55:00 - 55:30 reading uh and I'll start in verse 5 um this is a passage that uh is is Jesus has just risen from the dead and uh he appears to some of his disciples on the Sea of Galilee and it's early in the morning uh his disciples had been out on the boat they had been fishing all night and they hadn't caught anything yet so it's early in the morning and Jesus is standing on the shore and so I'm reading from verse 5 this is Jesus he called out out to them friends haven't you any fish no they answered he said throw your nets

57:00 - 57:30 called emerald in Victoria uh in Melbourne Australia and uh it is Emerald was a is a cool town uh it's a I would call like a bush Town um it's got lots of trees we have puffing Billy this was like a um what's it called like a like a tourist steam train that people go on it's very expensive but it's very nice um and it was a great upbringing it was lovely but um you know I had a different upbringing to some of my friends who lived in the suburbs and so when we would come around a time where we'd have birthday parties um some of my friends
57:30 - 58:00 who lived in the suburbs they would do things like have McDonald's parties they would go to McDonald's and they would have birthday parties there um and you know sometimes today young people in Primary School young ages they have their parties at bounce or at time zone or uh that sort of thing here in Melbourne Australia um but we didn't have that in fact our best birthday parties growing up in Emerald were at a trout Farm we had a local Trout Farm or um a fishing farm and that's where we
58:00 - 58:30 all had our our birthdays now that sounds a little bit strange because if you are not from the bush you'd be like why would you go to a fishing farm and so we'd have our birthdays there and then we would all go there and we'd catch a fish and the thing is with these trout farms or these fishing farms is that um you can actually fish for different types of fish and when you catch them um you pay for them and then you can take them home and you can eat them and so that was an incredible uh experience growing up um a little bit funny because some people from the suburbs don't like that sort of thing
58:30 - 59:00 they're like ew it's a bit gross but we thought it was great and so um a few years ago a couple years ago my sister and I um she has two young boys and so we decided hey let's go back to this Trout Farm this fishing Farm where we grew up going and we'll take her two young boys and we'll teach them how to fish because they've been growing up in the suburbs but we thought they needed a fish experience and so coming up on the screens um is a photo of what we call the big lake now when you go to these
59:00 - 59:30 fishing farms or these trout farms um what happens is um the locals all know that this big lake doesn't have any fish in it really doesn't it doesn't have any fish and obviously with young young people like the two boys that my my two nephews um you kind of need to keep them entertained for a bit because what it is is you'll have this big pond here where you can teach them how to fish you'll fish for a little bit but they're not going to catch anything but as soon as you move over uh to what they call the stocked ponds um you'll catch a fish
59:30 - 60:00 like pretty much instantly in fact um uh we're going to have a quick look at a video of me in one of the stocked ponds what the get it get it come on [Music]
60:00 - 60:30 fishy come on get it so what you would do is you would start at the big pond where um you don't have really catch any fish then after the kids get frustrated that they're not catching fish or they get a bit bored then you would move over to these stocked ponds and if you had to look carefully even though the fish did get away it took about 8 seconds for for me to actually um catch our fish so you obviously don't want to start at the
60:30 - 61:00 stock ponds you want to start at the big ponds so that was very um strategic uh for me but um that was a great experience uh the young um um my young nephews they loved it but I was actually thinking about this particular experience uh one afternoon uh in my home office right before I was supposed to come to church and I remember that day um just really feeling like God was saying to me you need to pick up the Bible and you need to read John chapter 21 and at the time I was thinking off the top of my head I couldn't remember
61:00 - 61:30 what was in John chapter 21 um but I really felt like this uh this this this weight and this this almost like this really Pro big prophetic feeling about John chapter 21 so we're going to have a look at that passage again so we read it earlier and it was when Jesus's disciples had been out uh all night on the uh boat fishing and they really caught nothing then early in the morning Jesus stood on the shore and he called friends haven't you any fish no they answered throw your net on the right
61:30 - 62:00 side of the boat and you will find some when they did they were unable to haul the net because of the large number of fish now if you have never heard this story before and you think it's just about fish can I just tell you that has a deeper meaning a much deeper meaning uh than just catching heaps of fish and having a big fish party although I would definitely like that as well I love fish but um here Jesus actually calls his disciples um people who are going to be fishes of people or fishes of men and if
62:00 - 62:30 you read other gospels and if you read the gospel of Mark or you read the beginning of the Gospel of Luke um people are supposed to be fishes of people it's a prophetic calling to say um these people yes they were fishermen by trade but Jesus is saying you're going to catch more than that you're going to catch people for the kingdom of God you're going to be people who bring in people and point them to who Jesus is and so fast forward to the end of John's gospel here um and you see this metaphor
62:30 - 63:00 of being fishes of people being fulfilled they caught so many fish um that their Nets you know they could barely uh haul the the it in and so a couple of things are happening in this particular chapter in John chapter 21 um the first thing is that when Jesus says from the shore you know throw your net to the right side of the boat and you will find some the disciples re position thems on Jesus's word then the second
63:00 - 63:30 thing that happens and we're picking up halfway through verse 11 Peter dragged the net ashore it was full of large fish 153 but even with so many the net was not torn so not only did they reposition themselves on Jesus's word even though it was a little strange because it's like um they've been fishing all night this is their profession they know what they're doing um there's there's there's no fish they just re slightly reposition themselves and by the way there's a little it's a little bit more
63:30 - 64:00 complicated than that um because you casting a net is a little bit more complicated than just but it's still repositioning themselves ever so slightly but the the second thing is they listened and they respond and and when they responded and when they listened that they caught a lot of fish so they reposition themselves on Jesus's word they trusted him but then when they did and they listened and they responded they caught a lot of fish God was speaking and when we
64:00 - 64:30 reposition ourself in obedience to God's word he will bring the Harvest so I felt so passionately about this particular word and I felt like this word from John chapter 21 was for our church and this was just a a few years ago I think it was about uh 2021 I believe and it was at the end of 2021 and I was so um um um convinced that this was for our church that we were needing to reposition ourself because a
64:30 - 65:00 harvest is coming a harvest is coming and are we ready are we repositioned um on God's word on his calling on what we believe he's called us to do as a church and are we listening and are we responding because we there is a harvest that's going to come the question is are we positioned for it and are we ready to catch what what God is bringing our way and so I felt so passionate about this
65:00 - 65:30 at the start of 2022 I took our youth staff um because I'm I'm one of the youth pastors I took our youth staff um to uh all sites and all interns to this Trout Farm and so to this fish farm now can I just say some of the youth staff were not super impressed that we were going to a fish farm they're like a bit like ill um but that's okay it's a good experience for them and if you're watching at home and you've never been to a fish farm it's a great experience so you know you to may want to uh get along with this object lesson as well so
65:30 - 66:00 I took them to this art fish farm this Trout Farm and I thought my plan to have this object lesson or really to drive this prophetic word home to them was that I was going to start at the Big Lake I was going to start at the big lake because all the locals know there's no fish in there and so what I was going to do is I was going to say hey guys teaching them how to fish teaching them the technique um and for half an hour I was going to have all the staff all the interns fish for half an hour then I was going to bring them to the shore then I was going to talk about how we can do the same thing in Ministry
66:00 - 66:30 over and over and get no results but when we position ourselves on God's word and we slightly reposition and I was going to then go to the stocked ponds hey and straight away knowing that they're going to get a fish and talk about how we reposition oursel to catch the Harvest the funny thing is after um fishing for half an hour I bring the youth staff bring the interns all to the bank of this big lake and then I'm
66:30 - 67:00 telling them I'm preaching to them from John chapter 21 talking prophetic prophetically about how this Harvest is coming I kid you not a fish jumps out of the big pond that's got no fish in it and lands like one and a half 2 m away now I say this and sometimes people are like ah she being Evangelistic with her story did that really happen is she exaggerating I've got receipts so we're going to have a look at this video cuz I
67:00 - 67:30 can prove that this actually happened let's get it let's get it let's get it why is it doing I think it's diseas what are you doing it's about to die yes right in the middle of Aon ation right in the middle of the preach right in the middle of the preach all right you can stay there just caught a fish in
67:30 - 68:00 the Fish Lake she told us that we can't C we can't catch how funny is that how funny is that right in the middle of me preaching a fish jumps out of absolutely nowhere now that literally is a funny story but also how random is that I've actually think that that's too random to be random I actually think that was God speaking to us in that moment you staff have a laugh um the fish story is a very funny story that we've been telling for many years but we really believe that
68:00 - 68:30 when we reposition oursel in obedience to God's word that he will bring that Harvest and when we're looking at John chapter 21 um we actually see that it's the verse is very and this passage is very specific about the number of fish it says 153 fish now when you read that I think there's got to be a meaning behind that and so if you look up what the meaning is of 153 fish you're going to find a 100 different Scholars have a hundred different opinions as to what
68:30 - 69:00 this particular meaning is but I just remember at the time uh reading one in particular uh um interpretation of what the 153 fish meant and um one thought is that back in the Greco Roman world back in Jesus's time the thought was that there was only 153 fish species uh in the known world so some people believe that when they say 153 fish that Jesus is actually saying you are going to catch a huge Harvest of people and
69:00 - 69:30 they're going to be from every single Walk of Life now whether or not this is the right interpretation we're actually not going to know save that for when we get to heaven and we have a list of things to ask Jesus to clarify um that's what I'm going to do but I actually still believe that that God was speaking to me in that moment and I believe that he was saying Shel that's what I'm saying to City Life Church we have over 130 different nationalities we have got people from every Walk of Life but I believe that
69:30 - 70:00 Jesus is and God was saying to me in that moment hey we actually want to go further like we we don't want to um cruise and say hey look we've got heaps of different nationalities we're really Multicultural you know we've got people from everywhere you know we we don't want to stop there we actually want to go further and it's not just about different nationalities or different cultures but it's different backgrounds different walks of life different upbringings different socioeconomic background God is going to I believe God is going to bring people from out of absolutely
70:00 - 70:30 nowhere places where we never thought there would be fish never thought there would be fish fish are going to be coming out of there and that's what I really felt when that fish came out of the pond that's got no fish how many times have you seen a fish jump out of a pond and land on a bank I'm sorry never for me um and especially one that doesn't really supposed to have fish in it and I really believe that that was God saying you're going to have people
70:30 - 71:00 come to your church and they are going to be from every single Walk of Life um and you know um um they're going to come from places where you thought that there's God couldn't even reach and people are going to come but are we ready are we ready are we ready to embrace people are we ready to Value people are we ready to tell people that they belong and they have a place here um have we got room for people are we ready you know looking ahead to 2025 and
71:00 - 71:30 2026 God has given us as a church City Life a vision of overflowing overflowing God's love in action and so we're really believing for an overflow of people coming to know Jesus but an overflow without structure actually leads to collapse and so if the disciples net had torn because it says that their Nets didn't tear but if they if it had Tor had it torn they would have lost everything that they had caught and in
71:30 - 72:00 the same way I believe that we need to reposition ourself and we need to prepare um so our Nets don't break when God sends us the Harvest and I believe that one way we can do this is life groups life groups isn't just a nice addition to our church um they are the net that is going to hold our Harvest we are so need to expand to grow and to multiply our life groups in order for
72:00 - 72:30 people to be able to come to be connected to be discipled to be in community to be uh in a place where they feel like they belong that they're loved that they're valued and so how do we do that we actually need each and every person to step up and out this year and so you might be in a life group right now and saying oh well you know I don't really have I don't know if I'm called to lead this might be your year where God is actually tapping you on the shoulder and saying hey I actually need you to step up and out because you are a
72:30 - 73:00 vital part of the net that is going to help bring in this Harvest who's going to help care who's going to help um you know have Arms Wide Open to catch these people who are going to come to know who Jesus is come into relationship and come into our incredible Community Psalm 23 says my cup overflows but the Overflow isn't meant to just be wasted it's meant to bless others uh another verse Colossians 29-10 actually reminds us that that in Christ
73:00 - 73:30 we have been brought to um fullness together uh the Trinity itself Jesus God Holy Spirit uh it's a small group it's a little life group it's a small group a Divine relationship and we are act and we being made in the image of God can't actually Express the fullness of Christ apart from community community is so important life groups are so important it's where we do life together it is where we have relationship it's where we have our connection um um please let's
73:30 - 74:00 let's get involved in a life group and so uh I want to read again from uh Ephesians 4 uh 11 to2 and this is Paul and he's writing we think it's poor uh so Christ himself gave the apostles the prophets the evangelists the pastors and teachers to equip his people for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up this passage here um it talks about the role of church leaders the role of
74:00 - 74:30 church leaders isn't to just do all the ministry themselves um my job as a pastor isn't to just do everything myself the the the job of the pastors the leaders the teachers the apostles uh the evangelism the evangelists um um is actually to equip people for works of service our mission is not to just attend church but it's to engage it's to train to be equipped and to step into our calling and so we want to see people move from being consumers of church to
74:30 - 75:00 contributors of church we don't want people to just be Spectators especially in an online um uh environment but we want people to be participators and we want to not just be attenders we want to be discipl makers and so over the next two years we are are going to be practically uh training you equipping you uh in in Practical Ministry and so we we want to see you guys uh be able to really uh uh have just more confidence to be able to pray
75:00 - 75:30 uh for yourselves pray for your families and um knowing also how to share the gospel how to share Jesus uh um really clearly to people how to share your own testimony we want to be able to develop leaders who will disciple others and we want to have this uh multip multiplying effect um of faith and transformation and so last week uh Andrew she's in m Minister spoke an incredible message and he asked the question where is your Rome and we heard
75:30 - 76:00 this incredible prophetic word um um that was actually spoken over our church and I don't know if you guys know this but that original uh um audio from last week was actually the original audio from 1999 that wasn't a voiceover that was the original um um uh um Prophet actually speaking and that actually gives me so much Goosebumps to think that this prophetic word is literally things that we have seen come to pass
76:00 - 76:30 and that we are right now experiencing and having come to pass and I don't think I've ever been any more confident to say that we are stepping into everything that God has called us to be everything that God has uh um built up all the foundations the things that we have gone before us um it's very very exciting because we are going to see that come to fruition and we're going to see that fulfilled so back in 2018 I was writing a bible program for our youth ministry um and um
76:30 - 77:00 I love the Book of Luke and acts uh their volume one and volume two so Gospel of Luke I know there's John is in the middle of that but Gospel of Luke is part one and then the book of Acts is part two that's the same writer who's writing that and so there's this incredible theme uh in between these two books and it's really it talks about how um in Luke how Jesus is actually empowered for Ministry by the holy Spirit but then in Acts we see that that same holy spirit is actually empowering
77:00 - 77:30 the disciples uh to continue the mission and the work and the ministry of Jesus and it's really awesome uh in Acts chapter 1:8 it says you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you will be my Witnesses in Jerusalem Judea Samaria and the ends of the Earth and there's this massive commissioning and and it's really the the thesis statement of the whole book of Acts to say this is our our mission this is our ministry that the Holy Spirit has empowered us to do but Jesus has told us this is what's going to
77:30 - 78:00 happen we are to reach the ends of the Earth and um um back in 2018 I actually had a focus at the end of this Bible reading program and um this was rolled out by the way in 2019 um our youth ministry was called uh at the focus was empowered so empowered by the spirit and I really felt to ask the same question where is your Rome where is Rome where is Rome because in Hall's day Rome was considered the center of the known world and uh the book of Acts actually if you
78:00 - 78:30 have a look at it it ends pretty abruptly in Acts chapter 28 um without actually seeing that fulfillment of Acts chapter 18 you know uh um Jerusalem Judea Samaria and the ends of the Earth and so um some people suggest Scholars suggest that it ends abruptly because it's our commission as disciples after the fact after um the early church to continue this mission to reach the ends of the Earth but when you think about it it's ironic because Rome
78:30 - 79:00 was the center of the earth um and it the it hadn't been fulfilled but Rome was super strategic back in the day like super strategic because it was a hub of infrastructure and Roads that connected the entire known world and the roads leading out of Rome were Pathways into all of the Nations so to actually for Paul to actually have gotten to Rome and the book ends in Acts chapter 28 in Rome really symbolize the fact that the
79:00 - 79:30 gospel then could go out through these roads to reach the rest of the world the ends of the Earth and so it was very strategic Rome was very strategic so when I I posed the question in 2019 where is your Rome I actually answered this for myself and I said Rome is the internet in 2020 the following year I said Rome is the internet because if you think about what roads what
79:30 - 80:00 infrastructure how do we reach the ends of the Earth today it's the internet every most people have access to it we can reach places that we never thought we could reach people we could never think thought we could reach and I really felt like that's where God had called us to obviously we then had um the pandemic in 2020 and I thought that's the Fulfillment of what I was thinking about Rome uh uh where is where is my Rome um but it is ironic but I don't think it's really ironic I think it's I think it's a God thing that years
80:00 - 80:30 later here we are in 2025 and we're asking the same question again where is your room and I now am the online Pastor I feel like I'm stepping up and into what God had placed on my heart even five six years ago but the question today is where is your Rome my Rome I feel is online Church space at the moment but where is your room where is God calling you to go to reach the ends
