- 14:30 - 15:00 good morning good to see all of you thank you so much for being here especially if you're visiting with us don't forget to fill out that connect card in front of you or scan the QR code and fill it out on your phone there's a little girl that came home from Sunday school and she was exciting waving her paper and says mommy my my teacher says that I drew the most unusual Christmas picture she had ever seen and so the mother takes the picture
- 15:00 - 15:30 she begins to look at it and study it and she's concluded that yes it is a very peculiar Christmas you know picture and she says this is It's wonderfully drawn but why have you drawn all these people riding on the back of an of an airplane and she says well mother that's the flight to Egypt and the little girl said you know and she's sort of disappointed that you know the meaning isn't just obvious to to anyone who looks at the picture but mother said well why is this
- 15:30 - 16:00 mean looking man sitting on the front of the plane and well Mama that's Pontius the pilot and so the girl is just getting more impatient because she just doesn't seem why somebody just can't see what it really is for what she Drew and so mom begins to study the picture even more for a moment and she sort of summon the courage to ask you know I see you've got Mary and you've got Joseph and you've got the baby but but who is that
- 16:00 - 16:30 fat man sitting behind Mary the little girl just sighed and said Mom can't you tell that's round John virgin you know we need more laughs out of this section next time I know I have bad jokes but it is what it is the time of the year it's finally over right Christmas is is finally over I'm excited about that I don't know about you but I'm excited when when Christmas sleeves
- 16:30 - 17:00 because it's it's every year you know you go over your budget and you go off your diet right we eat too much we spend too much it's over say what you want about Christmas but we do prioritize the giving of gifts the receiving of gifts we get anxious about the right gift we want to make sure that we're getting someone the right gift we want to make sure that we're getting the one thing that we've wished for the one thing that we want you might say well Christmas isn't about presents okay that's fine you tell yourself that but you're not going to tell your kids your grand grandkids your nieces your nephews and all those you
- 17:00 - 17:30 buy gifts for because we've come to expect gifts we've come to expect gifts giving gifts has been a practice throughout Generations it's something we've always done giftgiving is just a part of who we are we were created in the image of God with the same characteristics as our heavenly father and we know God the father is the greatest Gift Giver of all time amen he's given us more than we can even be begin to imagine it goes beyond our
- 17:30 - 18:00 imaginations all the good and the blessings that God has given us so what I want to do this morning as I want to spend just a few minutes just talking about a gift a gift that I believe brings significance to any season of life to any generation of Life uh to to any life at all and to do that I want to start with probably one of the most mindboggling verses in John chapter I had that up there John chapter 1 and verse1 14 the word became flesh
- 18:00 - 18:30 and made his dwelling among us we have seen his glory the glory of the one and only son who came from the father full of grace and full of truth I say mind-boggling because it is when you start to try to understand the the Incarnation when you try to understand how Jesus can be fully God and fully man it's one of those things that you just going to have to to put it on that list that there are certain things you're not going to know that you're not going to fully understand on this side at least of Eternity because God says my thoughts are are my thoughts they're not your
- 18:30 - 19:00 thoughts my ways are are are my ways and they're not your ways Isaiah chapter 55 and verse 8 so while the Incarnation surely is a mystery I believe the the reasoning why has always been clear why God did this why God allowed this and made this happen it's always because of love it's always been about love so again I want to talk about just for a few minutes
- 19:00 - 19:30 about God's greatest gift of love and to do that we're going to have a little a backdrop what I mean is a little bit of a story as to why why we have John chapter 1 and verse1 14 well human beings sin that's our greatest problem sin we fall short of God's glory we fall short of God's expectations the greatest fundamental human problem is that we are all separated from God and we deserve nothing but punishment because of our sin sins the only thing we deserve from
- 19:30 - 20:00 God Is His holy and righteous anger and the greatest act of anger will be when God cast sin into hell Eternal punishment Eternal separation so our greatest need was to be saved from God's Wrath our greatest needs was was to be saved from God's holy anger and our greatest need was a savior we needed saving so in John chapter 3 there's a nighttime conversation
- 20:00 - 20:30 happening between Jesus and one of the Pharisees named Nicodemus Nicodemus probably had this mindset that all Israel needed was just a a really good teacher we need the ultimate teacher and so he tells Jesus in verse two of John chapter 3 that we know that you're a teacher sent from God we can see the things that you do and the way you speak the way that you carry yourself and we know that you have come from God and so Jesus tells Nicodemus in in verse three truly I say to you no one
- 20:30 - 21:00 can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again in other words you you don't need a teacher you need a savior you don't need another Rabbi you need a savior you don't need to be retaught you don't need to be tweaked we need to be scrapped and we need to be started over that's how bad our sin condition is that's how bad our separation is we need to be reborn we need to be started over and that's what Jesus is talking about Paul would go on in Romans chapter 6 in verse four to talk about how we died and and and were
- 21:00 - 21:30 with Christ in baptism when we died we were buried with him through the waters of baptism he says that our old sinful selves are crucified with Christ and that we go down into the Waters of baptism we die with Christ but as we come up we are raised into the newness of life we're raised to live a new life so that same power that raised Jesus from the grave is the same power that helps us to live new lives because we've been born born again now at the time
- 21:30 - 22:00 Nicodemus couldn't see this he didn't understand it it's sort of like we are with the Incarnation just mindboggling what do you mean Nicodemus what what do you mean that you expect us to go back into our mother's womb and be born again see he doesn't get it and Jesus says no born again I'm talking about being born of the water and born of the spirit and by the time you get to verse 9 Nicodemus of course says to a little bit
- 22:00 - 22:30 confused and we might sort of on this side of Eternity on this side of the story we might say you know or this side of the Cross not eternity but we might say well Nicodemus is just really confused and he might be he might be confused but I think man has always been confused it's always had a difficulty I guess conceiving of a Salvation that cannot be attained through our own efforts when the disciples asked Jesus in Matthew chapter 19:25 they had this he's had this conversation with the Rich Young Ruler right he's talking about how
- 22:30 - 23:00 hard it is for for rich people to get into heaven the disciples then ask well who can be saved like this is almost too difficult for us to conceive of who who in the world is going to be saved it's this is too difficult for man to be saved Jesus you're making this too difficult and Jesus reminds them sure yeah with people it's impossible but with God he says all things are possible and see that's our struggle to this day the struggle knowing that we cannot save ourselves
- 23:00 - 23:30 and we find that difficult to accept salvation is a complete work of God and what Jesus is explaining to Nicodemus starting in verse 14 is this new birth is possible because of three things the sacrifice of Jesus the love of God and the faith of man and you might think well what would lead God to what would cause Jesus to be lifted up on a cross what would cause Jesus to go through what he went through to to to
- 23:30 - 24:00 die for everyone I mean I don't even want to hold the door for most people right I want to cut them off in traffic don't pull out in front of me I won't but what would cause Jesus to die for everyone John 3:16 God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life it's the most
- 24:00 - 24:30 memorized verse in all the Bible it's the verse that really shows us why history is separated between BC and AD it's the whole verse in one Bible excuse me it's the whole Bible in one verse it's the gospel in one sentence this is how you settle your entire Destiny with this one verse Ephesians 317 Paul says may your roots of trust go deep into the soil of God's love that's what John 3:16 is about it's the why of
- 24:30 - 25:00 Salvation the why of the Incarnation it's the why of the crucifixion and the why is simple it's love you see you and I had a problem we couldn't fix it was unfixable but God so loved you that he sent his son to die in your place and that's a great love that's a love that goes beyond our comprehension it goes beyond our understanding it's a love that cannot be coerced it's a there is
- 25:00 - 25:30 absolutely nothing you can do to make God love you more nothing there is absolutely nothing nothing nothing nothing you can do to make God love you any less and the Reason God cannot love you more and God cannot love you less is because God loves with a perfect love it's a perfect love it's a love that never changes John is why he says over and over God is is love his nature is love
- 25:30 - 26:00 he says in John 3:16 God loves everyone the totality of mankind every single one of them he loves them he loves the people in this world it's a love that opens the door so that everyone who believes could have eternal life and what we fail to recognize sometimes is that the choice God gives everyone to believe some won't some some won't believe and that's a hard pill to
- 26:00 - 26:30 swallow that there is an option not to believe in fact reading verse 16 if you read it in its context you'll learn that God sent his son into the world so that the world could be saved through him but not everyone is going to believe in Jesus not everyone cares who Jesus is not everyone believes that Jesus is the one and only son of God not everyone in the world wants to walk in the light and so Jesus says that whoever does not believe they stand R demned whoever rejects the son will not
- 26:30 - 27:00 see life but instead the only thing you'll see is the wrath of God and so it always brings up the question well then how can an all loving God punish people with his wrath because I thought he was all loving I thought he loved people right it's not a popular message to preach but it's a clear teaching in Scripture that not everyone is going to turn from their sin and receive the grace of Jesus not everyone's going to do that that's that the destiny ation of the unrepentant
- 27:00 - 27:30 will be Eternal separation from God Eternal separation from their creator eternally separated from whom they were destined to be connected to it's a vast concept and I hope in the coming year 2025 we'll talk more about that but for the sake of our time just briefly I want to say this about God's love and God's Wrath because God's holy just and righteous character he has to hold unrighteous people accountable
- 27:30 - 28:00 God's nature is love God's nature is Holiness but God's love is different from our often view of lenient and affirming love because that's what people want most most from God what people want most from God is for God to look at them and say you know what I'm going to love you the way that you are you don't you don't change I'm going to love you the way that you are I'm going to learn to love you the way that you are completely ignoring the
- 28:00 - 28:30 ways of God but if if God's love were like that you know what he would have never punished Adam and Eve he would have never sent the flood he would have never sent the plagues he would have never punished anyone in all of history and while we might think well that maybe that's a good idea I can promise you I can promise you it's not it's not a good idea the truth is that scripture in in scripture is that God is Holy and sin cannot stand in the presence of a holy
- 28:30 - 29:00 God unless that sin is taken away unless there is something there to cover that sin to take care of that sin and that's John 3:16 that's John 3:16 that's what our holy and loving God did for you and for for me 1 John 3:15 listen to some of these verses I don't have them on the screen but I do have the the references but 1 John 3:15 Jesus came to take away our sins because in him there is no sin
- 29:00 - 29:30 1 John 2:2 he himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins and not only for our sins but for the sins of the whole world 1 Peter 2:24 he himself bore our sins in his body on the tree that we might die to sin and live to righteousness by his wounds you have been healed you see what God did you see what he did through Jesus he took care of our problem he offered a solution to our problem Hebrews 10 teaches that it is
- 29:30 - 30:00 God's will for us that we be made Holy by the sacrifice of Jesus that once and for all sacrifice took care of our sin for God so loved the world that he gave he offered his one and only son Jesus to take away our sins he offers to take away our sins through the sacrifice of his son because again we've got a problem that we can't fix you can't work your way out of of it you can't earn your way out of it the only solution is
- 30:00 - 30:30 to believe to accept to cling to to trust to place your faith in Jesus that's it that's it that's why Jesus is the greatest gift he's the only gift that completely satisfies you see our greatest gift was our greatest need but again the decision is up to us Jesus says whoever believes in him will have eternal life now we know belief is more than just a intellectual
- 30:30 - 31:00 knowledge it's more than just knowing about Jesus it's more than just agreeing with Jesus the the devil affirms more true facts about Jesus than we even begin to know the problem is that the devil hates those facts he wishes they were not true Jesus says I am the bread of life right whoever comes to me shall not hunger whoever believes in me shall never thirst John 6:35 you see believing is a coming to Jesus so as to find your
- 31:00 - 31:30 soul hunger satisfied your soul thirst satisfied it's embracing Jesus as your treasure your soul satisfying treasure that's what it means to believe that's why Faith isn't a work you you can't make it happen you can't make yourself treasure what you don't treasure that's why it's a gift by Grace you have been saved through faith it's not your own doing it is the gift of God so believing then is
- 31:30 - 32:00 trust it's trust it's following it's relying on it's clinging to it's a it's a word that encompasses obedience to God's commands and endurance in God's word it's a word that ultimately points to the love of God in return before we close I just want to mention two verses from Romans 3 and Romans 6 for all have sinned and fallen short of
- 32:00 - 32:30 the glory of God and are justified by his grace as a what as a gift through the Redemption that is in Christ Jesus Romans 6 but now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end eternal life for the wages of sin is death but the what fre free gift of God is eternal eternal life in Christ Jesus our
- 32:30 - 33:00 lord Paul says that sin's only currency is eternal separation from God but the Bible makes it clear very very clear that God doesn't want anyone to be lost second Peter 3:9 I don't want anyone to be lost but he wants all to come to repentance 1 Timothy 2:4 he wants all people to be saved and come to a knowledge of Truth God doesn't want Eternal
- 33:00 - 33:30 separation from those created in His image so Paul says eternal life it's a free gift it's a free gift it's a free gift it's not a wage it's not something you earn it's definitely something we don't deserve it's something God God's grace gives you he says here's a gift God says I want you to have eternal life I want you to live for I want you to live forever with me I don't want you to be
- 33:30 - 34:00 eternally separated from me I want you to be with me all you have to do just just die to yourself live for me now chase after me now God says I love you so much I love you with a love that you can never ever ever get to the bottom of you're going to spend all of eternity just just digging down to that well of love and you're never going to find the bottom because that's how great it is that's how enduring it is that's what
- 34:00 - 34:30 it's talked about in Psalm 136 that God has an enduring love he's talking about the God's love it goes beyond the duration of time right we know that um God has always been he always will be God was not created therefore God didn't become loving at the time of creation God's always been loving he always will be loving and in eternity the new heavens and the new Earth God is going to pour out out that love like we have never seen that is
- 34:30 - 35:00 beyond our imagination and it's because of that same love that God says I'm giving you a free gift I'm giving you Jesus you know the first part of John 3:16 John 3:16 is really broken up into two different parts the first part is what God has done for all people for God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son God said this is I'm doing for you you had a problem you couldn't
- 35:00 - 35:30 fix it but because of my grace and my love I'm going to offer the solution and then the second part is our response it's the way we respond to that gift we going to accept the gift God's not going to give you that gift like Grandma does that pair of socks for Christmas right like you're you're taking it and mother says you better smile and say thank you not the way it is God says you don't have to take my gift I'm offering it to you so whoever
- 35:30 - 36:00 believes in him will have eternal life and so my prayer is that if you haven't yet believed this morning if you haven't yet been born again born of the water born of the spirit as Jesus talked about as Paul talked about there in Romans 6 as he talked about in other parts about being born again about being in Christ about allowing that blood to cover your sin so that you can stand before God holy and righteous if you haven't done that yet we encourage you to do that we don't want to rush you into that process because it's a it's a
- 36:00 - 36:30 big decision we want you to be ready for that decision but I think most of us have done that and I think most of us just need a good reminder every once in a while of the free gift that God gave us the love that he gives us every single day and how we respond to that love let's close in a word of prayer father we love you so much we again thank you for the day youve blessed us with for waking us up for allowing us to come here and just to surround ourselves not only with other Believers but to surround ourselves in your
- 36:30 - 37:00 presence father I pray that we would begin to understand more and more your love that we would begin to wrap ourselves in your love and so much so that father we go out into this world in in a world of darkness and that we just we become people of love we do that so much that others begin to wonder and they begin to ask questions father as you said in your word we can give people a reason for the hope that we have within us father help us to be better people of love and father again we pray for those
- 37:00 - 37:30 who haven't yet accepted who haven't yet believed who haven't yet responded to your offer of Salvation by being born again father I pray that you would be with them this morning convict their hearts help them understand the the severity of that decision and the significance of making that decision father again thank you for every person here most of all thank you for Jesus thank you for his love for his sacrifice for his example and for the blood that continually cleans cleanses us from our sins it's in Christ's name I
- 37:30 - 38:00 pray amen let's stand and sing a song for our encouragement [Music] s for you and for [Music]
- 38:00 - 38:30 [Music] are wonderful of Pro prise for you
- 38:30 - 39:00 fory [Music] and are
- 39:00 - 39:30 [Music] Jesus calling [Music] calling seated
- 39:30 - 40:00 Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross thee all [Music] in the
- 40:00 - 40:30 cross in the cross [Music] [Music] Glory near The Cross of L of God
- 40:30 - 41:00 [Music] bring from [Music] to the the cross my [Music] [Applause]
