What this utility changes

JPEG and WebP quality controls trade some image detail for a smaller file. PNG export stays lossless, so resizing or converting from another format is usually more useful than expecting a large same-size PNG reduction.

Converting a transparent image to JPEG fills transparent areas with white. Browser export also removes most embedded metadata. Keep the original when metadata, exact color workflows, animation, or print production matters.

Frequently asked questions

Does OpenTools upload my image?

No. Selection, decoding, resizing, encoding, preview, and download happen in your browser. Functional analytics use only coarse format and size buckets, never the file name, image bytes, exact dimensions, or image contents.

Will the result always be smaller?

No. PNG, a higher quality setting, or conversion from an already optimized file can produce a larger result. The utility shows the actual source and output sizes before download.

What happens to transparency?

PNG and WebP can preserve transparency. JPEG cannot, so transparent areas are filled with white during JPEG export.

Can it process HEIC, GIF, SVG, or many images?

Not in this release. It accepts one JPEG, PNG, or WebP. That keeps processing predictable and avoids silently dropping animation or vector information.
