trains and things this thing's going to be great because you've got different pockets for all your different stuff so there's so much to consider and now we're going to dive into the front of this Rook sack so
13:00 - 13:30 I've mentioned this front pocket then this is what Osprey call a Shove It pocket it was great great name um proper tongue twister so when I started using Osprey packs around 2017 these front pockets were entirely mesh and it was super great because you could pack them full like a pregnant Rook sack thing you could fit infinite amount of things in there but obviously because they were mesh uh they were prone to ripping and so often I ended up shredding those Pockets to the point where they were unusable very then Osprey launched a new pack design
13:30 - 14:00 sh IT pocket where the entire thing was reinforced kind of like the the actual Rook sack fabric which was not so great because it had such a little load capacity you could fit stuff in it and now what they've done is they have gone around 5050 so the front is reinforced and the side panels and the top is mesh and it is quite a nice thick reinforced mesh but it's got a lot of stretch in it and that just means that you can really fit a whole load of stuff in here um and it's a really really helpful pocket to have if you're hiking with someone else
14:00 - 14:30 it's like oh just going to take my jacket off can you just shove it in the front um yeah which is absolutely ideal now I mentioned hiking with a partner that's mainly because you can't reach it yourself when The Rook sack is on your back but it's a it's a really handy pocket to have so for a reference of things that I've got in here right now got my Zio uh satellite communication device which connects to my phone and allows me to send messages wherever I am in the world to my loved ones I've got some gloves I've got a wee woly hat uh what else have I got in here oh just more glage and dry bags and stuff um
14:30 - 15:00 everything in here is pretty much for reference but it's also where I would keep it if I was using this pack on the trail today so that is the front uh Shove It pocket my gosh I really struggle with that term um so up next on the side then we've got two other very luxurious things we've got these these big old Side Pockets um and basically they just open up so you've got if you imagine The Rook sack is layers right so you've got the front then you got the the Shove It pocket then you have another layer of pockets and that is the these side pockets and then you have the
15:00 - 15:30 main vegetable the main compartment so these side pockets are great they're absolutely huge and for reference in here I got some Gators and then on the other side I have got what have I got ah waterproof trousers brand new montain exciting uh so yeah really really handy pockets again you can fit Maps guide books snacks more water anything you want if you're willing to carry it put it in there um again really really great glove compatible Zips can't fault those and um
15:30 - 16:00 yeah they're just really cool I I haven't personally used uh Side Pockets like these for a long time but the the one thing I would say is when you have a a much higher capacity Rook sack you're tempted to fill it if you got more space you're going to fill the space right um it's like people like to fill syum hopefully you didn't click away with that uh but you get my points so there's obviously Pros to having a lot of space but there's cons as well um so
16:00 - 16:30 anyway there's two Side Pockets then we're going to drop down to the front of the Rook sack which I will see if I can put it on my my knee just like that hello um so this is my tint this is my um hilberg enan and on the bottom of this Rook sack you have two removable so you don't have to keep them attached they call them sleeping pad straps so I know in America it's quite common for people to carry their sleeping pad um or sleeping mat on outside of their Rook sack um generally
16:30 - 17:00 people don't tend to carry their tent on the outside these days but I like to um it's just in a dry bag I don't really care about the dry bag but I care a lot about the tent um and I really don't like keeping my wet tent in my Rook sack um generally as I've mentioned I have a smaller capacity Rook sack so by keeping this on the outside um it just freeze up a bit more space in my Rook sack but anyway if you don't want anything on your Rook sack good for you um and you can take these straps off so that's really worth mentioning and again they are really nice possibly maybe an inch
17:00 - 17:30 um thick in diameter clips and um and straps which is perfect for cold hands cold fingers so this Rook sack is going to be super great from the desert to Arctic Wilderness where you are in full Arctic winter gear um because it's designed for gloves suddenly gloves equals Arctic but whatever you get my points right so that's the front um and then the only other thing I suppose actually there's a couple more things I can mention on the front SL side oh we are rotating people so the side has got
17:30 - 18:00 compression straps cloes kind of in the name um there's top and bottom compression straps so when you're actually hiking one of the best things that you can do for your safety and your comfort is to really focus on your center of gravity where is that hm good question if you've ever stood up you'll know it's right down through the middle of you when you start to put something on your back it sort of Alters your center of gravity and it's really important that your Rook sack is held nice and firmly against your back back and again into your body there's a little space in the curvature of the
18:00 - 18:30 back that's not that's not what I'm talking about here um but all these straps when it comes to the harness which I talk to in a minute are designed to keep the Rook sack against your body if there's swing that is going to possibly pull you off balance and certainly mean you're working a lot harder on the trail as well so compression straps a really nice feature on a rook sack to keep everything streamlined to keep everything locked away once you've packed up your Rook saag so that there isn't a wobble or it isn't a swing certainly forwards and backwards that's going to help keep you stable and safe especially on smaller
18:30 - 19:00 narrow paths with Extreme drop offs either side don't do that um so anyway compression straps great um then we've also got some a couple of isacs um strap things what are they called icex Loops there we go woohoo um so I have brought an isce ax for demo basically you pop it in the bottom flip it up you can twist it a couple of times if you want to to make that a little bit tighter and then it's got a toggle either side uh on the right hand side depending on which way you're looking at it this one is tucked
19:00 - 19:30 away so you don't have to have them hanging off they can be nice and tidy squared away or they can dangle out and it's not a problem depends on how free spirited you are in your isce ax Loops that's what we're talking about um sticking with the side then the last thing really to talk about here is the water bottle Pockets now again this is another thing I love ospray for really really great system so this is made predominantly out of mesh the bottom is again reinforced for protection but not only have you got a top entrance
19:30 - 20:00 point so your bottle slides in like every other Rook sack on the planet there's also look at this magic a pocket entrance on the side what I hear you say yes on the side and the reason why this is so miraculous is because when you're hiking sometimes it can be really difficult to get a stretch especially if you're like a couple weeks into your thing and your back is just like um to get your o of us out so to have it on the side not only does it feel like you are releasing Excalibur
20:00 - 20:30 but it's just really great basically you can drink on the go nice and easy super super well fought through and I love that about Osprey packs and this one in particular not all of them have them so make sure you're keeping an eye on that coming to the front or the back of the rack my gosh this gets confusing um we have the harness and a few other special features as well so we've always got the back frame so Osprey packs are very often designed to maximize ventili Asing um when you are venting correctly it
20:30 - 21:00 helps reduce sweat loss and therefore maintains your energy it makes life a bit more sustainable whatever um so they've got this nice bouncy ding ding ding mesh there um they all have different names this one they're calling anti-gravity I'm just looking down so I can read it some of them are called air flow and whatever um I don't know it's usually air something except this one which is anti-gravity uh I do know what I'm talking about honest so yeah so this is actually ever the adjustable you've got one two three four different points as
21:00 - 21:30 to which you can move the top parts of the Rook sack up so the bits that go over your shoulder so again the the idea when you're wearing your Rook sack is you have zero space between the shoulder straps and you um if there's space then you going to have a bit of Swing bit of rock doesn't fit properly so that's something to test when your Rook sack is fully loaded and you're in your store having a little play around so the shoulder straps themselves uh have got adjustable points on the top so just right over the top so you can pull that rsck nice and close to your back um
21:30 - 22:00 we've got sternum straps and we've got the hip belt as well the shoulder straps are wonderfully padded if you do struggle with s shoulders when you're hiking or if you don't know if you're going to struggle with sore shoulders when you're hiking having nice thick padded shoulder straps is is a wonderful luxury um especially when you're getting started it can be very uh morale sapping to be covered in SES and bruises as your body is adjusting to the backpacking lifestyle but of course having the padded does increase the weight something to think
22:00 - 22:30 about and then coming up to rather down to the hip section so this is the hip belt um so we've got two inbuilt mahive uh Pockets here which are fantastic um so in here just again example I've got tissues map compass not a map there's no map in here that's a lie um Compass pacing chart tissues whatever the other one did have snacks but they didn't make it to this um the street they are in my tummy so yeah they're good for snacks trust me
22:30 - 23:00 on that they're not good at locking them in they do have a habit of being eaten so anyway really really great and then the hip belt itself is is chunky quite frankly um again it's built for Comfort hard wearing um whatever it's durability that's the word I'm looking for uh not everybody likes a thick hip belt clip but I do um not that I have one on my current Rock sack but they're great um so I do actually have a couple of critiques about about this uh hip belt but I'm going to come to those in a
23:00 - 23:30 minute I really want to just focus on the features and then come to my critiques of this Rook sack uh so the final thing I want to mention is on the left side of the harness you've got the Stow on Theo tricking pole attachment which essentially is two reinforced pieces of elastic where you can Stow your your trekking pole in sorry when you're on the move so you don't have to collapse it you can keep it at the right length for the terrain that you're on um and it's quite handy actually again it's another Excalibur moment and I do like that about Osprey bit of a luxury feature but but you know where else are you going to put your trkking poles if
23:30 - 24:00 you don't want to use them in your Rook sack how do you do that take your Rook sack off very annoying so yeah still on the go trkking pole attachments and then that really brings us into the main vable or compartment of this Rook sack and this is more interesting than just being a big old Cavern for your stuff so we got two clips here we're going to Bing ping open up the top sco more with we have again a very nice glove
24:00 - 24:30 compatible toggle which you can grab with EAS and these can be quite confusing at first because sometimes when you get uh Rook sacks or or bags you know you want to pinch the toggle and slide it up this one is not a pinch you've just got this little piece of fabric and you just pull it um it's quite quite nice actually on the inside you can see we've got English and French Leave No Trace principles which I think is just a very thoughtful thing um probably an's point something of grams with the ink but if you're worrying about that I think we this is probably
24:30 - 25:00 not the Rook sack for you um but then what we've got on the top here is your additional Hood so this is dead weight if you're using the top of the Rook sack if you're using your brain no sorry the brain um so this is this is designed for when you take the hood off or the brain off you can just use this flap of fabric as the top of your R saac so you can save yourself all of that brain Hood weight um so yeah you can't remove this this is inbuilt it is a bit Scrappy but at the end of the day if if you're in an absolute severe downpour and not using
25:00 - 25:30 um waterproof cover on your Rook sack it does kind of protect your stuff a little bit more because you can stuff it inside just like this look stuff it in cover the top of your stuff pull it tight and it's almost like a a lid seal um for for your Ro saac helicopter going over rather rude isn't it and then for demonstrations purposes I've just chucked a load of stuff in here that I would without thought take on a multi-day or at least overnight trip so we've got a few insulating
25:30 - 26:00 layers I've got a soft shell I've got waterproof I've got my sleeping clothes and change of clothes always got a dry set of clothes um this red strap which you can now see uh vibrantly flashing on your screen um is another security strap so on the inside of your Rook sack right at the top you can again lock your stuff in place so that it's not going to tip out and fall all over the place again helping with that uh Center of gravity what else do I go here I've got my stove
26:00 - 26:30 set up I've got wash kit and um some food and I've just got one more thing which is just my random bits and Bob's dry bag so you can just see um a few random things that can fit in here for size then on the back of this section we have got a water bladder compartment you probably saw in the introduction piece there that I had a pipe coming down my right side that's my water bladder hose so you drink out of that if you're not familiar with these terms this one's 2 and 1/2 L fits very easily it's not quite full cuz I've been sipping on it
26:30 - 27:00 as I've been recording uh but there's a clip on the top so you can clip it so it doesn't slide down the backpack and get very annoying and what's quite nice about this sleeve is it feels like it's got some kind of D water repellency um impregnated into it and actually that's something I forgot to mention so the fabric of The Rook sack is dwr treated durable water repellency so it's got a slight waterproofing or waterproof resistance water resistance Oh My Gosh n to it so again if you if you are course
27:00 - 27:30 out and you don't have a waterproof cover there is definitely a degree of waterproofness that this thing is going to have but just remember nothing except basically pure plastic is waterproof um so yeah worth mentioning and then pretty much the final thing I can mention now about this Rook sack is you can't see it from this angle but if I show you from the top down this compartment goes to about where the top of my tent is and uh it is then divided there is another piece of fabric so what I'm going to do
27:30 - 28:00 is now man all this thing up here I'm going to take my tent off just like this cow taada there's a secret compartment so this is a sleeping bag compartment so in here I've got my sleeping mat if I can get it out bright yellow and my sleeping bag in a waterproof um dry bag and then you can see the the bottom piece of fabric you can actually remove this it's sort of this Bluey color um and it's massive flipping compartment and it's it is quite nice actually being
28:00 - 28:30 able to get your sleeping bag out wherever it's gone over there um just like that but um it it's not everybody's system let's just put it that way so you've got obviously another zip another piece of fabric um all built into this thing which is obviously going to be increasing the weight um so it's it's nice if that's certainly the way that you operate or if you're using a tar setup um or if you caught in an emergency or whatever for some reason you need a sleeping bag very urgently you can get that without having to take everything out of your Rook sack and
28:30 - 29:00 even though the bottom or however rather even though you know the bottom of the Rook sack is reinforced I would still keep your sleeping bag which is that blue thing there in the bottom of the screen uh in a dry bag just for added protection because that is not only your comfort thing your morale thing but it is a safety thing as well you might not need it someone else might need it um so make sure you do look after your sleeping bags wherever you are never mind about this Rook sack so that's the final feature really for me to talk about this this thing is a hollow shell of what it once was um so I mentioned I've got a couple of critiques so the
29:00 - 29:30 first thing is is the weight um there are a lot of luxury features in here which some people might find their eyes lighting up and some people will go what the flip are you doing um if you're willing to carry it carry it you know often it's a it's a bit of a a gamble or or what's the word I'm looking for compromise between comfort and and weight uh if you want more Comfort you're going to have to carry it but then carrying it can make you uncomfortable it's a bit of a vicious circle so this be wise with with what you're carrying whether you actually need 65 L or not um my other critique as
29:30 - 30:00 well I mentioned on the The Hip belt is it's it's really reinforced and it can actually be quite hard to get it on and off it's designed to hug your hips um particularly in in a in a male frame there aren't hips for this thing to sit on top of um and so having this like hugging feature means that it's it's not going to slip down and it's going to stay comfortable and attached in that right place on your body for the duration of your hike that day um but it is almost too Huggy you have to sort of
30:00 - 30:30 wrestle your way in and out of it um and it's it's not everybody's cup of tea for me I find it a little bit claustrophobic just getting it on and off but when I'm wearing it it's it's lovely so again another reason to sort of try before you buy and my final critique which as you can tell is not much you know that the weight comes with the fact that it's durable and you've got lots of cool things the hip belt is Huggy which you know is is annoying but great because it fits well the final thing is I find for my size that the hip belt pockets are
30:30 - 31:00 just a little bit too far around for me to reach like I have to pull this thing quite tight um and it's just a bit fiddly but then I'm kind of like is that just a hip belt pocket thing I don't really know um so that could just be totally my personal experience and not necessarily critique of this Rook sack at all why am I saying it good question but anyway that is essentially my my summary of the features of this Rook sack I think this is a fantastic investment piece I can't wait to see who the lucky winner of this particular Rook
31:00 - 31:30 sack is going to be at the end of February 2024 via my patreon page there's the gear junky tier your name is put into the list not just once but twice if you comment on the post that I share each month of what the the prize is you can get your name in once twice three times whatever um so really really high chance of winning this thing and other gifts as well um but no genuinely I think this is a super cool Rook sack and that's why I'm taking the time to sit out here to talk to you about it because it can be really intimidating buying a rook sack especially with such a big price tag and I hope that this has been helpful I hope it's untangled some
31:30 - 32:00 of the the weird terms and longer words and just helped you see in real time what this Rook sack is actually like so yeah let me know below if you use this Ro sack how you get on with it if you use another backpack what is it how do you get on with it and um let me know if I forgotten anything as well because it does happen and I wanted to say thank you for for joining me today and until next time enjoy your adventures wherever they may be and until next time stay Wild I see you
