What Are Claude Skills?#

Claude Skills are reusable capability packages that teach Claude how to handle a specific kind of task with a consistent framework, vocabulary, and output format. Each skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md (instructions plus YAML metadata) and optional reference files.

Getting Started#

Each skill is a standalone task package. You can use individual skills or compose multiple skills together for complex workflows.

Skills are loaded automatically when Claude detects a matching task description. No manual configuration required beyond placing the skill folder in the correct directory.
