It's a massive show. Our last Shanghai video was about 3 and 1/2 hours long. So, settle in, get a drink. If you want to come back and do this video in stages, do so at your leisure. However you want to watch this video. It'll be a long one, but we're going to see every single car from the Shanghai Auto Show
            • 00:30 - 01:00 2025. We've got eight holes to go around. More than 100 brands to cover. As ever with this video, I'll do a little counter in the top corner over there, one of those corners where we count the Chinese brands. Some you can debate whether they're Chinese or not. If they're half half joint ventures, like Smart, for example, maybe I won't count them. Maybe I'll count them as a half. Let's see. But we've got a lot of new stuff going on here. Here we've got a lot of new production cars, a lot of new concept cars, and some real trends to follow, including a big fight back
            • 01:00 - 01:30 from the non-Chinese brands. So, without further ado, let's get started. So, I'm going to spin the camera around now and we'll start as ever in Shanghai with the the home favorites, let's call it, the the home market. So, SIC, Shanghai Automotive, this is their home turf. They always tend to bring some new stuff here. What we're going to do is go around this hall. So, we'll start on the right with MG and we'll come back around
            • 01:30 - 02:00 to Wrongway. Over here, you might see it as row. That's that's how it's spelled, but the Chinese pronunciation is Wrongway. Of course, SEIC have a few brands. MG is one. Wrongway is the other. They have Rising, which is part of Wrongway now. It used to be a brand on its own. Now, it's back part of Rising again. Part of Wrongway again. They've got IM going abroad into some markets as as IM presented by MG Motors. And they've got Maxis as well. And of course, they build some other foreign cars here in China as well. But the big
            • 02:00 - 02:30 thing on the MG stand, as well as a few small updates to the MG Cyber, I believe, is this, the Cyber X concept car. So, it's our first concept car of the show. Reminds me a lot of the Iicar V23 in terms of its overall proportions. Very chunky. You'll notice also the pop-up headlights. Now, this is clearly a prototype because one of them has got stuck up, unless it's winking at me, but I'm not sure. One of them has got stuck up. Now, these are generally all handmade, these prototypes, so that kind
            • 02:30 - 03:00 of thing can happen. Kind of a technical glitch in there, but I think that's quite funky. I like it boxy styling, like the compact footprint. It's clearly got some good ground clearance under there as well. So, it looks like it should be a genuine off-roader. This one might be a four-seater like the V23. Not entirely sure. Might be a five-seater. They haven't given us any interior shots of the Cyber X, but that is MG's second Cyber car. The other one, of course, is the Cyberster. We'll take a quick look at it. They also have the MG5, which is
            • 03:00 - 03:30 getting on a bit now, and the MG6 also getting on a bit, and the MG7. Now, this one actually might make it to international markets eventually. It's been around for a while, but they haven't actually taken it to international markets yet. Tell me if you like the look of that, cuz I do. I think that looks absolutely fantastic. But this is the Cyster here, of course, with the scissor doors. Have a quick look at the cabin. It's four screen layout. You got three behind the driver there, behind the steering wheel, and one just down in the middle. Looks pretty much the same cosmetically to the
            • 03:30 - 04:00 the original Cyber. So, I'm not sure if there are any changes to that or not. Nice paint color, though. I do like that. And there's another black one in the back corner, but I'm not sure if they're going to maybe make a more sporty version of it. This one's got a carbon fiber bonnet with Morris Garages on it. How far that company has changed from its uh original title, but MG, we're going to call that our first Chinese company because they are now 100% owned in China and they pretty much
            • 04:00 - 04:30 do most of their stuff here even though they're still headquartered in the UK in London apparently. Now one of the other things that SEI do sic do is they build Volkswagens. So Volkswagen have two partners in China actually three I believe that make make cars for them. FAW First Automotive Works is one and SIC is the other. And this is the one that the Volkswagen have come to the show with three concepts. This is the
            • 04:30 - 05:00 one from SLIC. It's called the ID era. And they haven't really shown us much of the inside. You see the the windows and doors are closed. We can't get onto the stage. But this one is Volkswagen's first extended range vehicle. It's a six-seater full size SUV. And it's really part of their fightback here in China cuz we've I mean I myself have complained about Volkswagen a lot that they've been really slow with their tech and they've had problems with Kiad, their software company. Well, this looks
            • 05:00 - 05:30 pretty neat. This is very much got the the Volkswagen DNA about it. It's got soft soft lines that also have some kind of strength to them at the same time. It sounds like marketing speak that, doesn't it? But I like this. This is the the ID era. Let me just slide through here. Now, one of the great things actually about the Shanghai show this year is it does feel like there are less people on the press days. So, we might be able to get much more closer to cars than we would otherwise. But there you go. That is an extended range EV.
            • 05:30 - 06:00 Volkswagen's first. That one is not built on the platform that Xpong has given to them. They've also got cars like the Lamando L over there. They've got a GTX version of the ID3 over here. So that's probably kind of a a soft softly sporty version of the ID3. Can we get inside to see if they've done anything with the interior? Got games console controllers there. Look at that. So I assume you can play games on it. This of course is one of the old original MEB platform ones. So, they got these rubbish kind of capacitive touch
            • 06:00 - 06:30 buttons there for your your vents and the the two wind the two screen two switches over there for your windows which you have to press another button to change your to open your rear windows but hopefully they're moving away from that with the the new brand of stuff. Got a Pat Pro here. You'll recognize some of these brands from Europe. I'm not even sure if they still sell a Pat in Europe. And then one second. There we go. Also this one which has a different Chinese Tiguan L Pro which of course is a European model but that's the big deal
            • 06:30 - 07:00 here on the SEIC Volkswagen stand with the ID era. They've also got ID Aura and ID Evo and you'll get to those in a moment. So then Audi. Now this is SEIC Audi. So sic also build Audi's here in China as do FAW but the the new Audi with Oh actually it is it is over here. There we go. That's good. Let's see if we can get over to this one. Audi as you may know
            • 07:00 - 07:30 have launched an a Chinaon Audi brand which doesn't have four rings has four letters. This stand is literally written on the the the show planners. Audi four rings, Audi 4 letters. So, here it is. This is the Audi E5. If you can get a look at that around all these cleaners. They're clearly setting up here to have some kind of live show. There you go. So, that's the production version of a car that we saw last year. Sorry, I'm trying

So, this guy's going to let me in. Let's just quickly get a good look at this car from the front. There you go. So, you see there's no four rings on the grill. So,
            • 08:00 - 08:30 it's got kind of lighting around the outside of the grill. Let's have a quick step up here. I'll just try and zoom back out again actually so we can get ourselves a full view. And there you go. So, got lights across the plastic grill there. Try and be really quick here so I don't annoy them before they set up for the show. Let's have a quick look into the window. Look at the interior. That's really quite nice in there. They've got dual wireless chargers. They've got some microfiber suede across the the dash rails there at the bottom. Got a fabric here all across
            • 08:30 - 09:00 the back. They've got a full width screen from side to side. And as you can see, also camera mirrors, too. So, your little screens for your mirrors are in there. Very sort of German aesthetics in there. That's a that's a reflection of a lady on the wall. That's not on the actually printed on the seat. And then they've got this kind of assistant here. I'm not sure if I can point with my finger. That black bit in the middle of the dashboard there, that's like their live assistant. So, she can you can talk to that and she'll do cool things. Let's get a quick look at the back end as well from closeup. Would like to see inside the boot there, but we can't. Yeah,
            • 09:00 - 09:30 that's the E5 Sportback. So, Volk Audi are planning three three cars in this this Audi Audi four letters. They're planning three cars in China in 2025. So, we'll probably get another concept maybe at the Changdu Auto Show if not before that. Notice also there's a LAR unit on top of the screen as well. This one should be able to do some level of autonomous driving. that we have to be careful about what we say about autonomous driving now because the rules
            • 09:30 - 10:00 in China have changed slightly after a few accidents that have happened recently. People basically just giving over full control to the car and not paying attention. The government has decided to step in and say we got to be more careful about the wording now. It's basically supervised driving just like FSD supervised basically. And here we got the A5L Sportback, but I think that's all also in international markets already. So yeah, these Volkswagen Audi,
            • 10:00 - 10:30 I won't call those Chinese brands, even though I mean technically is is Audi is that a Chinese brand given that they're made here? It's built, by the way, on an sic platform from IM. That logo just over there. We'll go over to those in a minute. It's built on the I think it's called the Nebula platform. I could be wrong with the name. 800 volt. Pretty good. Getting a few beeps here from the Wooling stand. Good to see
            • 10:30 - 11:00 Wooling at the show again. This is the five door. The five door Hong Guang. You can't buy it, I don't think, with this nice furry coating on it. They've covered the entire car in this. Look, even inside the car, you got fur over the seats, fur on the steering wheel. There's a big thing about capy bars going on in social media these days and they're making everything like a capy bar. I don't know what it's all about, but there you go. Let's see if you get a bit more space in the boot. I don't even know how to get into the boot on this

Do we get any more more space in the back of a five door William Hong Wang? Yes, I'd say that's that's more than you get in the standard version. And a bit more boot, a bit more leg space in the back as well. Interior setup's relatively similar with two fairly small screens there at the front. And no panoramic roof on this car either, but this is cheap and cheerful. You can pick this one up for
            • 11:30 - 12:00 about 60 thou maybe 50,000 R&B. It is of course an EV. probably has about a 30 kW motor, so it it'll toot along quite nicely, but it's not a super car. They've also shown they're also showing us the 2025 Shinguang, which is their saloon. See if I can get inside. See, have a look inside. I haven't driven this one yet. I'd like to, so I'm not entirely sure what's changed. They've got a racy looking paint job on that one. One car I will show you though,

It's not really a K car cuz it is bigger than a K car, but it looks like one. Little boxy fronts. This is kind of like Wooling's bread and butter. This little vans. There are tons of Wooling vans all over China. But a sliding rear door there. And this Wow, look at the look at the door. It's basically metal inside with a leather handle. Uh cheap plastic door handle there. But you've got an actual

So, it's a kind of a joint venture with General Motors. actually probably the only profitable part of General Motors in China at the moment because Wooling absolutely smashed their sales every year with about 80,000 sales a month. This is a Maxis Max Chari van. Chargi is a branded tea shop in China. So, they're selling some of those here.
            • 15:00 - 15:30 Maxis, of course, in several international markets. Originally a British brand, I believe, but they got a pickup truck. People walking around with balloon dogs here, which is quite fun. And then a pickup truck with a a camper van on the back of it. Let's see if they've got anything new over at the back of Maxis. I'm not entirely sure what they had before, but they obviously going pretty big on the pickups here. They don't sell many pickups in China. It's not a massive pickup truck market, but other markets like Australia, South

I'll show you around the front of that in a moment after I'm behind finish this back of this guy's shop. And this one, I think we've seen a few times. This is the electric sedan. They might have updated this slightly. Look at the interior on that. If you can see inside the cabin, but it looks like the seats have got tons of leg room in there. Dashboard looks really sort of futuristic as well. Tiny little camera mirrors on there. Love the wheels. The wheels are the best part on this. Absolutely

And you get a lot of physical controls down here, which some people will like, but does feel the screen's a bit too slim to

MG has a far greater brand name obviously not necessarily a premium one but they have a a brand name at least that people know. So they have a connection to them. These have this funky little detail on the back here. The lights get a little dog on there. You can put writing on. Tells when you're driving or parking or stuff like that. It's got a kind of a duct tail
            • 27:30 - 28:00 Aston Martin shape there. Now appearance-wise, they're not my favorite. They are a bit droopy, a little bit melted, but the interiors are actually really quite interesting. Let me dive in back of this one. I do like these big quilted rear seats. Loads of space. Now, this one you can, this is the SUV, I think. You can flip that seat forwards and slide it under the dashboard and give this one loads more space, but that might be on a different version. We also got magnets
            • 28:00 - 28:30 here on the back. This is a new trend. You can see that. There you go. It's a new trend where you can magnetize different accessories on the back so you can hold uh tablets and things like that. Now the ice, the L6. This is the LS6, by the way. That's the LS6. S is SUV. L6 is standard sedan. This one looks This one looks a lot better, actually. From this rear angle here, it's pretty mean. Very low, very fat. Apparently, it's auto driving at the
            • 28:30 - 29:00 moment, but there you go. And this one comes with a much more interesting dashboard. Look at that. You got basically a 30in screen all the way across the front there. And I think that can slide down. They can drop down into the dashboard. Plus, you got another screen here as well. And I think this one also can slide. The seat can tuck into that space because there's no glove box down there. So, there's a load of space to slide the seat forward and give this passenger and the back here a lot more leg room. You've also got cameras here on the side, too, like on a Tesla.
            • 29:00 - 29:30 Yeah, the wheels though. The wheels are a bit naff, let's be honest. Now, they updated the L6. It now costs under 200,000 R&B to get one brand new. And they need that honestly because their sales have been nonapping in China. They broke 5,000 sales in March last month, which was an improvement on about 1,000 2,000 units in January and February, but not really where they need to be.
            • 29:30 - 30:00 The breaking point I would say for success is somewhere like 10,000 to 20,000. They need to at least get over 10,000. And interestingly, I'm just looking around, they haven't brought the L7. The L7 is actually the one the one good-looking car that they do, which is really sexy, but they haven't got they haven't got it. Instead, they brought us this furry pink car here with a fluffy wheels.

Rising was originally a like a model or not a line of Wrongway cars, like a sporty line.

They don't even report the sales on these anymore because these are not doing too well saleswise despite the fact that they look quite neat. I think this one's been updated. And that's kind of in this cyber style which is becoming quite popular here in China.

But yeah, so this is one of the trends you're going to see in the show is the the trend of floating cars, which the Chinese really seem to be pursuing quite a lot at the moment. Now, what seems to happen in the Chinese car industry is because the competition's so high, the brands, they really really fight things out, you know? So, they they come up with interesting ideas, some of which are smart and good ideas, some of which
            • 37:30 - 38:00 probably won't really last very long. Now, we can't get a look inside this one. Honestly, the G700 looks a lot like a Fang Chung Bao Bow 5. It looks tiny to me on the camera, but should look bigger on your screen hopefully. It's got satellite connectivity, so you won't get stuck in the desert. That one looks a lot more sleek than the Honda does, but I'm pretty sure they're based on the same platform. We've also got the HT which comes with the Gwing doors at the back

But it does take away some of the vibe, I would say, for making the show feel like it's it's alive and really a lot of buzz about the Chinese car industry. There's really been a lot of foreigners here. The car brands are have brought them in from all over the Middle East, Europe, Australia, and a couple of US outlets as well have been here at the auto show. So, the
            • 199:30 - 200:00 interest continues to grow outside of China. And yeah, I mean the the the trends for me I would say are the the off-road cars. So we've seen obviously Functioning Ba were one of the first alongside Great Wall and Jetour, but we've now seen obviously J coming out with their off-road concept. We saw who else did we see with an off-road car? Functioning Bao with the the Tai 3. Hongchi of course with the off-road car as well. So I think more brands are
            • 200:00 - 200:30 starting to kind of do like genuine off-roaders here in China. Autonomous driving seems to have been a little bit less pushed this year. Obviously, the government recently kind of clamped down on the wording of that, which might explain why it's been a little bit less uh highlighted, let's say. We've seen a lot of robots, not necessarily car related, unless they're working in the factories, but a lot of robots. And it does seem like we're getting a push towards hybrids again and SUVs. So, it's been less focus on MPVs at this show, much more focus on SUVs. They they're
            • 200:30 - 201:00 still, you know, the definitive the most chosen body style of cars in China as a plug-in hybrids. Obviously, Zika going into a plug-in hybrid with the 9X. Lincoln Co. still have a hybrid with the 900 rather than the Z10 and the Z20. BYD have a whole lot of hybrids in their system as well. And obviously, the big thing is the big push back from the international brands. So, a lot of concepts from Buick and Volkswagen. The Audi E5 came out as a production car.
            • 201:00 - 201:30 The Audi capital letters Audi. The Yeah. Who else brought other stuff? Nissan brought the N7 and a pickup truck. Pickup trucks also another trend by the way that's that's coming out. And then you have Honda, Toyota, they all brought interesting interesting new cars as well. So it does feel like the international brands are starting to to kind of come back and try and fight. We've seen a lot of battery tech upgrades in the last few months with 10C from BYD and 12C from from CL and a few
            • 201:30 - 202:00 brands are going to benefit from that. So the battery tech and the charging is a real trend. I think probably 12C as I said is enough. Maybe we don't need to go any further than that. Now it's going to be about making batteries safer. So we've had some regulations in here in China where the government have said you know no fires, no explosions. Easier said than done, but you know, they they that's what they're expecting now. They want no explosions from batteries in future, no risk to occupants. So, let's
