Adobe clarifies assistant access is separate from generative model controls

The organization‑wide setting controls supported assistants

Adobe’s October 28 administrative guidance separates access to its Firefly‑powered AI assistants from access to the applications and generative models around them. The Community Manager notice addresses Enterprise CCE 4 / 5 administrators. It clarifies the controls’ scope, without establishing when the setting was first introduced.

Adobe says administrators can enable or disable supported assistants through the organization‑wide “Access Firefly‑powered AI assistants” setting in the Adobe apps section of Admin Console. Turning it off blocks those assistants while leaving the rest of the underlying product available.

For an administrator deciding how broadly to permit AI assistance, that is a narrower action than disabling an application. The notice also limits its description to supported assistants; it does not establish identical behavior for every AI feature in every Adobe product.

Model restrictions remain a separate policy decision

The same guidance says the assistant setting does not disable standalone generative AI features. Adobe directs administrators to model controls for Firefly models and third‑party partner models to manage those other generative capabilities.

The separation works in the other direction, too. Enabling assistants does not remove existing third‑party model restrictions: Adobe says those restrictions continue to govern generation across supported assistant experiences. An organization therefore needs to distinguish whether its policy concerns access to an assistant, the models used to generate content, or both. One control should not be treated as a substitute for the other.

Content access depends on the application and workflow

Adobe’s content‑access explanation also avoids a single rule for every assistant. Some experiences are limited to the current product context; others may use project assets or cloud‑hosted content associated with the user’s workflow. The available sources vary by application.

That means the notice does not support a universal promise that an assistant sees only the current document. Teams assessing a particular use need its product and workflow context alongside the organization’s assistant and model settings. These are Adobe’s documented distinctions, rather than an OpenTools test of Admin Console enforcement or any organization’s configured permissions.
