      Overview

Avalon is a game filled with intrigue and strategy, where each player's role comes with specific responsibilities and tactics to master. Luke, an expert player, shares that understanding your role deeply can significantly change the outcome of the game and make sessions more enjoyable. Whether you draw a card as Merlin or a Minion of Mordred, knowing your objectives is key.

Playing as Merlin involves a delicate balance of aiding the good side without drawing the attention of potential assassins. Merlin needs to disguise their influence on the game while gradually guiding their fellow good players to victory. Meanwhile, Luke points out that roles such as Percival involve protective playstyles—making themselves a target over Merlin to mislead the evil players.

On the contrary, if you're playing a character like Morgana or a Minion of Mordred, your focus shifts to disrupting the good team's plans. Morgana's charm lies in leveraging confusion and mistrust among players, while Oberon adds an unpredictable element due to their hidden identity as a villain. Understanding these dynamics not only elevates your personal game but raises the overall excitement of Avalon.

            • 11:00 - 24:00: Merlin Tips The chapter titled 'Merlin Tips' introduces the expert from the social deduction division of Maple University, who is set to enhance the audience's experience with the game Avalon, which has been popular for over a decade. The expert, Lucas, is depicted with a touch of humor, as the narrator admits to having no life, insinuating a deep involvement with the game. This chapter starts with the narrator clarifying that it will not focus on teaching the game itself, hinting at more nuanced insights or strategies to be shared.
            • 24:00 - 34:00: Percival Tips The chapter 'Percival Tips' begins by clarifying the focus of the current content, highlighting that it won't delve into game basics such as drawing, stitching, or general gameplay. Instead, this content is designed to provide specific tips about playing the character Percival within the game. It mentions that for beginners or those unfamiliar with the game mechanics and roles, there is a separate video provided in the video description which outlines how to play, definitions, and role descriptions.
            • 34:00 - 43:00: Morgana Tips This chapter provides tips for playing Morgana in a game context. It discusses the similarity between the roles of Mordred and the Assassin, emphasizing their shared responsibilities and abilities. Both roles have the same information and perform similar actions, and by the end of the game, they consult on an assassination. The chapter highlights the importance of understanding these roles as the foundational elements or 'grunts' of the evil team. Players are advised to embrace this identity and focus on fulfilling their role's duties effectively.
            • 43:00 - 50:00: Vanilla Good Guy Tips The chapter 'Vanilla Good Guy Tips' provides strategic advice for players whose objective is to achieve failures in the game without drawing suspicion. The key advice is to balance between not getting identified as evil while also taking advantage of opportunities to cause a mission to fail. A common sentiment among players is that achieving at least one successful sabotage or failure is crucial. The chapter emphasizes adaptability based on varying in-game circumstances and stresses not going too deep in cover, as doing so may hinder the primary goal of failing missions.
            • 50:00 - 58:00: Mordred Tips The chapter titled 'Mordred Tips' discusses strategies for players in a game setting where success in earlier missions builds trust among fellow players. The emphasis is on strategically placing fail cards early in the game, especially in scenarios with a smaller number of evil players. The conversation suggests that even with just two evil players in the game, suspicion can be directed by appropriately timing the placement of fail cards, thus affecting players' perceptions and trust dynamics.
            • 58:00 - 64:00: Oberon Tips In this chapter, the focus is on strategies for players in the Oberon role in the game. It illustrates the pressure Merlin faces when there are two fails on the board, emphasizing how Merlin must adopt a more aggressive and obvious play style to avoid another evil team's success, which inadvertently aids in the assassination decision. The chapter highlights how evil players can capitalize on this tension, as their ultimate goal is to win, whether through direct sabotage with fails or through strategic decision-making.
            • 64:00 - 75:00: Conclusion and Favorite Roles Discussion The conclusion of the discussion dives into tactics and strategies used in strategic games. It emphasizes the importance of balancing success and failure in game missions, particularly focusing on roles like that of Merlin. The strategy is not merely about winning, but also about the clever use of roles and actions to maintain an advantage, sometimes by deliberately failing a mission to deceive opponents. This reflects broader strategic thinking applicable both in games and real-life scenarios.
            • 75:00 - 77:00: Outro In the chapter titled 'Outro,' the discussion revolves around the dynamics of evil players in a game setting. It highlights the paradoxical nature of being part of a team but not truly acting as a team. The speaker emphasizes that even though evil players technically collaborate, they should not rely on personal trust, such as vouching for a friend at the start of the game, as this could lead to manipulation by others.

Best Roles Guide and Tips in Avalon Transcription

            • 00:00 - 00:30 [Music] hi I'm Stella from Maple University and today we have a special guest Luke my friend Luke oh Stella hello so Luke is the expert of Avalon now this video is all about rolls guide we have a separate video for generic rules from basic intermediate and advanced so check that out in the link in the description below if you are interested but this one is more directed into each
            • 00:30 - 01:00 different roles in Avalon game and how to play a good one so this is for you know for you just start at medium or intermediate hopefully this will help you in playing Avalon and having more fun that's very important in having more fun in Avalon exactly right yeah this is for people who've played the game you understand the basis of the game you know how the mechanics work but when I get that
            • 01:00 - 01:30 personal card when I get that that Morgana card how do I play I don't know what I'm meant to do differently uh this is this is that guide for you this is the guide so highly recommend it the other tips video as well that we have but look just a little bit about look if you haven't seen Luke well you might see in Luke in videos such as quests in our Channel or tips for Avalon and resistance that was a few years ago but Luke has been playing
            • 01:30 - 02:00 Avalon literally since it's out about 10 years ago it's true I have no life yes exactly what I'm saying but Lucas has probably what thousands listening the expert of the social deduction division of maple University to help you enjoy your game of Avalon that's basically my mission now before we start really quick one this video is not about teaching you how
            • 02:00 - 02:30 to draw stitching or teaching you how to play the game because we already have a separate video which I will link in the video description of how to play the games and what's uh what's the roles is like what's the definition and description of the roles so with that let's get to it let's do it we're gonna kick this one off by talking about the vanilla evil guy the minion of Mordred and these tips also apply to the
            • 02:30 - 03:00 Assassin because they're essentially uh the exact same role they have the same information they do the same things um and you know at the end of the game they still get to confer on the assassination so these tips apply to both generic menus of Mordred and the Assassin role so the thing to note about these guys is that if you've picked up your role you've seen one of these guys you know that you are the grunt of the evil team yeah right you're not here to
            • 03:00 - 03:30 do anything fancy your job is to get fails on the board right now how you do that is up to you and it's going to depend on the circumstances that you're in but you don't want to go too deep cover as these roles right certainly you don't want to be outed as evil but you don't want to pass up too many opportunities to get a fail on the board a lot of players say you know if I can if I can get one successful mission in
            • 03:30 - 04:00 maybe even two successful missions people will absolutely trust me and and put me on future missions um for what purpose right so that you can put fail cards down right just put them down early get it done get it out of the way uh even in small player account games if there are only two evil Players let's say for argument's sake that one put out one fail card and then was added as evil another put out another fail card and people were suspicious on that player
            • 04:00 - 04:30 you have to keep in mind that still even just getting two fails on the board suddenly means there is immense pressure on Merlin because Merlin cannot risk another evil team being successful so suddenly Merlin has to play very uh with with much more aggressive uh yeah they have to play more obviously which is then going to help the assassination decision and as an evil player you don't mind whether you win with fails on the
            • 04:30 - 05:00 board or whether you win with the assassination right you'll take either one right so even just getting two fails on the board can be enough to cause Merlin to have to come out and play very obviously so that is to say in summary you don't want to you you maybe sometimes you'll say all right first mission I'm going to throw in a success card but outside of that if you have one of these roles you want that mission to fail that is not your job to go
            • 05:00 - 05:30 undercover the other thing I want to add on these guys is that um as an evil player you are not here to work as a team with the other evil players I mean you are literally here working in the team but you do not work as a team what I mean is um if you at the start of the game saying hey I trust my friend over here my friends really good we should put them on the team players are going to be
            • 05:30 - 06:00 very suspicious of that right why are you being so trusting of this player who you have no information about right so you should treat every players including people who are on your team with an apparent degree of Suspicion because you do apparently you're the bad guy or the good guy you don't know who everyone our nails exactly exactly and then finally for these guys the other thing that you need to be doing is you're putting those fail uh those fail
            • 06:00 - 06:30 cards out there to get fail failed missions on the board that is going to create that pressure on melon so your other job here is to really take note of which players around the table are taking actions making decisions that are helpful to the good team but don't seem to have a basis in logic if they don't have a basis in logic then why are they making those decisions
            • 06:30 - 07:00 where did they get that information from why did they reject that team with a spy on it merely they agree they approved that team that had no spies on it what's going on there so that's your other job your other job is to keep a very close eye on who your Merlin candidates are and importantly who's not your Merlin candidate right so someone who seems who has seemed to be very actively helping the evil team win much to to their um uh
            • 07:00 - 07:30 you know outside of their knowledge yep very good tip foreign next up we're going to talk about Merlin when I uh at the start of the game see I've got Merlin I'm sweating Merlin is the hardest role to play in this game now let's think about this from how do I win the game as Merlin I've won the game as Merlin when the Assassin when the Assassin has shot
            • 07:30 - 08:00 wrong when they have shot someone else right that's a really important thing to remember as Merlin so ultimately your job is to not get shot right now outside of that you do need to balance that against how do I help the good team whilst not getting shot here right so what you need to keep in mind is that
            • 08:00 - 08:30 perfect play here is something that those spies are going to be looking out for if you approve only good missions if you reject all missions with a spy on it if you select only good teams if you communicate openly I'll air a spy over there and they're a spy over there and everything you do is accurate you're going to get shot yeah so you need to be very careful about what you do there so
            • 08:30 - 09:00 keep in mind your first job is don't get shot your second job is to help the good team so again with Merlin don't underestimate the the value of your of your fellow loyal Servants of Arthur occasionally they're going to make some amazing plays here and you don't have to be the one to drive things for the good team often just some very subtle nudges in
            • 09:00 - 09:30 the right direction might be all you need to get the good team over the line here right but keep in mind number one job don't get shot so it might just be that you are um you are trying to act you're very quiet at the start of the game make it seem like you're trying to figure things out [Music] um you might want to pick up on the good plays of others so if you see another
            • 09:30 - 10:00 another good team member pick a team with all good players on it then you might start wanting to paint them as Merlin you might want to start saying oh that was an interesting team you seem to know what you're talking about I think I'm going to select the same team that you did yeah yeah yeah this gives you that explanation as Merlin keep in mind we've got to have that narrative
            • 10:00 - 10:30 running in our mind about what's going on in the game right and my narrative that I've got to put out to the table is Merlin is I don't know much about what's going on but I've been figuring it out slowly and so I've seen that player over there who seems to know a lot and so I'm just going to follow what they're doing what that does in the mind of the spies is saying well that that one was the one who first proposed that team and it looked like uh looked like Luke was just following along so maybe Luke is Percival and that other player is Merlin
            • 10:30 - 11:00 so that's a really good tactic as Merlin is to just pick up on the good plays of your fellow loyal Servants of other they're not going to know that they're making them right no yeah but they don't need to all they need to do is to make the evil team suspicious of them so another way of thinking about this along the lines of that first job that Merlin has of don't get shot is if you can come
            • 11:00 - 11:30 in so the evil team's got a ranking of who's most likely to be male and they're always going to shoot number one right so number two they might also be suspicious on number three less suspicious and so on you need to think about which good player at the table is number one suspicious at the moment right as Merlin you want that not to be you yeah no yeah when you know who that is and how suspicious they are that allows you to
            • 11:30 - 12:00 play a little bit more aggressively as long as you don't overtake that number one spot for Merlin's suspicion under the rate of Merlin exactly and what that might help as well is that might help them because remember there's a person out there that might then help them to amp up their uh their Merlin play and be more suspicious so always lean on other players lean on their their good decisions say oh so what you're saying is that okay yeah I'll fly on that yeah
            • 12:00 - 12:30 yeah and um that that will then help you to communicate to the good guys what's going on but also to not get shot to be to paint that other player as number one Merlin candidate and you might be number two but as long as you're not number one yeah you're not going to be the one that gets shot and so then maybe later in the game what's happening is when you feel like you are in the clear
            • 12:30 - 13:00 it's important then that you don't start up acting suspiciously in the opposite direction where you just suddenly go quiet and say I'm just not going to do anything here because an experienced spy will look at that and go hmm maybe you're maybe you feel like you've done enough you're flying under the radar here what you can do in that situation you've tried to paint that other player as Merlin you might then try and paint
            • 13:00 - 13:30 yourself as a Percival right now you need to be careful with how you play this because again you don't want to take over that number one spot for for melon but what you might do is you might say you might say well you know I'm I'm definitely Merlin knowing that the spies think it's that person over there painted in their mind that you are protecting them right so oh no I'm that they're not melon I'm Merlin don't don't shoot them shoot me instead right it's Double Bluff exactly yeah exactly the
            • 13:30 - 14:00 old melon Double Bluff but the key thing to to remember as Merlin is you can go as hard as you want as long as you never overtake that first spot for Merlin suspicion so you do that in two ways one is by making sure that you are not more just in the most suspicious moment most suspicious good guy the other way is by painting that good guy as more Merlin than they than you are yep
            • 14:00 - 14:30 all right after melon who have we got what else who else first of all yeah thanks best buddy so first of all what did we say for melon we said your job as Merlin is don't get shot your number one job for personal get shot yeah this is your job is to get shot all right now most games in which you play Percival there's also going to be more Ghana right so at the start of
            • 14:30 - 15:00 the game you're usually not going to know who Merlin is but you're going to know that it's one of two people right now it is important as you're trying to work out who Merlin is that you're not too obvious about it I'll give you an example of that if you're really honing in on two players Merlin and Morgana and you're investigating both of them morgana's gonna going to be watching that unfold
            • 15:00 - 15:30 it's going to say why are you grilling me and one good guy must mean that you're personal and if you're personal that other good guy that you're grilling you failed in your job there because Merlin's getting shot right so you can't hone in on just those two players you need to be careful about how you approach that um you can certainly you'll certainly want to pay attention to what each does
            • 15:30 - 16:00 but you need to be careful about how you'll approach it now remember what Merlin is trying to do here right Merlin is trying to not be number one Merlin suspect so what that's going to mean is that they are going to try and help as much as they can but they're not going to play perfectly right they're not going to approve only good missions that are going to reject only bad missions they're not going to
            • 16:00 - 16:30 always necessarily pick only good teams a good male and player is going to be a little bit more subtle than that but there are some things that you might want to watch out for right keep in mind that Morgana is still a spy at the end of the day and Morgana wants to fail missions so Morgana especially later in the game might be trying to pick a mission of herself and
            • 16:30 - 17:00 other and only other good guys right now what what Morgana doesn't know is who Merlin is and often what will happen is that Morgana will pick a team that includes herself and Merlin so you can look at that with suspicion whenever Morgana picks a team early on With Merlin on it you can look at that very suspiciously again don't don't draw don't draw the
            • 17:00 - 17:30 conclusion straight away because we that's it's possible that that is Merlin uh knowingly picking an evil player to throw the the spies off but that's something that is very suspicious that you should look towards and as well after you've started working out which teams would fail which teams were good look at who's approving who's who's rejecting these teams and start to draw more and more conclusions as the game goes on you're going to become more
            • 17:30 - 18:00 and more certain about who Merlin is but do not base your judgment off one decision of one action you see one failed Mission don't write them off at that point you can have strong suspicions but you can't know with certainty so always maintain a healthy level of Doubt around which one is Morgana and is Merlin there will come a time during the game though in which you are pretty certain and at that point in time it is your job
            • 18:00 - 18:30 well you're going to get shot later but to do so you have to be Merlin's loudspeaker yes so you have to pick up the subtle hints that Merlin is putting down either through voting or through cryptic statements or through team selections whatever it is and you have to amplify that you have to make it seem like that is more your choice than it is Maryland's you need to really start amplifying that and really dragging the
            • 18:30 - 19:00 attention of the spies away from Merlin and onto yourself right now the other thing to keep in mind is that early on you want to remain a Merlin candidate right so you need to make sure that you haven't completely destroyed any possibility of you being Merlin early on um the last thing that I'll say about Percival is that in large player count
            • 19:00 - 19:30 games there is a particular play you can make where you might at the start of the game let's talk about we're talking about nine players or ten players here right at the start of the game you might just come out and say hey everyone I'm personal and the reason you might do that is because of the distribution of good guys and bad guys in the game particularly in nine players nine players you've got three evil players you've got six good guys if there is one known good guy out
            • 19:30 - 20:00 there that makes team selection much easier for the good guys you need to trade that off against what you've lost in terms of you being a Merlin candidate right but at the same time you know the the evil team doesn't know that you're not Merlin coming out and saying hey everyone I'm Percival right but what you can do you can try that right and see what happens because you know
            • 20:00 - 20:30 there's a few different ways that that can play out but generally there's good things that can happen for the the good team in that one of the things that might happen is a spy might go oh I need to I need to take care of this problem now no I'm I'm personable you're you're not pestle because I'm personable right but at the very worst what that means is we know between the two of them that there's a spy there right which then really Narrows that down further and
            • 20:30 - 21:00 really helps to um to improve the odds in the in the good team's favor even more so it's a it's kind of a niche play but it's something you can think about doing with personal from time to time interesting interesting I think that's that's really like it's I never thought of that but that makes sense because there are times where you just want to do that and then people might you can just lie you can say whatever you can you be the vanilla vanilla person and then you can see I'm Percival and no one will know yeah right yeah
            • 21:00 - 21:30 we've got Morgana now Morgana is an interesting one to play you'll only play Morgana in a game where you've also got Percival and so a big part of morgana's job is around negating what good Percival can do so morgana's job here is she's got she's kind of got a few different jobs here but let's let's talk about each of them the first one is to confuse Percival so
            • 21:30 - 22:00 you need to make sure that personal can't immediately discern that you're evil and then immediately know who Merlin is because then Percival is very easily able to help protect Merlin right right so you needs to seem very trustworthy at least in the first half of the game right so you might early on you might be one of those
            • 22:00 - 22:30 evil roles that in the first mission you're in you might want to put in a success card and have that mission go through successfully to buy percival's trust right and the reason you're doing that is not only so that personal doesn't trust Merlin but through a lot of your actions you're going to be trying to draw out who Percival is you want to start taking note of a particular good guy
            • 22:30 - 23:00 who's paying a lot of attention to you if they are asking a lot of questions to you if they are seeming to follow what you do particularly if you've if you've gained their trust and are implicitly following everything you do and and trusting that you have the right teams picked you need to take note of that for a couple of reasons one is that if you know who Percival is
            • 23:00 - 23:30 then you know who Merlin isn't right now we've talked about how percival's job is to get shot right if you can take personal out of the equation then that means that Merlin has a much tougher time right because Merlin has to then play with and hope that one of the vanilla good guys can come through as more of a Merlin candidate so as Morgana
            • 23:30 - 24:00 you're trying to gain that trust but also you're then trying to see if you can see who that player is playing an equal and opposite you know an equal amount of attention to but in an opposite way in that person is likely to be Merlin right if you can help that happen and you can then try subtly hinting to the evil players one of whom is going to be the Assassin okay so yeah so you're uh
            • 24:00 - 24:30 you're very trusty of me that's good and you're not very trusting that player over there great that is very subtly hinting that guys we might have found our Merlin here so your job here as Morgana is to keep the waters muddied for as long as you can you don't want personal to immediately be able to jump on Merlin and know who Merlin is and then your your secondary job is to try and help uh to to narrow down who
            • 24:30 - 25:00 Merlin is through Percival now their job is to choose some carrots [Laughter] so you can see here on the screen so Luke played Avalon that much loves Avalon that much that he has specially made Morgana card based on um funny story I was I was um when I was
            • 25:00 - 25:30 originally um going to to adopt her um I've had pet rabbits for pet rabbits make great pets but um I I've had pet rabbits before and always the the male rabbits have kind of been the friendlier nicer pets and so I thought I was going to end up with a male rabbit and so I was going out there thinking that I'm gonna get a pet rabbit I'm gonna name him Merlin because uh also obviously because yeah uh but yeah I went and and I found her at the shelter and she was just she was by far
            • 25:30 - 26:00 the the nicest bunny there and so I mean I'm definitely taking her home and she's so cute she's she's very cute and this is so funny and this card was drawn by a professional so it was drawn by gong Studios so they're usually do artwork for board games so it's basically made for in honor of morgada AKA your bunny yeah it was really really cool artwork um yeah and uh yeah and Stella gave me that one
            • 26:00 - 26:30 oh yeah I forgot that that though I've got that hanging on my wallet um so who knows maybe you'll have you know your face in the as um Merlin no assassin I don't know how about we can share your favorite roles ever at the end of this video sounds good yeah okay vanilla good guy vanilla good guy
            • 26:30 - 27:00 um and why did I wait so long to talk about the vanilla good guy the plainest role in the game I'm sure you haven't written a good reason I hope so uh no the the vanilla good guy is actually there's a lot of nuance to how you play it and there's a lot that you people look at this often they go oh well you know there's nothing I could do in this game there is a lot that you can do as as a uh as a vanilla good guy you have a very important role in the game and I'm
            • 27:00 - 27:30 gonna get into that now and so the first the first thing that you've got to do is vanilla Good Guys the most obvious thing you need everyone to trust you you need to get on those missions so that you can be putting in those success cards and giving less opportunity for spies to get on missions and throwing fail cards that stuff's very obvious right and so you're going to do that by starting to convince everyone that you're good by making sure that you are helping
            • 27:30 - 28:00 discussions which further the cause of the good team helping us you know logically deduce what uh what a good team is and avoid bad picks um but at the same time you've got another job here that is very very important but often underrated remember what we talked about with Merlin we said that Merlin is trying to help the the good team guide
            • 28:00 - 28:30 them towards the right outcome but they can't seem to be the originator of these ideas right so Merlin is looking for other players who've inadvertently or intentionally made good calls made the right decisions and then picking up on that so as a good guy what you can do is you can just throw out some pretty outlandish theories right you can start saying well I'm
            • 28:30 - 29:00 going to pick this team I'm not going to put Stella on my team because Stella is a spy everyone I hate to tell you but Stella's a spy so she's not going on my team and so that's why I'm not putting her on my team now I know nothing about Stella she may be a spy she may not be but if enough of the vanilla good guys are doing similar things and putting out all of these crazy theories one of them might stick one of them
            • 29:00 - 29:30 might be correct and one of them might be that one that allows Merlin to then go oh Luke what was it you're saying that Stella's a spy yeah seems like you're on to something there so yeah I'm not going to put her on my team because of this and this your narrative exactly you're helping Merlin build his narrative you're helping him build his logic so that when he does his Merlin thing he's seemingly acting on a different
            • 29:30 - 30:00 Merlin's um on another player's knowledge yeah so that's the the very underrated part of playing a vanilla good guy is you have to be the one out there that's putting out things that may be true maybe not be true but is going to give Merlin that opportunity to fly under the radar and to give him a bit of cover the what you you won't always play it that way but it is it is a very useful
            • 30:00 - 30:30 way to play every good guy you need to be very conscious that if you just play very quietly very much like oh I don't know what's going on I'm not sure I'm just gonna approve everything I'm on and then reject everything else and I don't know and I'm just gonna stay in my stay in my little shell until the end of the game and hope that we win if you do that then you've immediately discounted yourself as a Merlin candidate right all of the good guys do
            • 30:30 - 31:00 that if all the vanilla good guys do that then at the end of the game the assassination comes down to a coin flip yeah best yeah right yeah it'll either be possible or or Merlin and 50 50 odds is not is not great it's not where you want to end up so you've really got to provide some additional cover for Merlin that's your job too foreign now we're going to talk about Mordred
            • 31:00 - 31:30 you see the head of the evil guys I mean the others guys are his minions minions are moderate so maybe it's the most evilest maybe he's the head of the evil team um mordred's job here is to fly under the radar right but more importantly perhaps first I'll put it this way moderate's job is to throw in the final fail card for the evil team everything Mordred does needs to be
            • 31:30 - 32:00 thinking about how am I going to be the player who throws in the last fail for the evil team now notice I say the last fail and not necessarily the third failed mission sometimes it might be a little bit of a lost cause for the evil team they might not be able to get to three fails on the board remember the Assassin is still in play they haven't necessarily lost yet the moderates still wants still has a
            • 32:00 - 32:30 useful role to play they still need to get a fail card in there right because the more failed missions are on the board the more pressure is on Merlin to start making more obvious plays and help us with the assassination choice right so mordred's job is first of all if everything's going well if it looks like we're we're going well my my fellow spies are getting the job done they're getting a couple of fails on the on the board they might get outed it doesn't matter because Merlin doesn't know who I
            • 32:30 - 33:00 am Merlin doesn't know who I am person who doesn't know who I am no one knows who I am all I need to do is fly under the radar for them to be good and then tap put in that final fail card hopefully your your you know common common uh way that Mordred works out and the ideal way that model will work out is you're on that final mission um Merlin has said well it's as good as
            • 33:00 - 33:30 we're going to get Morgan might be on it but let's hope not uh and then you put in that fail card that's really what you're thinking about every time you play Mordred so in that way you're trying to emulate a vanilla good guy um you might do everything else that a vanilla good guy does right you might start putting out crazy theories like I think they're evil I think oh actually I don't know I really don't know I'm sorry I'm just I'm just a dumb vanilla good guy I'm sorry
            • 33:30 - 34:00 um you want people's trust like every other role in the game you want people's trust but importantly you want that trust to last throughout the game whereas the other spies are happy for that trust to be traded away for a nearly fail you less so you're on Mission One mission two you're succeeding that mission all right you're in a mission with a fellow spy you're playing a success card um you are really your job there is to put
            • 34:00 - 34:30 in that final uh fail card if it looks like things are going south of spies too many too many spies altered we might not even have a single one on we might have one on the board you might be there to put in that fail card that you need to for the second failed Mission even if that does help Merlin narrow it down maybe it's casted a bit of Suspicion on you at the very least what it'll do is it'll help put pressure on Merlin to help with the assassination decision and then out of him her whatever exactly so
            • 34:30 - 35:00 Mordred your job is the last fail card that the the evil team plays that's more just fail card that's your job that's what you're thinking about you're thinking about getting everyone's trust making sure that I seem to be doing everything right for the good team and then just tab sounds like you're enjoying this this too much anyways and that's more trick next up and finally Oberon
            • 35:00 - 35:30 um Oberon a lot of players look at Oberon and they go oh no over on I'm gonna be on the evil team I'm not gonna go who the evil team are this is terrible what am I gonna do I feel the opposite about Oberon Oberon is a very freeing role I think because you're not going to be held to account for not knowing who the other evil team is for uh things like that you just need
            • 35:30 - 36:00 to play as well as you can given the information you have which is none so the way you play Oberon is you need to keep in mind that Merlin knows who you are right melon already knows who you are so you don't have to worry too much about trying to conceal your identity like a Mordred would right so Mordor is very much like I don't wanna I don't want to have to play that fail card I want to fly under the radar oberon's
            • 36:00 - 36:30 like ah I I don't need to fly under the radar because Merlin already knows who I am um but the spies don't right and that's a vital piece of information for the spies the spies want to know who O'Brien is and so the easiest way for Oberon to share that information is if they are on a mission play the fail card you don't have to think about it yes you might be on a mission with with another evil player yes there might be a double fail
            • 36:30 - 37:00 come out but that's the nature of the game it it's going to happen from time to time it's going to happen at some point but as Oberon you need to play that fail card you'll get a failed Mission out of it and also your fellow spies will have some clue about who Oberon is and that will really help so that's really um that's really it when it comes to Oberon there's not too much more that you need to do other than that try and
            • 37:00 - 37:30 throw a bit of chaos into the mix if you can help mix up things so that Merlin is less able to communicate well and and that the the information doesn't flow so freely between the good guys do that but really you know you're just there just to throw in as many fail cards as you can and just to cause chaos and and uh hopefully that you you know you don't cause it double fail at the same time yeah if you get outed that's fine that doesn't matter right but
            • 37:30 - 38:00 all of these things go to helping the the good team as Oberon the worst thing you can do is just to try and fly under the radar and just not do anything and wait till the end of the game that's that's not your job get out there be loud and proud put in your fail cards and know that you've done a good job there you go so that's basically all the roles in basic Avalon game and if you have any questions anything
            • 38:00 - 38:30 that you want to ask or even if you have your own tips that you want to share please write in the comments we'll be happy to read it and then get back to you as soon as I can I can even like pass it on to Luke and if you have any idea there's any other questions tips and everything we might even consider making another videos let us know and then highly recommended the other video that we have that I mentioned earlier which is the generic guide of Avalon basic intermediate and the plants now to the
            • 38:30 - 39:00 bonus section what is your favorite not that you can choose your role ever when you play Avalon but what is your favorite roles ever and why um so if I'm playing a game of Evelyn yeah there's a lot of anticipation when I'm picking up my roll card for the first time right um and um the one card that I'm always most glad to see is moderate [Music]
            • 39:00 - 39:30 moderate is the most satisfying because for a few reasons right one is you get to see the perspective of the game from a good guy you get to kind of get a sense of Merlin trying to throw shade on the evil players and you know potentially not throw shade on yourself but also there's nothing more satisfying there's absolutely nothing in this world more satisfying than being that final
            • 39:30 - 40:00 mission good guys so hopeful Merlin saying come on good team put in your fail card just wait for the results and you just see the dejected looks on their faces it's just it's just it's just good it's Priceless it's gold gotta be moderate it's got to be moderate I can see from how what sort of player you are we discussed in the previous video what sort of player you are because you enjoy it so much you
            • 40:00 - 40:30 play it so much and you get the joint out of the interactions and the results and people's reaction so I can see that that's that's more dread while I now I'm more of a timid player and the type who would like would want to fly under the radar would probably just be quiet and I would use I used to think it's the probably the vanilla guy when you're like good guy because I'm not responsibility is almost always relief like oh I feel like okay no
            • 40:30 - 41:00 responsibility I've got to say I reckon vanilla good guy is probably a close second for me oh really so let's play definitely for a different reason yeah yeah as I said you know people underrate how important a good role is to the the vanilla good guy is to play in the game but he can like like first you don't have any responsibilities like real well you still have to pay I play successful missions like five and no real responsibility but as your previous steps you're kind of like ah you
            • 41:00 - 41:30 can pretend to be Maryland you can pretend to be Percival you can I almost go for your life like just do whatever is yeah there's there's no greater compliment in Avalon than playing a vanilla good guy and the Assassin shooting you yeah yes yes I was like yes I've done such a greater not even perceival obvious the vanilla good guy very rare there was like that was a really yeah you're right the great a
            • 41:30 - 42:00 great compliment if that ever happened so but at the same time all of those without any responsibilities whatsoever to the team so that's the beauty of it you it's an opportunity for you to over achieve something without any expectation does that make sense it does yeah so maybe maybe that is it oh it's all a lot Percival that was actually good like helping protecting Marilyn person was Great Britain was great as well yeah it's one
            • 42:00 - 42:30 of those roles where you know as Merlin you're sweating right you're really hoping people don't take note of you whereas Percival is the opposite right you want people to take that yeah yeah yeah yeah so you have to take another vet so let us know what is your favorite roles and why we'd like to know what you think you might it's always things to read like it's fascinating to see what people think and why you might even I would definitely will learn um more things from from that as well potentially
            • 42:30 - 43:00 um and that's it right look anything else that's about it yeah yeah sure shout out to Luke's bunny Morgana hi moogie uh and um thank you so much for watching if you find this useful somehow again hit the like button uh please that'll be really helpful subscribe to us if you haven't already done so we do videos like this review how to play and everything else I'm also on Instagram find me there as well Luke is not anywhere on social media don't try to find Luke um you'll fail maybe maybe not
